No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

The other thing that is odd though is that Ajay’s business specialises in suits and formal menswear. The womenswear is business stuff on their website as well. I’d have thought first port of call for an emergency seamstress would be a bridal shop that is experienced in altering children’s dresses.

there is an interesting line at the bottom of the mail article where he suggests that whoever made the mistake paid for his services which makes me assume Givenchy.

Yes, I thought that too. Couture dresses being altered by a menswear specialist.

Maybe the only person with a team big enough to take on the work? Admirable that he took in the challenge to save the day

The wedding date was announced in November 2017. Seems like plenty of notice to me.

They got married in May 2018!! I looked at venues & suppliers for my wedding & some were booked 18 months in advance!

But unless there's something you're not telling usGrin this was a Royal wedding. They have a lot more at their disposal.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:29

I didn't gasp at the state of them when watching the tv, that's for sure! 😆

I think both of them cried. As both of them were pretty stressed, and understandably so.

Agree

@CPL593H of course but it's still an issue to get that much sorted out even when you can pull all the strings.

Mine as well, the only reason mine would upset if if I had been.

I’m imagining Kate being upset/annoyed and saying something like ‘well she can’t wear that, it doesn’t fit!’ Etc etc and Charlotte then getting upset (thinking she can’t be a bridesmaid anymore?)

Pretty much the same gap as William and Kate.whose dress fitted perfectly.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:32

Givenchy were not going to not produce their collections for the shows in order to have the man hours to make the dress plus will have had other couture orders to fufill.

Izzy24 · 10/01/2023 21:33

And are we supposed to believe that screenshot of the alleged text exchange is real? 🙄

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:33

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz I don't believe W&Ks wedding was only planned for from the point of the engagement though do you?

The length of their engagement was about the same as for Charles and Diana and longer than that for Kate and William. I'm assuming you didn't have an entire staff to book venues for you, nor did you get married in a chapel owned by your husband's family?

JemimaTiggywinkles · 10/01/2023 21:34

Givenchy should have declined the work if they were unable to fulfil the order.

horrificbiology · 10/01/2023 21:36

@Rinoachicken That is what I was thinking as well when I read the texts. I thought why would a 3 year old be upset about the dress, they would just be happy to be a flower girl / bridesmaid. It's an adult thing for the dress to be "right".

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:38

@IcedPurple it's not just about the length of engagement though is it. They were together what a yr prior to the engagement? That is quick compared to W&K

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 21:38

Then they shouldn’t have taken on the order

Bunnycat101 · 10/01/2023 21:38

horrificbiology It might depend how ‘wrong’ the dresses were though. If they had a team of people working all hours to re-do the dresses that doesn’t sound like a bit of hemming. If it was falling off her for example that could have made her upset.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 21:40

Agree with @Bunnycat101

All six dresses had to be altered and took a team three days work, finishing at 10pm the night before the wedding. So they must have been bad

OP posts:
Rinoachicken · 10/01/2023 21:40

Yes, 6 people working day and night for 3/4 days, only finishing at 10pm the night before the wedding - sounds more like they had to take them all apart and re-do them

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:41

I'm assuming you didn't have an entire staff to book venues for you, nor did you get married in a chapel owned by your husband's family?

🙄 Of course not, why would you think the family chapel would be an issue? Logistics, security, dresses etc will all be a nightmare when time is short though.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 10/01/2023 21:41

Maybe the dresses were blagged from Givenchy as freebies - 'Make my couture frock. It's very expensive, surely you can do a few flower girl dresses for free, think of the advertising! We'll send over the measurements. What? Fittings?! For kids? Don't be ridiculous. They will be absolutely fine. It hardly matters as no-one will be looking at them, they will all be looking at me. Get them done.'

Meghan allegedly does love a freebie. 😁

Are you suggesting that planning for Kate and William's bridesmaid's dresses went back years? Were they measuring newborns for a wedding that was going to be held years later?

They had more than enough time to get perfect dresses for the little girls. Why that didn't happen remains something of a mystery, but it's surely not down to the length of their relationship.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:42

@Orangefir who said otherwise?

Of course Charlotte wasn't upset about the dress. 3 year old in pretty dress would have been overjoyed, not crying about the fitting not being perfect. IF Kate actually texted that I think it was a ridiculously unfair guilt trip for Meghan. But not convinced she did.

Time wasn't short and they had the very best resources available to them.

The way you're talking, you'd think they got married a week after the engagement announcement.
