No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

For all we know, Kate also cried but she's not going to speak about it. I don't think we can trust that Harry is a reliable narrator at this point.

I also think it's totally believable that both were in tears at some point. The story in the press may have been a half truth rather than a falsehood.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:20

The wedding was very short notice for a Royal one which would have had an impact.

I thought the press told us M made K cry?

WinnieFosterReads · 10/01/2023 21:21

The Kate/Meghan argument as 'remembered' by Harry (who wasn't there) and embellished by the Daily Mail - is neither here nor there.
Givenchy providing such a shoddy service is shocking. I had two fittings for my wedding dress (which wasn't couture) and two fittings for my bridesmaids and additional alterations for my flowergirls.
I wonder if the rush was connected to them jumping Eugenie in the order of weddings. But even so, Givenchy shouldn't have accepted the job if they couldn't send over seamstresses.

Really?

The wedding date was announced in November 2017. Seems like plenty of notice to me.

Still can't understand why the dresses were still being made only 4 days in advance.

I keep reading about this text exchange, but I haven't seen it posted anywhere. Where can I read it?

You can't. The Daily Mail faked something up that doesn't even match the extract from the book that they printed.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 21:23

If Harry has recreated those texts, he could have made Meghan look better in them!

I don’t remember seeing Claire Waight Keller mentioning the bridesmaid dresses in subsequent interviews but obviously M’s has been discussed in detail.

horrificbiology · 10/01/2023 21:23

I am quite surprised a 3 year old would be upset about the dress to be honest.

UWhatNow · 10/01/2023 21:16

Kate was right about tights too.

Maybe Givenchy just looked at the client name and didn’t recognise it as being anybody significant?

😁

He does have the texts detailed in the book? I’m looking at them now.

Quite

Lord how stressful. I can well understand how everyone got upset and snippy about it.

Agree. I'm shocked that someone would even screw this up given it would be so widely watched. I thought M's dress could've fitted better too

They got married in May 2018!! I looked at venues & suppliers for my wedding & some were booked 18 months in advance!

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 21:26

Wait - the words are exactly as detailed but he seems to say they’re being said in person.

Whatyagonnadokatie · 10/01/2023 21:26

I think both of them cried. As both of them were pretty stressed, and understandably so.

Shampern · 10/01/2023 21:26

I must admit that I cringed when I saw Charlotte's dress on the day especially when you think how pretty the bridesmaids looked at Aunty Pippa's wedding (and tights).
Charlotte's was too big and Kate seems to be a perfectionist, so unsurprisingly she mentioned it.

My 3 yr old could not tell what was a good fit or not, perhaps it's a Princess thing! 😆

CPL593H · 10/01/2023 21:27

Good on Ajay (who sounds lovely) but it does seem Givenchy mucked up unforgivably.

Bunnycat101 · 10/01/2023 21:27

The other thing that is odd though is that Ajay’s business specialises in suits and formal menswear. The womenswear is business stuff on their website as well. I’d have thought first port of call for an emergency seamstress would be a bridal shop that is experienced in altering children’s dresses.

there is an interesting line at the bottom of the mail article where he suggests that whoever made the mistake paid for his services which makes me assume Givenchy.

chezpopbang · 10/01/2023 21:27

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 10/01/2023 20:47

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

Some people just want to hate Meghan

Mine as well, the only reason mine would upset if if I had been.

pelargoniums · 10/01/2023 21:28

Does no one else think all the flower girls looked absolutely fine? I thought the oversize cut was part of the concept, who wants to shove little girls into uncomfortable formalwear? Like poor old George in his weird frock coat thing.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 21:28

I didn’t notice the bridesmaid dresses much either.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:29

@pelargoniums yes, I work in fashion but wasn't particularly looking at the flower girls except for "they are cute" etc.
