No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

Ajay sounds lovely and very diplomatic. Sounds like his team worked hard on the dresses. They still weren't quite right. They must have been dreadful before.

EmmaEmerald · 10/01/2023 20:58

I don't know anything about fashion houses, but if this is how they work with wealthy clients, I am surprised...to say the least.

The tailor worked day & night to fix them, I don't think they looked awful.

custardbear · 10/01/2023 20:59

The bought them from GivenShein and they took ages to come in the post

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 20:59

Seems to corroborate Kate’s take and legitimise her reaction

How do?

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:00

so?

WednesdaysPlaits · 10/01/2023 21:00

Was there not a monsoon in Windsor?

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:01

@Harrysfrostbittentodger that is far too logical for here! But yes I agree

Meghan looked gorgeous on the day but I thought she could have done with an extra fitting too.

the ugliest dress I have ever seen

And I'm just an observer being entertained - I am not pro RF nor against M&H

Staggering that Givenchy did such a shoddy job.

Perhaps they too found Meghan…difficult.

Fairplay to Ajay though he seems to have really pulled through, maybe he should have made them in the first place!

This for me. I didn't really notice an issue with the bridesmaid dresses if I'm honest but I'm not big on fashion but I remember being really puzzled on the day that Meghan's dress didn't fit. Mine didn't either as I lost a few lb the week before by accident after my dinal but I bought an off the peg dress and it still fit better rthan that. I remember feeling a bit concerned for her at the time (knowijg how stressed i was at my wedding about things being perfect) but hadn't thought about it til the book as it looks fine in the photos.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 21:02

I think M’s text was pretty snippy but I’m guessing they were strained before that. So much of it though, H really didn’t set M up for success. Like when she met W for the first time. She apparently hugged him and he recoiled and H says:

‘Maybe Willy expected Meg to curtsey? It would have been protocol when meeting a member of the Royal Family for the first time, but she didn't know and I didn't tell her.'

Not that I think she should have to curtsey, but imagine finding out afterward you were supposed to do that but instead you gave a hug. I’m starting to believe she really wasn’t prepared for much at all.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:03

the ugliest dress I have ever seen

you really must be quite sheltered then!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 10/01/2023 21:03

It doesn’t have to be either/ or, both women may or may not have cried and all were stressed. It was a minor issue and it seems that Kate apologised with flowers. Both women will have been stressed out.

The text picture on the article is a mock up of what might have been said and isn’t the actual texts. This is based on Harry’s recollections and he’s already proven that he has at best fake memories and at worst is tailoring the narrative to make him and Meghan look good.

Anyway, no one would even remember that this even happened if Harry and Meghan didn’t keep dredging up this shit over and over and over again!

I don't know anything about fashion houses, but if this is how they work with wealthy clients, I am surprised...to say the least.

So the process is

  • take the measurements
  • make the toile according to the measurements
  • first fitting
  • second fitting
  • (Third fitting not always needed)
  • Final fitting

Usually for brides there are so many fittings because lots of brides lose weight between appointments and with kids you have to have fittings because of the kids sprouting etc

So a prestigious couture house such as Givenchy making dresses straight from measurements emailed in. Delivered days before and no seamstress sent for alterations. It’s odd

Maybe the Couture house was pressured into taking it on, at short notice, in comparison to usual. Maybe there were last minute changes.

Honestly it's such a massive event, it would be easy to underestimate what was needed, and insist on changes that couldn't be achieved in the time for example.

AliceOlive · 10/01/2023 21:05

I am just nosy, so I hope someone objective will spill the beans.

BethDuttonsTwin · 10/01/2023 21:05

I don’t think Meghan’s dress was “ugly” but it didn’t fit and I honestly thought her whole look was lacklustre and rather drab. It just didn’t gel. However her night time dress and look was stunning so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Gilmorehill · 10/01/2023 21:06

SirVixofVixHall · 10/01/2023 20:53

Agree, crazy to have them done abroad with no fittings, children can have sudden growth spurts, measurements can be hard to get accurately. Mine were done by a seamstress and she made them really well. Very similar style too, a classic bridesmaid shape with short sleeves.

When I got married, I was teaching abroad so I had very limited opportunity to come home for fittings. Every dressmaker I approached in my home city refused to make me a dress for that reason. I eventually had to buy one in a sale and have it altered in the country where I was working. I can’t believe a name like Givenchy would compromise its name by producing essentially mail order dresses.

catwithflowers · 10/01/2023 21:07

the ugliest dress I have ever seen

Don't be daft. Actually I though she looked lovely. It's a shame it's all played out so badly but Meghan did look beautiful on her wedding day 😳

StarInTheHeavens · 10/01/2023 21:08

thebellagio · 10/01/2023 20:36

but How did givenchy of all fashion houses fuck it up? That’s inexcusable of them

This. Fittings, perhaps several would be a MUST for any couture work but even more so for a flippin' royal wedding that will showcase your tailoring.

Was the nighttime dress Stella McCartney? It was perfect, particularly for that warm summer evening.

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 10/01/2023 20:47

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

Absolutely this xx

Theheartmustpausetobreathe · 10/01/2023 21:09

Is anyone able to post a pic of Meg's dress with pointers about the fit?

Will we hear from Givenchy ??

AliceOlive · 10/01/2023 21:09

Does anyone else remember the wretched feeling of dress shoes as a child? I am 50 and I still do. Cannot image having been made to wear them with no tights or socks.
