No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

I'm astonished that this happened, it's the royal family and the dresses would be viewed by millions . I can't believe Meghan (like us ordinary folk) organised everything herself, she must have had help and would have had designers tripping over themselves to provide the dresses. Why did it all go so wrong?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/01/2023 21:44

Were they measuring newborns for a wedding that was going to be held years later?

"Now we've finished supper, I wonder if any of my darling friends could share their conception plans for the next decade as Wills and I are going to marry at some point in that time frame and our tailor needs to get a jump on bridesmaid dresses. Port anyone?"

Bunnycat101 · 10/01/2023 21:44

Oh this explains the choice of tailor. He’s got a sideline adjusting couture for awards and a-list events including previous work with Meghan.

I am quite surprised a 3 year old would be upset about the dress
Quite

I don't think we should be dragging a 3 year old into this and neither should have her uncle. As it happens I can imagine some 3 years placed in a flouncy dress might have a huff as 3 year olds are very entitled to do without it being any chastisement on their character.

WisteriaLodge · 10/01/2023 21:45

I suppose when one person is three weeks post partum an the other one is stressed up to the eyeballs with the wedding, plus family issues you can see the bridesmaid dresses not fitting 4 days before would push both of them to the brink...I don't see anything wrong either woman's messages to be honest, it must have been stressful.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 21:45

Great spot @Bunnycat101

Are you suggesting that planning for Kate and William's bridesmaid's dresses went back years? Were they measuring newborns for a wedding that was going to be held years later?

Yes of course that's what I'm suggesting 🙄

I simply made the point that H&M had a very quick journey to the alter & a quick journey to get Meghan into the Royal way of life eg a tour so soon for someone new to the Royals. I don't think it's unthinkable that all that pressure & planning resulted in things not running smoothly, you can disagree though.

horrificbiology · 10/01/2023 21:46

@bitoffrostbitethere She always has the children well fitted and pristine so I imagine she would not be happy if not perfect.

debbrianna · 10/01/2023 21:46

Why do people talk about Kate like she doesn't have nannies? I would have sympathy if she didn't have hired help.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:47

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz because their engagement was so soon after meeting...

Givenchy were not going to not produce their collections for the shows in order to have the man hours to make the dress plus will have had other couture orders to fufill.

If Strictly can knock up outfits in a few weeks I'm sure a massive couture company could too.

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

This 100%

“We had to work tooth and nail for four days, four of us working until 4am three nights in a row, to make them fit.”

I can only imagine the state the dresses arrived in for it to take so much work. Six dresses and none of them fit properly. Plus the bride - she is a beautiful lady but the dress did not fit correctly. Especially not to the tune of £120 thousand for a dress! It does give credence to Kate’s side.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 10/01/2023 21:49

My 4 yr old cried for 20mins last week because her new dress was to big and needed to be returned for a smaller size so i can well believe charlotte may have cried. She also once cried because her shoes didnt fit anymore

JemimaTiggywinkles · 10/01/2023 21:49

Logistics, security, dresses etc will all be a nightmare when time is short though.

Logistics would be done by palace staff, security by the police and security services. The long wait for dresses is because most places are simply constantly fulfilling back orders. It doesn’t actually take a year to make a dress. Weeks, perhaps, if you have enough money to push to the front of the queue with designers tripping over themselves to offer their services.

I planned my wedding in 12 weeks with little help. Everything, including the church / reception venue for a wedding with 120 guests. I bought a dress off the rack though. It fitted better than those bridesmaid dresses did!

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:49

@Newwardrobe I think you have misread my posts, I'm not defending Givenchy just explaining why there may have been an issue.

Flowersinthebasement · 10/01/2023 21:50

There's a lot to be said for a simple registry office gig and a dress from Coast. Grin

All I remember was Meghan looking stunning and a bunch of cute kids in little white dresses. All looked adorable.

maryofthevirginkind · 10/01/2023 20:50

I thought Meghan's dress didn't fit well anyway. Lack of planning and organisation for dresses not to be fitting properly so close to the day.

Me neither! It was a beautiful dress but my first comment was that it didn’t fit her

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:50

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created.

And the fact so much of the public want to buy into the narrative.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 21:51

They would have been better off hitting the high street and picking up dresses from monsoon

I agree. The problems are actually in the pathetic and manipulative grudge holding which came afterwards. Prostrate on the floor sobbing for goodness sake. And now to be actually publishing it in a book!? Having ruminated and seethed on it for several years. It really says a great deal about M & H, and those of us with similarly difficult family members are recognising this behaviour and I think that is partly why it provokes such strong reactions.

Well it's put me off buying anything from Givenchy 🤣

Ha ha ha! Me too, I'll be crossing them off my (non-existent) list...

The article doesn't vindicate Kate. On the contrary the text message exchange makes Kate look vindictive.

They aren't the real text messages, the Mail says they are "recreated" presumably from what Harry has said. Not exactly an impartial report.

Yes, as general impression, absolutely.

But once you start paying attention to the details, then the girl's dresses did look a bit odd.

I did think Meghan looked stunning and her dress was just right for her.

pocketvenuss · 10/01/2023 21:53

@AliceOlive For all we know, Kate also cried
