Prince Harry - sounds articulate and quite intelligent

There seems to be an accepted view that Prince Harry is very dim and unintelligent but he seems to be to be really quite articulate and have a wide vocabulary (antagonist, complicit.) I've thought this before when he made a speech at the Invictus games but assumed it was written for him and he was reading it but the answers to the questions in the interview couldn't all possibly have been learnt,

I’ve noticed he does have a few stock phrases and buzz words that he falls back on time and time again, rather than displaying any depth to his thinking. The interview was always going to be favourable towards him anyhow, seeing as he and Tom Bradby are friends (eg Brady attended H&M’s wedding).

He's well educated. That doesn't mean he's intelligent and capable of critical thought. It just means he can present himself reasonably well.

He's expensively educated, not well educated. He left Eton with 2 A levels, a D and a B.

asblindasabat · 08/01/2023 22:54

I didn’t understand the bit where he said that he never said the RF were racist. I’m almost certain he did say that? Or at the very least he implied it. Being concerned about the skin colour of the baby in that context would imply it is racist?

JustDrama · 08/01/2023 22:54

They only allow interviewers that are on their side.

😂 posh accent doesn't equal intelligence. He sounds like he's regurgitating life coaching/therapy jargon

This. Just therapy words.

BillLius · 08/01/2023 22:55

He sounds like Gordon Ramsey.

He doesn't sound very intelligent if you look past the accent and half decent vocabulary. He's not even unusually articulate for someone who went to private school. Think about the education and opportunities he's had...

yep and for all that private education he managed a B in art and a D in Geogrophy!

Eyerollcentral · 08/01/2023 22:56

@pigalow27 genuinely this was not my impression at all. He was defensive, arrogant and spoke entirely in rehearsed phrases. He was unable to describe the court cases he is pursuing, had to get Tom Bradby to spell out the specifics. It was a total car crash and I do not understand how any person watching that couldn’t come away feeling dreadfully sorry for this very angry and quite ill man. The worst part was the dead eyed and monotonous exhortations that he was blissfully happy

Leafytrees · 08/01/2023 22:56

pigalow27 · 08/01/2023 22:51

You should look at examples of the vocabulary used by most people on social media and the difficulties school students have accessing the necessary reading material at GCSE because of paucity of vocabulary and comprehension - see Alex Quigley's book 'Closing the Vocabulary Gap' and how this is a huge barrier in education.

But he's not most people on social media. Hundreds of thousands of pounds have been spent on his education. How many barriers to education do you think he's faced?

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 22:57

@IcedPurple you are confusing well educated with well qualified.

AliceOlive · 08/01/2023 22:57

I didn’t watch yet, and have no opinion on Harry’s vocabulary but those examples are pretty common words. 4th/5th grade in US. Isn’t Erin one of the top schools in the world? I’d sure hope he’s articulate.

AliceOlive · 08/01/2023 22:57

Eton.

BunnyFantastic · 08/01/2023 22:59

90 minutes of waffle. He certainly talked a lot, but articulate and Intelligent? No.

pigalow27 · 08/01/2023 22:59

I don't think he's some kind of intellectual giant or anything but I also don't believe he is below average intelligence. He probably was more concerned with drinking and having a good time in 6th form so a D in Geography isn't utterly hopeless. Didn't Clarkson get a D and a U or something at A level and he's clearly not below average intelligence.

I watched some of it. Thought he sounded ok, much better than W&K do when speaking.

IceStationHorse · 08/01/2023 23:00

charabang · 08/01/2023 22:43

He doesn't strike me as particularly articulate. I think he has a well rehearsed narrative that he is happy to spout. When challenged by Bradbury he was quick to bring the conversation back to that narrative.

Exactly - every time !

Crosswithlifeatm · 08/01/2023 23:00

He's not perfect.
But his Dad wanted to be Camilla's tampon so at least he's more mature.
We are also forgetting Charles slating if his parent on their parenting. We can see that as he'd had no role model as to how to parent when Diana died.
And this is where the rot began, the way the Royal Family behaved when she died.

Housewife2010 · 08/01/2023 23:01

pigalow27 · 08/01/2023 22:48

Diana was considered unintelligent too but every letter of hers that I've seen reproduced in the media was always perfectly spelt and punctuated. Looks to me like she'd be achieving at least a grade 7 or 8 at GCSE now!

😆😆 There's more to a top grade in English Language GCSE than good spelling and a mistake-free letter.

IcedPurple · 08/01/2023 23:01

RosesAndHellebores · 08/01/2023 22:57

@IcedPurple you are confusing well educated with well qualified.

Not really. He has a pretty basic academic education, achieving only 2 A levels.

If someone went to your local comp rather than Eton and left with only a B in Art and a D in Geography, would you describe them as 'well educated'?

ArseInTheDogBowl · 08/01/2023 23:01

Would a 'quite intelligent' man think it was a good idea to go into such detail about his time in the army, provoking a response from the Taliban?

The man is a fool, I've seen 15 year olds with a greater ability to consider the consequences of their actions.

Adultchildofelderlyparents · 08/01/2023 23:03

He didn't sound articulate and intelligent to me. He sounded well-rehearsed and was answering pre-submitted questions.
I don't think he is "dim". He's certainly lacking in emotional intelligence, and his narcissism is astonishing.

On that measure, Boris might be judged a fool but he is definitely highly intelligent. He did Greats at Oxford and was a King's scholar at Eton.

Wasn't there a bit of a scandal his A Level year with his art teacher being accused of doing his coursework for him or something? I could be remembering that wrong but I'm sure something happened to put his result under question.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 08/01/2023 23:04

@pigalow27 you have a different measure of intelligence than me, quite clearly.

ginghamstarfish · 08/01/2023 23:05

I wouldn't waste my time watching this but clearly whatever he says has been well rehearsed (and written by his wife?), with the appropriate questions being handed to the 'interviewer'.
