Prince Harry - sounds articulate and quite intelligent

pigalow27 · 08/01/2023 22:39

There seems to be an accepted view that Prince Harry is very dim and unintelligent but he seems to be to be really quite articulate and have a wide vocabulary (antagonist, complicit.) I've thought this before when he made a speech at the Invictus games but assumed it was written for him and he was reading it but the answers to the questions in the interview couldn't all possibly have been learnt,

I'm not a fan but thought he came across well enough. He stated his life's work was to bring down the tabloid press. I actually wish he could / would. It's thoroughly corrupt and irresponsible.

That’s his life’s work? Well that’s not going to happen is it? How on earth does he think he can destroy tabloids? I hate the tabloid press too but it’s far too big and powerful for Harry to take down. The Queen’s dresser scared him with a look and his own brother terrified him with a yell. Good luck with that Harry.

BJ didn’t get a First and is very resentful that his younger brother did.

@pigalow27 Boris Johnson might have an act that he is a buffoon, but I think he has a first from Oxford, which they don’t give out in a lucky bag. Most mere mortals do at least three a levels. Harold only did two and didn’t excel in either despite having access to the most expensive, intensive education in the world. I think he comes across as quite thick. That’s why he swallows everything anything says to him with authority. Also in my experience intelligent people don’t respond with the naked defensiveness that Harry did when even lightly pressed. No serious person could find this man intelligent from this interview. The fact that you equate intelligence with ‘big words’ and a good vocabulary says it all.

A marker of intelligence is to listen to what the others say and to see that view point, acknowledge, but then clearly and precisely state your argument for not agreeing.

he is just like a lot of his family.

Genevieva · 08/01/2023 23:30

It is perfectly possible for delusional people with serious mental illnesses to come across as articulate and of sound mind. His dulcet tones and Received Pronunciation can help achieve this illusion.

And even more bitter that David Cameron got a first and was described as having one of the best minds of his generation by Anthony Crosland. Their rivalry dates back to their Eton and Oxford days.

It was awful. I only watched 10 mins and then turned off. It wasn’t an interview with a journalist, it was a platform to promote his book. No challenge, no awkward questions and no depth…

‘No challenge, no awkward questions and no depth…’ - perhaps if you’d watched the whole thing you be in a position to gauge whether that was the case 😂

The tabloid press refe, dot is. If we didn’t stand for it, it wouldn’t be published.

hisnfather is right, it is a suicide mission. I couldn’t tell you the last time I picked up a tabloid newspaper. To be honest I used to look at all the pap shots…but they don’t do that so much anymore.

He has a posh accent and a way with words.

This. He's had the best possible level of education and a ton of media training so, of course, he's eloquent but that's not the same as intelligent.

His private tutor (when asked if Harry is bright) said it wasn't appropriate to criticise someone he taught as a child.

The head of the school actually spoke to Diana as he felt Harry had learning difficulties. I haven’t watched this (and won’t be) so can’t make any judgements but I do know that I’m so very bored of his tales of woe which have been told and re-told every which way.

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:33

He comes across as more intelligent than Andrew. Comp-are Andrew's interview with Harry's. Harry looks like a fucking genius in comparison.

Samcro · 08/01/2023 23:34

People on mn like to other him, call him dim/thick and so on,, I have even seen posters saying he has lds
says a lot about the posters

SuperHandss · 08/01/2023 23:34

The private education should at least provide that.

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:34

@BellePeppa I believed the learning difficulties you refer to are dyslexia.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 08/01/2023 23:34

Ok but I don’t and have never read the tabloid press, I read the FT for work (get me) and the Guardian (at home… though its staff are very nepo baby).

As a leftie… he is so problematic! He has no mission, no qualifications, he hasn’t spoken out now against any racism in the royal family (didn’t they get an award for that?) and he hasn’t spoken out against Andrew.

His comments about why he used racial slurs and dressed as Hitler are unbelievable in the extreme. Here is a 40 year old man who takes no responsibility (he didn’t even buy furniture for Nott Cott, Meghan did on her credit card). He is unreliable and super problematic, and what he said again now was waffle.

Tom Bradby tried and he looked, at times, flummoxed. I don’t don’t think he could quite believe the things Harry was saying.

I didn’t know that about Cameron. What a tragedy that he didn’t use his first-class mind rather better.

I totally agree. I felt he came across well.

The negativity shown for him on this thread is disgraceful.

stormywaves · 08/01/2023 23:35

No doubt Harry has had an expensive education but maybe is not academically gifted. I just feels he lacks emotional intelligence and empathy (bit like his grandfather!) and can be easily led in order to gain the popularity he wants and needs.

He means well (Invictus games is one example) but needs a wider outlook on the world.

Something should be done about tabloid press, without a doubt but he has to realise the RF are one of its many victims.

I don’t think he has a diagnosis. His cousin does and is active in charities it’s it. Never heard Harry did and if he does he shouldn’t have been at Eton.

From what I saw he didn’t answer questions though, he skirted them, put it back to the interviewer to explain complex issues to the viewer and parroted phrases over and over. He was slippery and evasive and as previous posters have said every question had been vetted beforehand. Yet he STILL responded with disdain and clear anger to an interviewer described as a friend of some years. It’s clear that Tom Bradby was embarrassed by his responses at time and was handling him like a live brigade. I thought the interview was a shocking indictment of the money wasted on his education and his pitiful mental state.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 08/01/2023 23:36

This is really interesting though, what he said said about Susan Hussey:

“Meghan and I love Susan Hussey. She [Meghan] thinks she’s great. And I also know that what she meant . . . she never meant any harm.”

He wasn’t there and he’s potentially saying that a black woman, Ngozi Fulani, is wrong in feeling that it was racist. I don’t know either way but I’d certainly not be announcing to millions that the person impacted is wrong. It’s a bit as though only they can be wronged.

Soproudoflionesses · 08/01/2023 23:37

WerkinMum · 08/01/2023 22:46

Meghan's words are coming out of his mouth.

I thought this too

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:37

@AuroraCake I did not say he had dyslexia. But I believe the question was raised early on if he could have dyslexia or not.
Why would having dyslexia mean you can not be at Eton? some simple adjustments mean many children with dyslexia are high achieving.

SemperIdem · 08/01/2023 23:38

Comparing Johnson and Harry, as has been done on this thread, is interesting.

On the one hand you have a man who has cultivated an approachable, buffoon like persona to disguise an extremely intelligent, calculating personality. Which other PM in history has been commonly known by their first name? Not even the ever personable Tony Blair achieved that.

On the other you have a distinctly average man who has tried to cultivate the image of being very intelligent to disguise the fact he is not.

Both come from incredible privilege but thereafter their similarities end.
