Daily Mail thinks it has evidence. Let's discuss.

Was the great royal burgundy parade a cheeky swipe at Meghan?

I think it was not at all a coincidence and was the closest they will ever come to an 'up yours'.

I quite enjoyed it tbh.

tatalan · 21/12/2022 12:42

For some background information, here's what Meghan said:

“To my understanding, you could never wear the same color as Her Majesty, if there’s a group event, but then you also shouldn’t be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family.”

“So I was like, ‘Well, what’s a color that they’ll probably never wear?’ Camel, beige, white. So I wore a lot of muted tones, but it was also so I could just blend in. I’m not trying to stand out here. There was no version of me joining this family and me not doing everything I could to fit in. I don’t want to embarrass the family.”

As soon as I saw the photos I thought it was a deliberate and orchestrated response to a number of the accusations. Definitely an “up yours”

I don’t understand?

I didn't view it as an accusation to be honest, based on Meghan's own limited understanding she was wasn't wearing a lot of colours because she didn't want to stand out.

100% it was a Meghan riposte! I suspect even Camilla’s brown topaz brooch was chosen to join in – it photographs burgundy.

What are you confused about?

I don’t understand?

Meghan said you couldn't wear the same colour as a senior royal when on engagements. The talk is at the concert they all wore the same colour to prove her wrong.

35965a · 21/12/2022 12:45

The doc only came out that day though, didn’t it? I would think they’d all have their clothes picked out in advance.

Beatrice, Eugenie and Camilla didn't.

Also, Meghan's words were not definitive, she said what she understood the rules to be.

“To my understanding, you could never wear the same color as Her Majesty, if there’s a group event, but then you also shouldn’t be wearing the same color as one of the other more senior members of the family.”

If this was deliberate, then it is brilliant, good on 'em!

And what's this bollocks - I don’t want to embarrass the family. Yeah, OK Meghan.

rosyroses · 21/12/2022 12:47

I don't think so as the Wales often wear clothes that match or tone in with one another. Not always but I had noted before that eg they've all worn a shade of blue

Alarae · 21/12/2022 12:48

Whether it was or not, I did find Meghan's comment a bit strange as I'm certain she has worn colour while working within the Royal Family.

Considering M&H have made quite a lot of public accusations which the RF are unlikely to comment on I find it hilariously petty if the colour scheme was coordinated as a result.

Do I think they actually did it because of the documentary? Of course not, I imagine their clothing is all sourced a long time in advance. I'm also pretty sure they've coordinated at other events like christenings or important milestones (I think there was one where red, white and blue seemed to be the theme?).

All this coverage is all a bit of a nothingburger.

Liorae · 21/12/2022 12:48

Well, if the Daily Mail says it then it must be true. I'm sure Piers Morgan told them so.

Madamecastafiore · 21/12/2022 12:48

There are photographs showing her wearing bright colours at royal engagements.

The press often accused her of overshadowing the royals so this was her attempt to be less visible I guess.

She wore colour at her engagements after the Megxit announcement – she explains in the documentary that she changed her style tone since she was leaving anyway, so why not “dress like a rainbow”.

Wisteriaroundthedoor · 21/12/2022 12:52

It was clearly a way to prove a lie, there is no way they all decided to dress the exact same by coincidence

when I saw the images of them I did think god that’s weird they are all dressed the same and sort of looked at the pics puzzled.

I think as no one really picked up immediately what it was , someone in the palace likely pointed it out. As now everyone is like. Oh of course, that’s what it is.

good for them, it’s a classy and humorous way to do it.

N0tfinished · 21/12/2022 12:52

I thought it was just semi-mourning. Christmassy but muted. Didn't occur that it was a statement.

Although, I wonder were they given a preview of the documentary? Wouldn't be surprised if they were.

PeekAtYou · 21/12/2022 12:53

Catherine and Charlotte often colour coordinate so Charlotte should be removed from the discussion.

Novella4 · 21/12/2022 12:54

It was gauche and badly advised so it definitely was an attempt at PR

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/12/2022 12:55

They did not need a preview of the doc though. it landed at 8 am. By 10 am I like to imagine a flurry of phone calls going around and an emergency order of coats from Zara.

Novella4 · 21/12/2022 12:55

So Camilla and Sophie and Andrew's daughter aren't in the gang ?
Interesting ...

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/12/2022 12:56

(Coats and ties in fact as there were a few pale burgeundy ties in evidence as well)

And Camilla and Sophie matched in white. Lovely. (Although Sophie always looks lovely IMO. i am the same sort of age and wish I had her style).

SnowAndIceLobelia · 21/12/2022 12:57

Oh no I'm not- she's 9 years older than me. Looks fabulous on it.
