Daily Mail thinks it has evidence. Let's discuss.

Was the great royal burgundy parade a cheeky swipe at Meghan?

If MM didn't understand the protocol that's entirely on Harry's shoulders. That was his job to make sure she knew what to do.

lemmein · 23/12/2022 10:41

I'm all for abolishing the monarchy and love nothing more than criticising the over-privileged, hypocritical parasites, but even I can't on this one. Burgundy is a Christmas/winter colour - I highly doubt it was done on purpose; though I suspect they were pretty pleased with themselves that it would look that way to MM.

PicturesOfDogs · 23/12/2022 11:01

The thing is, there are examples of people wearing the same colour as the queen, pre this ‘observation’ from Meghan, so it isn’t true.

But all that’s going to happen now is forever more when people do wear the same, it’ll be brought up as an example of them doing it to be ‘petty’. Even though they’ve done it before.

At best MM being misinformed, at worst said as a way for her to remain relevant and be mentioned anytime it happens going forward.

I agree.
Also M's mental health.
Harry had enough experience and knew who the go to people were - wasn't he involved in mental health charities.

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 13:21

@PicturesOfDogs She said SHE could not wear the same colour.

@PicturesOfDogs She said SHE could not wear the same colour.

No she didn’t.

PicturesOfDogs · 23/12/2022 13:32

To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there's a group event, but then you also shouldn't be wearing the same colour as one of the other, more senior members of the family

This is what she said.

To her understanding
She got it wrong. There are photos of people in the same colour as the queen.
I’m not saying it was deliberate, but she just got it wrong.

PicturesOfDogs · 23/12/2022 13:33

And now, forever more when royals wear the same colour, there will be those who will think it’s a dig at Meghan.

Even though photos prove thats never been a thing.

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 13:57

It obviously was a dig.

Coxspurplepippin · 23/12/2022 13:58

It obviously wasn't a dig.

See, I've got how this works.

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 14:04

It was obvioously total coincidence that 4 women/girls wore burgundy coats and various men wore burgundy ties and that the press said the reasons why.
Just like it was coincidence they wore green to Philips funeral.

ancientgran · 23/12/2022 14:10

SenecaFallsRedux · 22/12/2022 21:01

But also it shows that there are lots of kinds of cutesy and how was she to know which was the right kind.

Especially true for Americans. Our curtseying opportunities are few and far between.

I'm in England and at 69 I'm still waiting for a curtseying opportunity. I fear if it doesn't hurry up I won't be able to do it.

Whether it was a coincidence or not, who knows.

What we do know is that they have coordinated before. They have worn the same colour as the queen before. We know Meghan was mistaken in what she said.

However, it would be a shame if they were never allowed to coordinate again (which as you’ve said, they’ve done before) without it being considered a slight because of Meghans misunderstanding.

Probably. I think William and Tindall coordinated with their wives, Charlotte coordinated with her mother. It's amazing what you can get when you add 2 and 2 together although 4 is normally the right answer.

Coxspurplepippin · 23/12/2022 14:22

I thought everyone wore black to Prince Phillip's funeral. Green to his memorial service perhaps? Were they having a go at Meghan then. Or maybe just honouring Prince Philip's memory?

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 14:28

So you accept they coordinated for a reason before?
You are naive if you think this was not coordination to wear burgundy.

PicturesOfDogs · 23/12/2022 14:35

Of course I accept it. There’s photographic evidence.
As there is photographic evidence of people wearing the same colour as the queen.
They’ve done it before, and now they’ve done it again.

So if they’ve done it before, what’s the proof that this time it’s about Meghan?

If they’d never done it before, you’d have a point. But they have.

bakalava · 23/12/2022 15:03

You could argue the same thing from the other side about Meghan wearing jeans with holes and half buttoned shirts. She is having some fun there communicating to the royals that she does not care for their dress codes. It may be that they orchestrated this response as a Christmas reply to her behaviour. Sounds like a fun game.

Coxspurplepippin · 23/12/2022 15:15

antelopevalley · 23/12/2022 14:28

You are naive if you think this was not coordination to wear burgundy.

They've certainly worn the same colours before at numerous events - Ascot, trooping the colour etc. And there've been times at Ascot and Trooping the colour when they haven't worn the same colour.

So I guess it just comes down to 'people wearing what they want, when they want.' If the whole family had worn the same colour coat you may have had a point, but they didn't. So, as usual, the press have put the bait on the hook, and off everyone goes.

Coxspurplepippin · 23/12/2022 15:16

3 women and one small child is not coordination when several dozen were wearing completely different colours.

bakalava · 23/12/2022 15:23

After it finished, I wonder if they stood in a line in their burgundy outfits and did a synchronized mooning to use as a Christmas card picture to send to California?😂

bakalava · 23/12/2022 15:29

Isn't that a "cheeky swipe"?

'Let's all wear matching coats'

Oh such japes!

What thrilling company they must all be.

Camilla - white
Catherine - burgundy
Charlotte - burgundy
Sophie - white
Beatrice- white and grey
Eugenie- a checked fugly in brown
Zara - burgundy
Princess michael - WTAF??? 🙈 In black
Gabrielle - red
Sophie Winkelman - grey
Brigitte Gloucester - green

Non royals
Carole Middleton - black
Pippa- burgundy

If we take that the Wales's just co ordinated together as they usually do, it's 2 royals in burgundy and a sister in a sea of other colours

I wish they'd all gone one colour. I like a good message sent.

meinteresamucho · 23/12/2022 16:00

Does anyone know what royal protocol actually says? Can you access it anywhere? Meghan claimed a lot of protocol she was criticised for breaking in the press had just been made up (or maybe Harry said that but I actually trust the press more than them at the moment).
