Harry and Meghan's show is number 1 on Netflix in the UK and US. Did you watch it people of Mumsnet?

Jesus @tatala are you on the production crew? Your gushiness is unreal /OTT/not very British - are you American by any chance? 😂😂😂

No! I just had the day off so I'm sat on this thread. Not American, kind of British though.

What is "kind of British"?

Dual citizenship kind, wasn't raised in the UK 🙂

The reason I ask of course is because there has been so much talk of the aloofness of Brits v the casual cool Californians so was wondering if your background influenced your thoughts on it all.

I read the car thing as her sneaking across London to be after the relationship broke and so she was being hunted by the paparazzi. Maybe I understood incorrectly or it was poor editing.

Re. How she did the curtesy, I agree it probably wasn’t like that. But maybe it was haha. I would have no idea how to curtesy so might do something similar.

The Harry look during her curtesy was weird but going to give benefit of doubt there that he might have just seen something in the background and looked up and it wasn’t as meaningful as expression as everyone thinks.

Your right it’s all complete guesswork. Who knows anything about this, but then they have invited us to view their reality - 6 hours of it. And I don’t think I have ever watched 6 whole hours of something without dissecting it to some degree in my mind.

Re. Thinking the worse - You can tell I like thrillers, scandi noir dramas etc. 🤣 I do have a bias towards uncovering some underlying plot twist when it’s likely all much more simple than that.

But still it’s fascinating. Once I settled into the Americanness of Meghan I actually found her quite believable. And it was Harry I thought a bit odd/ off. Which surprised me tbh.

Will be interesting to see final episodes.

Sorry, on second thought I think I'm wrong about the sneaking across London part. I thought it was beforehand but I'm down with a virus so probably a bit muddled! Would probably still stand though as they'd be looking out for her and watching any royal drivers.

Haha, I LOVE a good thriller! It's just with this, the amount of hate is quite difficult to see. If you don't like them, scroll past. There's really no need for it, it doesn't affect anyone but them and they're family.

alasangne · 09/12/2022 20:13

I'm not sure it needed 6 episodes

That's a fair question. My thoughts are more influenced by being a H&M stan than anything else 😄

I wondered about that but episode 3 ends up right before the wedding (these 3 episodes could have been compressed into two easily). My guess is that episodes four to six follows what happened from the wedding to present day.

Looking forward to it less and less😬

(Of course i'll watch it)

Sorry but what is a "stan" ?

@tatala

Thanks Op. If you can remember where you have seen this before I would love to know because maybe someone else has managed to process and articulate it better and would be interesting to see others thoughts on that.

Hey, definitely nothing as put together as an article. Thoughts shared within DMs on H&M private groups. I'll updated the thread and tag you if I can get things together.

I started watching it and found it quite dull. It came across as very contrived and self-absorbed.

I hope so! That’s when the wheels really came off, so those episodes are likely to be much more juicy. I get annoyed that they won’t stay away from the press they hate so much, but still watch and read about them at every opportunity - clearly I’m a hypocrite too.

Pidgeonslipshit · 09/12/2022 20:32

Nope ..I never agreed with Jeremy Kyle show and this is just the posher version!

No, didn't watch.
6 episodes of any couple, Royal or not, waffling on about themselves seems self-indulgent.
I'm sure if there's anything new and interesting it will be reported somewhere.

red4321 · 09/12/2022 20:40

The most surprising thing for me was that M went to Botswana for a week with H when they'd met twice? One of which was an hour's drinks and the other dinner. I can't imagine doing that with a virtual stranger.

LolaSmiles · 09/12/2022 20:42

I wasn't going to bother because I don't like shows about the royal family and find the two of them to spend as much time courting the media as they do whining about wanting privacy.

Their trailer has also been found to have used footage and photographs totally out of context and from totally different events.

But a friend watched it and said she found it interesting from an outsider/insider perspective, so I might try it.

I still find it hard to believe Meghan was totally clueless about what was involved. She never struck me as a silly woman, quite the opposite actually, so I can't help wonder if she's playing it up for the press or whether Harry grossly downplayed/misled her about royal life.

CathyorClaire · 09/12/2022 20:45

I tried but sugar overload sent me to sleep 3/4 of the way through Episode 1.

Being a trouper I'll wade through the drowsiness and hope the touted 'poison' content of next week's offering will ward off any coma.

Choccobread · 09/12/2022 20:51

I watced the first two episodes and to my surprise i found them both mostly likeable and genuine..
But what struck me were the inconsistencies that come accross as fabrication. And the bow/curtsy was so cringe. And Harry looked super uncomfortable with that.

By inconsistencies i mean moaning about being hounded by the paparazzi, yet no footage of any paparazzi. Just a mention in the car about someone following on a motorbike, but we couldnt see anything.

And the constant self-documentation they've done throughout raises a huge question mark for me. Who does that?! Someone who plans to publish it at some point comes to mind.. Even the phone call to a friend before engagement. Very very premeditated..

liarliarshortsonfire · 09/12/2022 20:52

I watched the 1st episode, then half way through the second I gave up. Imo it's a bit shit, I think the only reason people are watching it is because they think they are going to dish the dirt on the RF, other than that it's a pair of entitled, love struck teenagers with little to no sense of reality. I started watching Wednesday instead, which is far more entertaining

Abraxan · 09/12/2022 20:54

Not watched it and unlikely to.

Not because of it being H & M. I'm very much unaffected by them, or any of the royal family either tbh. I don't dislike them nor do I like them particularly (I don't know them.)

It's just not the type of thing I'd watch, regardless of who it is.

Not only was MM constantly documenting herself for The Tig beforehand ,but they do say a friends suggested it. Most likely they were asked, did you see what is being said about you? you better keep a record.

CathyorClaire · 09/12/2022 21:00

no footage of any paparazzi

They were tpp busy stalking Harry Potter and Katie Price 😉
