Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

I don't really follow them, but an organisation that is 2 years old is hardly demonstrating 'a lifelong commitment'. Seems more like they got an award for putting their name to something rather than putting in hard graft. And there is nothing wrong with using your platform, just think the lifelong comment is a bit of a reach.

FleeUpFreeTime · 12/10/2022 07:31

The organisation that has invited them to speak isn’t go to slag them off!

Harry needs a hug he never looks happy

elessar · 12/10/2022 07:39

Hard to understand what they've done to warrant this award really. Yes they've dabbled in all these causes, and done a few speeches and appearances - but what, really meaningful contribution or change have they made in any of these areas?

In fact the very broad nature of the topics they're being celebrated for say it all - as another poster says, in just two years, how can they have shown a lifelong commitment or made any real difference - particularly in such a broad range of topics

Maltester71 · 12/10/2022 07:41

Harry is so unhappy isn’t he? He has emotional well-being dogs.

Absolutely this. Essentially they're trying to break into being advocates for this that and the other without any foundations, hard work or qualification / credibility to their clap trap. My guess is that this is another attempt to try to elevate them when underneath is just sand and murk. If there are to be awards given out and credibly given to these types of award they need to recognise much more credible and decent human rights activists, not just 'sleb searching for a different platform to spout bandwagon stuff that others have been advocating for years, with integrity not just hot air and fashionable for their needs

Doing pro Meghan and Harry threads are so bizarre. If they are doing so well you do not need to make this effort to show them in a positive light.

H&M are being honoured alongside President Zelensky!

J0y · 12/10/2022 08:22

Harry doesn't need to be in the uk to be happy but he does need peace. He can never get that while there are more books and docuseries coming out.
Perhaps after the fallout from the memoir and the docuseries have died down, he can "start from scratch" and find peace with The RF.

Until then it must be like waiting for the exhaled breath. On both sides.

If he and meghan split up she'll spill a whole lot more but people will know her truth is seen through her own lens.

Foronenightonly01 · 12/10/2022 08:23

This life out of public view & the limelight they said they wanted?….yeah, thought not.

PeekAtYou · 12/10/2022 08:32

The media are still pushing the idea that the Sussexes still want half in half out. After the events like the Jubilee and funeral I would have thought that they were relieved to return to the US. Plus wasn't there some rumours that they were house hunting? That sounds like they plan to remain overseas.

The award is weird- surely there are more worthy people who have devoted more years but I guess celebrity wins sometimes.

i think its more that there are 2 sides. they are not bad people and Meghan is endlessly bullied on mn. whether you like her or not, she has done nothing to warrant the countless threads ripping her apart on mn, so why not have a thread that is more supportive,

Nishky32 · 12/10/2022 08:36

I do sort of understand that point, but also - is she aware of anything that goes on in Mumsnet- does any of it affect her in any way.

wouldn’t using time and energy to support causes be more useful

the threads on this board often seem to be more about point scoring than anything else and hyperbole- nuggets of information are actually rare

Apologies. I meant posts on the threads on this board- I am not saying this thread is point scoring at all.

Decorativefire · 12/10/2022 08:50

Not much of a contribution but love the new photo - they're a very photogenic couple. Also I don't think Harry looks unhappy at all but TBH I don't hang out with them much ;)

Maybe you should breath, because H&M have been together for 6.5 years now. Don't see them spitting up anytime soon. The 3yrs divorce everyone was hoping for has long passed.

As for the book, Harry gets slagged off all the time, so I think a book is needed to set the record straight, and stay in history books as a reference. Why is everyone else doing a write up about him without corrections.

Will they always write rubbish about him? Very likely. As far as I'm concerned, he can keep on releasing books to set the record straight as long as lies and misinformation goes on about him.

I just can’t be so invested in people that way. I do not really know if they are happy or not. How can someone put their hands up for someone they do not know. Stating that they will not get divorced for instance. Truly bizarre but if that makes you happy is a free country. ( unless you’re right wing so them your options are evil and immoral 🙄)

Redfrangipani · 12/10/2022 09:01

They are in great company. Past winners, Desmond Tutu, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, George Clooney, Stacey Abrams, Dr Anthony Fauci, Amanda Gorman, Colin Kaepernick, and more (who, admittedly, I had to look up as I’m not American).

waffless · 12/10/2022 09:02

Btw is they are really honour next to Zelensky. What a travesty. How are they comparable? Honestly disgusting is this is true.

waffless · 12/10/2022 09:04

Redfrangipani

so awards for Democrats that tells me all is there to know. Apart from Zelensky of course.

notanotheroneagain · 12/10/2022 09:08

The awards themselves are not just about Archewell, I don't think.

On their statement, RFJHR points out the continued work of H&M. I think it covers what they have done over the years, culminating to the bigger projects, as their platform grows.

Starts little and goes up.
For Harry, he was already doing charity in Lesotho as a teen, 10yrs service in the Army. His Africa Parks, Big game rescue, Invictus, Sentebale etc.
For Meghan, it started with little things like some protest she was pictured at from 11, prom dress charity, soup kitchen volunteering, UN work around water in Africa and sanitary towels for girls in India etc.

They both also had good ideas to raise funds while with RF. The clothes capsule, cookbook, elephants narration etc.

After that it was the work they did with Archewell, starting with meal deliveries, handing out nappies to several donations and fundraising. Some were small and restricted by covid ofcourse. Some were topics of the day (vaccines etc.), but others will always keep on rumbling (cyberbullying, blm, etc.)

I think the award is for using their platform to reach out and spread the HR issues where they can. It's mucking in on a global scale.

Maybe they can discuss US mansions together.

Self-congratulatory awards given to each other in order to funnel funds into own pockets via the platform of altruism. Activity as old as the hills and there's not a thing we can do about it.

notanotheroneagain · 12/10/2022 09:22

'self congratulatory awards'. Be sure to tell Zelensky and former winners that.

You sound like a hoot ! 😂

He certainly looked a lot happier back when he was ‘trapped’.

They’re floundering in the US; Netflix needs drama, the book has been paused because they know they’ll cut themselves off from the RF for life if they publish it complete with barbs, but it will be a dud book without them.

Hardly thriving, are they?
