Harry and Meghan doing alright in the US, continuing their universal service

Have heard a few comments from panellists and commenters thinking that Harry somehow wants to come back to the UK?

I highly doubt this. I think they are doing more than ok in the US.

A pity a positive thread has been deleted regarding the podcasts, maybe the positive conversation can continue here?

In particularly I wanted to highlight the announcement that they will be recipients for the Robert J Kennedy Human Rights award.

“When The Duke and Duchess accepted our award laureate invitation back in March, we were thrilled. The couple has always stood out for their willingness to speak up and change the narrative on racial justice and mental health around the world,” Kerry Kennedy, president of Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, and Robert F. Kennedy's daughter, said in a statement shared today. “They embody the type of moral courage that my father once called the ‘one essential, vital quality for those who seek to change a world that yields most painfully to change.’”

That’s not what I said, why don’t you read the article I linked to, it explains it clearly.

It's looking hopeful isn't it. No recent RF attacks, no PA comments in podcasts, no recent longwinded interviews sticking the boot in, H seems to shelved his latest moanathon Tell All.

Maybe, maybe the penny has finally dropped that they can be rich and successful without playing the victim, maybe they've finally developed some self esteem and self worth and recognise that is is nicer to be kind than to constantly mud sling. Long may it last <I won't hold my breath>.

Ohnonevermind · 12/10/2022 16:16

There was a WP article telling them it was time to move on or they’d be stuck in permanent victimhood.

They are definitely are moving on in a positive manner, but the bullying issues still remains

Agree. People will continue to bully, post bomb and talk over anyone supportive of H&M even when the topic is about something positive they have done.

LookingAtYou · 12/10/2022 16:44

'Agree. People will continue to bully, post bomb and talk over anyone supportive of H&M even when the topic is about something positive they have done'

It isn't bullying or talking over anyone, it is debate and scrutiny. They're a divisive pair and do generate heated discussion. As I said let's hope they've realised they don't need to keep bashing the rf to get airtime, perhaps they can see they have more to offer.

Something that amazes me is that for everything else, mumsnet finds the Daily Mail unreliable, malicious etc. Suddenly when it come to M&H in the eyes of the same posters they are totally truthful and to be relied on in every detail. Which is it?

Also, if you want to talk about complaining about parents, upbringing and the RF in general, someone needs to talk to Charles… he wasn’t exactly complimentary in either the TV interview or in the books around that time. If Harry has trashed the RF in his book, he’s only following in his father’s footsteps. You can’t open a door (discussions of the RF with the press) then complain when other family members (Diana, Harry) follow you through (well apparently Charles can and is but it’s a bit hypocritical).

I thought it was an 2 American journalists who wrote racist comments. I don't like her because she called all British people racist. I have never, ever been racist in my life!

Ohnonevermind · 12/10/2022 18:53

@Talia99

court papers had to be amended to reflect the fact that MM collaborated with Omid Scobie through an intermediary, as her first statement to the court said she didn’t and her evidence was only changed after conflicting evidence was submitted

MM told Oprah that her passport was taken away but she managed 13 private trips

She told the journalist in the cut that a SA cast member from the Lion told her that people were dancing in the streets like they did when Mandea was released. This cast member doesn’t exist

other examples exist but let’s stick with these

I have posted on the motivation for lying in these circumstances but I cannot accept her word blindly as a result, and I can’t understand posters who do.

Secondly, having read the accounts of staff, I found them credible so I have to take those allegations seriously, those people affected deserve to have the allegations taken seriously

i hope they have a good life in the states and find some happiness and move on. I don’t wish them ill, but I can’t jump up and down and shout about how great they are.

I can appreciate that Meghan is trying to start debate in woman's issues, I can appreciate that they make donations to world kitchen and other important groups, but I personally then slightly question their motives, what percentage is from the heart philanthropy and what part is PR philanthropy,

oneuptwodown · 12/10/2022 18:55

It's so weird, the posters on MN who vaunt H&M.

I can buy into defending MM from online and media bullies, somewhat. But that's a totally different thing to what is basically free marketing/PR for them.

But there's literally nobody who readily comes to mind who has cheerleaders on MN like Meghan Markle and Harry.

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE, WHY DO THEY DO IT?

oneuptwodown · 12/10/2022 18:56

And let me guess, they will respond "oh we're just balancing out the hate"...

So peculiar.

MrsVonSydow · 12/10/2022 18:58

@oneuptwodown
You’re not wrong! 😂

This is interesting - I think these Russian troll farms and bots are responsible for much of the social media activity which seems intent on polarising and destabilising the west.

It could as easily relate to the myriad nasty posts about the royal family (in fact more likely, get enough people frothing, demanding a republic, and whoops, there's another shit storm brewing in the UK) as those about Harry and Meghan - divide and conquer on a grand scale. Something to think about.

The interference was very noticeable during the Scottish Independence referendum and the Brexit referendum. And as long as people would rather get their information from unchecked sources on SM and the likes of QAnon, god help us, nothing will change.

@Talia99
Straight out of Compton’, ‘Nappy days’, ‘all white on the night’ are 3 headlines that come to mind off the top of my head. Criticism of M touching her bump - Kate doing the same showed ‘natural maternal instinct’. Criticism of M&H holding hands in public as inappropriate PDA, when W&K do it, the story is about how nice it is they have a strong marriage

No dear, that's not how referencing works. I've googled those phrases and nothing negative comes up. Referencing means you put up a valid link. Touching the 'bump'. So how is that racist? Holding hands, ditto? Catherine (she isn't called Kate by the way) had just as much negative press in the early days. You have to do better. Link uk press headlines in the time before the pair decided to trash the RF to the world, whine about how no one asked her how she was while swanning around dirt poor children in Africa in her million dollar wardrobe, taking private jets and preaching to us nobodies about the environment. Hypocrisy springs to mind.

No one disliked her to begin with. She's earned that privilege. I don't care whether she is black, white or polka dot, she is not an honourable or an honest person.

inheritanceshiteagain · 12/10/2022 19:35

Redfrangipani · 12/10/2022 14:44

@inheritanceshiteagain I don’t have the actual newspaper names to hand but, not off the top of my head, I’d say to you to google in Meghan Markle ‘Straight out of Compton’ ‘exotic blood’ . You can also Google Meghan Markle and racism and misogyny, and I don’t doubt you’ll be swamped with opinion pieces in newspapers, and academic papers - it’s all there. Now if I was you I’d stop denying MM has faced racism and misogyny because it makes you look ill informed or just plain determined to remain that way.

I've googled it and come up with nothing. I've asked for actual links to papers etc, why can't you link them? Because they don't exist in the way you are saying. She gets appalling press coverage because she is not a nice person, but I've not seen a mainstream British paper say anything racist. Just link it you can find it, don't ask me to google.
