Charles has just created William Prince of Wales from today. So one question answered. Good decision.

Princess of Wales is the title given to the wife of the Prince of Wales ... since they've been married Camilla has been the princess of Wales.

Karmakamelion · 09/09/2022 19:08

I thought that the heir to the throne was always prince of Wales?

what happens to Diana’s title? (I know she’s not alive) but she has always been known as Diana, Princess of Wales. Does she lose that now since Kate has got it?

No, just like none of her many predecessors since the 1200s has their titles changed because there was a new incumbent.

You only 'lose' it if you get an upgrade to Queen

Tierne · 09/09/2022 19:09

I think it was a gentle and inclusive speech. He is going to be a great kind king.

God save the king.

Heaven wouldn't be heaven unless you get all the dogs there

Oh yes I agree! They will all be there waiting for her...!
A very moving, eloquent speech for his dear mother from our King.
God rest your Majesty.

Vapeyvapevape · 09/09/2022 19:11

He looks so much like his father .

Great speech but I don't know how he got through it. My dad died a few months ago and I spent the day after crying down the phone to insurance and pension companies etc.

I'm glad that he showed emotion and love. Must be hard to become King at the age of 73.

I guess at times people find strength they didn’t know they had. Last week 13 year old Jack De Bromhead died after falling from his pony at a pony racing meeting in Ireland. His parents (his father Henry is a very well known and liked racehorse trainer) put out the most beautiful statement within 24 hours and then gave a very moving eulogy at his funeral on Wednesday. How they had the strength to keep breathing, let alone speak so eloquently is beyond me.

Ifrozethehoumous · 09/09/2022 19:12

He was spot on and I feel for him, now grieving for both parents. Very hard.

TrueNorthernBird · 09/09/2022 19:14

It was a beautiful address with the perfect tone - love, State, faith (I have none but I envied theirs), every day family, stature. His eyes at the end had me weeping. The flight of angels indeed. May they accompany her and support Him.

The St Paul's choristers are breathtaking. My Dad was one when he was a child (plus Westminster Abbey and King's College) and I can never hear them without weeping.

StanwayRussoHempParris · 09/09/2022 19:15

I was surprised to find I warmed to him …

KezzabellaB · 09/09/2022 19:17

Lovely speech. But then I've always liked Charles and I think Camila will be a brilliant Queen too.

Novum · 09/09/2022 19:17

Even though it's expected, it's a hell of an undertaking taking on such a big new job at the age of 72.

Rowgtfc72 · 09/09/2022 19:17

Always had my doubts about Charles but I've got to say, whether he wrote that address or not, he delivered it beautifully and with humanity. His words of love for his family, speaking personally to his mama and the Hamlet quote at the end, I certainly had a tear in my eye.
I think he'll do OK.

Nottogetapenny · 09/09/2022 19:18

I agree with others. It was an amazing address King Charles made.

After hearing what he said. I have no doubt he will be a great king

long live the king 👑

That was a lovely speech.

And as an aside, he has the most beautiful speaking voice. I could listen to him all day

Yes. I agree. He has the most lovely voice. Very soothing.

Tierne · 09/09/2022 19:19

I have a feeling he wrote that speech, dont know if I've made this up but have always had the sense it had a touch of the spiritual poet about him

Charles didn't become Prince of Wales til he was 20. And he was 3 when the Queen became the Queen.

Tierne · 09/09/2022 19:21

Does it mean anything that he didnt mention Harry's titles and just said he wished them the best with their life abroad?

He wrote that speech. It was so him. Particularly including the commonwealth all the time. I think he's a thoughtful, sensitive man. People who next him say he's very knowledgeable about the interests he supports.

Helgadaley · 09/09/2022 19:23

A wonderful speech, with just the right tone. He was obviously deeply upset but holding it together, just as his mother would have wished. I was pleased that he mentioned Harry and Meghan too. Perhaps (wishful thinking) that the rift can be healed, going forward.

Harry is already a Duke, he doesn't get a new title, although I think his children could be a Prince and Princess now they are the grandchildren of the Monarch. I could be wrong on that though.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/09/2022 19:24

It was a lovely address. Actually welled up a couple of times as he spoke. I think he'll be an excellent and proactive King and Camilla will be a supportive and hardworking Queen.

to me it meant he loves his son, but since his son has made it clear he doesn’t want an official role he hasn’t given him one.

Beautiful speech. I think he is going to be a fantastic King
