Charles has just created William Prince of Wales from today. So one question answered. Good decision.

And for that I love him as I do Tom Jones and Shirly Bassey.

This makes no sense whatever.

Legrandsophie · 09/09/2022 22:30

It is a shame really because I feel like that poster might have learned a few things today. Hence becoming more an more vulgar to hide that they have nothing beyond wild assertions and nationalism.

I think some posters have their own ‘facts’.

Well factoids anyway.

It's a long time since cottages were burnt

Tory?

No I'm not a Tory 😂 what is that an insult these days is it. Or just a way of labelling people that don't agree with you 😂

I'm starting to get a mental image of you Sianny and it smells like cachu.

I liked the speech. He's aging well and so is his voice. Either he is brilliant at memorising things or an absolute ace at reading an autocue, but either way he did very well to make something that must have been well rehearsed still come across as warm and sincere which I think it was.

Retiring the PoW title...yes it probably was created to gloat 700 years ago but meanings can change. Also where do you stop? Some of the most famous and fabulous castles in the world were built on symbolic sites in north Wales to physically subjugate and also symbolically lord it over the Welsh, but I don't know anyone who thinks they should be razed to the ground.

I also cried ffs 🙄 Sensible move to declare the Wales' straight away. I think it would have been nice if he had done the same for Ed & Soph (Edinburgh) but I'm guessing that'll come soon enough. I'm glad he gave H&M a mention.

I don’t think he is going to give Edinburgh to Edward. I think he is going to give it to George when he is 18/21

landofgiants · 09/09/2022 22:37

There are two definitions of nationality. One is belonging or citizenship of a particular country. The other is a group of people of the same race, traditions etc.

Of course Shirley Bassey is Welsh.

@CPL593H I'm in (descended from Edward I but only through the female line.) But like you, I'll settle for Charles right now.

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain See you in the lists!

You've got to thank the English for building all these lovely castles for us to enjoy. I can see one from some of our house windows. All lit up at night it's quite beautiful .

landofgiants · 09/09/2022 22:46

StuntEgg · 09/09/2022 22:20

For those who are motivated to do so, a petition to end the title exists on change.org

Thank you.

His heart will be breaking

While this is entirely possible, maybe it's best not to make too many assumptions?
After all Charles has been cruel enough about his mum when it suited, and not all of us are fickle enough to believe one speech makes all the difference

When was he cruel and what did he do?

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 09/09/2022 22:50

Regarding the Scottish titles, didn't Charles also hold the title "Lord of the Isles"? I love that one.
The line at the end of his speech from Hamlet - when you hear it sang as Diana's coffin was carried from Westminster Abbey, the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. I believe Charles chose the music for her funeral so it obviously means a lot to him. It's nice to think he chose that for her.

SiannyMarne · 09/09/2022 22:25

Yes twelve year old emoji

You are a bit obsessed with calling emojis twelve years old aren't you @SiannyMarne

I am pretty sure both Hmm and 😂have been around more than 12 years.

Also, are you quite all right? Serious question...

justasking111 · 09/09/2022 22:55

bellac11 · 09/09/2022 22:49

Well they're all blended in now Heinz 57. Which genetically is no bad thing.

I’ve seen and heard nothing but deep affection for years. It’s not just one speech. They were clearly very close and loving at the Diamond Jubilee concert.

haveyouopenedyourbowelstoday · 09/09/2022 22:56

As a proud Welsh woman I'm so pleased about our new Prince and Princess of Wales. Will be interesting to see where the Investiture is held. Cardiff Castle? St.David's Cathedral?

CardiffMam · 09/09/2022 23:02

SiannyMarne · 09/09/2022 19:57

I feel sad that the opportunity wasn't taken to retire the title "Prince of Wales" . It was used by Edward the First to humiliate the Welsh. The last true Prince of Wales was Owain Glyndŵr or even Llywelyn ap Gruffudd.

I agree. Now we have another Englishman as a prince of Wales. When will this end?!

j712adrian · 09/09/2022 23:05

Wonder if the Royal Marines will have to defend a Welsh Investiture like they did last time?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/09/2022 23:07

Yes twelve year old emoji

A bit like the 12 year old "Why should we"?

Since you mentioned drinking yourself, maybe it's time to put the bottle down now?

When was he cruel and what did he do?

Look up Dimbleby's authorised biography, bellac11 ...

As a proud Welsh woman, I am not. It is a shame Charles didn't take the opportunity to do some modernising and bin the whole thing.
