William and Kate now Prince and Princess of Wales

Charles has just created William Prince of Wales from today. So one question answered. Good decision.

I think in the sense that you mean that there has only ever been one ‘true’ (if you mean widely acclaimed by all the Welsh kingdoms) Prince of Wales, which is Gruffydd ap Llywelyn. The rest were all princes of Gwynedd with a lot of influence.

And the last of that line died childless in the Tower of London, much like the last Plantagenet king of England.

I do actually agree that language suppression is detrimental. In the same way I think it barbaric to suppress Cornish and Scots Gaelic. So much has been lost.

The language suppression started much earlier than the Norman invasion really. The early forays by the church in Rome tried to establish Latin (as it did in most places). But real efforts didn’t start until the end of the 18th century. It wouldn’t have helped the Normans anyway. At that point in time there were so many varying dialects of Middle English that they were almost like different languages.

And I think the adoption of Methodism makes sense for a country that had such and active Celtic church. It took to church in Rome and the Roman bishops a long time to persuade the Celtic church to adopt its version of Christianity. The old Brythonic and Gaelic nations always did like something more aesthetic.

My point is this would have been a good time to get rid of the made up title of Prince of Wales used by the English royal family as a kick in the nuts for wales.

Getting to bits of info across, they may lose their titles and they will stay abroad.

They won’t lose their titles.

If the they remove theirs then they’d have to remove Andrew’s. If they do that then the public at large realise it can be done, and isn’t that difficult.

So the next time one of them steps out of line the title goes.

They’re never going to do that. Even the Duke of Windsor was titled despite making the ultimate break away from the family.

I can't help thinking that there's a huge lack of proportion here. Why is he supposed to a) make Wales a priority and b) when his mother is barely cold? do you realise how daft you sound?

And what doesn't he give a flying fuck about? (I realise I might be unleashing a torrent here.) Surely as a devolved nation it's your government you should be expecting to address your concerns.

Perhaps it is time to restore the Plantagenet succession (in England alone) The 10s of millions of us with an equally good claim genetically could battle it out. I suggest jousting.

Actually, I'm fairly happy after today with the Stuart/Tudor/Hanoverian/Lord knows what else Charles at the moment.

I don't think it matters if Prince William has a tiny bit of Welsh ancestry or not. I don't know what Charles motivations are; I would imagine he has done it because it is tradition. I'm actually English (mostly) but living in North West Wales.
