Prince Archie & Princess Lilibet?

Surely not?

I look forward to Harry's announcement explaining that they will decline prince and princess titles for their DC, in keeping with their decision to stand down as senior royals and live private lives in the US.

Anything less under the circumstances would be rank hypocrisy

Bloody hope they don't use or accept the titles.

TheHorrorOfIt · 09/09/2022 10:16

The various websites showing the line of succession have them as Master Archie and Miss Lilibet; I assume if they were going to call them Prince and Princess they would have done it by now?

Viviennemary · 09/09/2022 10:17

I wondered if they will just start using them without any announcement. Wouldnt be surprised. Ive also not actually eard anybody say Queen Camilla yet. Only Queen Consort. But the late Queen mother was Queen Elizabeth.

over50andfab · 09/09/2022 10:18

I’m sure there will be some people watching their social media accounts like hawks Biscuit

lollipoprainbow · 09/09/2022 10:27

Ffs can't we lay off the Harry hate for one day.

TheWheeledAvenger · 09/09/2022 10:52

They don't use their own HRH titles (still have them, just use them) and Meghan's never used her own Princess title, and they turned down an Earlship for Archie, so why would they do that?

William and Kate updated all their social media accounts to show their new title within hours of the Queen passing (which none of the other royals even Charles did) which has been widely criticised in America for being crass.

William & Kate can’t be compared to the other royal here though.

Apart from Charles & Camilla, who’s getting a new title apart from possibly Edward? It’s not as important for the public to know these other royal’s titles asap. William is now the heir and his new title needs to be made clear do those referring to him in the press or via organisations know.

With Charles, it may not have been updated because it’s so important (relatively speaking!) it needs a little time to sort out. Check exactly how he wants to be referred and go through protocols with the govt.

Interesting. I'm always amazed how they get away with having such sharp elbows.

It's said Meghan wouldn't have him called "Earl of Dumbarton" (the junior title of the Dukedom of Sussex) because of the Dum.

Did they do that personally, or do they just have more efficient staff?

Arf. Hardly sharp elbows when they come above all others besides Charles & Camilla in the pecking order. And when they wouldn’t have made the changes if BP didn’t agree.

Kensington Royals has always been focused on William. It didn’t need to have a handover period to go from the old to the new.

Clarence House Twitter hasn’t changed its bio because presumably it may not be handling Charles anymore or if it is, a lot of admin needs to be done. It did however RT a tweet 17 hours ago from the Royal Family about the King and Queen Consort.

A statement by King Charles was put on The Royal Family website yesterday. As were info boxes about The King and Queen Consort.

Ah yes rumour and hearsay that some people like to believe 🙄.

RandomPenguinHouse · 09/09/2022 12:29

To be fair, I wouldn’t want my young child to be called Earl of Dumb…arton either, especially if I had a fraught relationship with the press and knew my child would be written about.

So I wouldn’t judge MM for this if true.

Can't we just have a Harry free day altogether?
No doubt this'll be another chapter in his book and reality show so let's not give him more air time now.

I like William and Kate, but if they did that, I think it is a bit crass. I don't know why America it would be widely reported on the news channels in the US, though! Why would Americans care or even be interested that they went from being Cambridges to Cornwalls!
I can't believe so many countries apparently hate the uk whilst being so interested in its minutiae.

But you would be fine with Sussex?

mmm, let’s think a moment

So, Suss-ex as in the infamous Suss laws, which were definitely used in racist ways?

or how about there is “sex” in Sussex?

but no, it’s the Scottish name that is slagged off.

Wartywart · 09/09/2022 16:25

I thought Archie (and Lilibet) had been blocked from those titles? That's what Meghan told Oprah isn't it?

I would feel better about Sussex even though it’s not ideal. Because “dumb” is low hanging fruit for other kids. So is sex when kids are older but you can’t call someone ‘sex’ as a bullying nickname in the same way you can call them ‘dumb’.

As for “the infamous Suss laws”, well since the Sus law (one ‘s’ and ‘law’ singular by the way) was abolished in 1981, I doubt many of Archie’s contemporaries would know of it to bully him.

how many hours? Yesterday or this morning?

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 16:55

What?! I'm English and I've heard of Dumbarton all my life because of Satruday football scores. Never once have I associated it with dumb. Because I'm not dumb. And neither is Meghan so I'm sure this is just a joke someone else made up.

I don't tend to believe rumours as they're unproven. However some people like to believe them as it suits what they'd like to believe.

RandomPenguinHouse · 09/09/2022 17:14

I’m not dumb either Marsha, ta.
But it’s a concern I’d have - even if I then dismissed it - because of children being children and how it looks written down. Especially American children who won’t have heard of Dumbarton.

RandomPenguinHouse · 09/09/2022 17:16

Not that I believe the rumour, I don’t believe rumours from vague, unnamed sources. But I don’t think it would be an unreasonable concern.

Im think Charles hasn't been updated as he will shift to the Royal Family account that the Queen uses after the funeral and his current account will be archived.
