Due to them booing the so called 'royal' William & the national anthem yesterday at the F.A. cup final. It made my day :)

You might want to do some research into Liverpool football supporters and their behaviours over the years (a subject you clearly know nothing about 😁) before you get too excited there, Tania64.

I was quite touched when they sang "You'll never walk alone" for Ronaldo when he lost his baby.

Not when they booed the National Anthem though.

Tania64 · 15/05/2022 17:35

I stand by my comment. My daughter lived in Liverpool for 6 years so I spent a fair amount of time there. Any football fans I came into contact with seemed really nice. Regardless of that, I just love love love all fellow republicans.

I don’t think you can assume that the Liverpool football fans booing pretty much all the pre-match activities at Wembley are your fellow republicans, you know.

Billandben444 · 15/05/2022 17:57

If it made your day, may I respectfully suggest you get a life?

Batceanera · 15/05/2022 17:58

It is a long standing protest of opposition towards the establishment, including. Managed decline and the Hillsborough verdict.

Taking the knee is an anti racism protest. People boo that.

It is important to have freedom of speech and freedom to a peaceful protest.

Well said OP. I'm very proud of my home city: on this particular occasion.

Ashamed to have "UK" on my passport though, but fuck all choice in the matter for as long as people are going to defend the indefensible.

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 15/05/2022 18:04

People do seem to be tiring of the RF.

Yes she can. Merseyside hates the Establishment with a passion.

People do seem to be tiring of the RF.

I do wonder how they will maintain the glamour when it’s only pensioners being crowned.

its novel to hear demonstration of anti monarchist / establishment sentiment - may be the start as the queen becomes less visible and the younger generation just looks so out of touch with reality for most people.

The real idiots - none of them from Liverpool - are the people cheering the criminals in ostrich feathers.

ArtVandalay · 15/05/2022 18:16

I’m a republican but I think they were rude twats.

Holly60 · 15/05/2022 18:17

God that's so embarrassing - booing your own national anthem? I'm sure Russian propaganda will love that...

Noname99 · 15/05/2022 18:18

They also booed the B positive choir (all of whom suffer from sickle cell) singing Abide with me so no … I struggle to see why they are a source of pride

cabansunset · 15/05/2022 18:21

I love Liverpudlians but I am embarrassed for their behaviour - booing your own national anthem, classless.

userxx · 15/05/2022 18:22

Embarrassing for Liverpool.

The 'backstory' of Liverpool fans is that the right wing press told a slew of lies to smear them after the Hillborough disaster.

Liverpool then boycotted the Sun. They do not take to BS too easily.

I'm not really a royalist, but William isn't a "so called" royal, he is just royal, even if you (and I) think the RF shouldn't exist.

Also, I could be wrong, but haven't they booed the national anthem for several decades now? As opposed to being some new and spontaneous dislike for Prince William?

Fair enough if they want to do it I suppose, no one's stopping them, but I'm not sure you can read much into it. Especially if they also booed Abide With Me as PP said. That's just them being rude.

RedWreck · 15/05/2022 18:25

Embarrassing & rude no matter what your particular opinions & beliefs.
You sound a bit of a twat tbh.

Olderwoman57 · 15/05/2022 18:28

Why did they boo the choir singing Abide with me? It’s a choir raising awareness

notanotheroneagain · 15/05/2022 18:31

Rather ironic that the British press were inciting the public to boo H&M, and what they got were boos for their golden prince. They also said Will cried, can he imagine what it's like to Meghan.

But no worries, good ol William is protected as always. The BBC commentators artfully dodged mentioning the boos and a player refusing to shake his hand. The DM were also quick to change their headlines in his favour.

Nevertheless, I have enjoyed football fans talk about his booing.

@notanotheroneagain why did they boo the choir?
