Here is previous thread.

I've started a new thread because today and tomorrow is crucial as far as the pending civil case.

And I also had a few comments I wanted to say to posters at the end of the last thread, but it ran out.

I wonder if Andy will take part in his mums jubilee?

He's family, so might be in some of the events.

But he'll be kept as far out of the limelight as possible and will have no role other than to stand there , ideally at an inconvenient camera angle

He could be part of a procession?

Given how tone-deaf she's been thus far, I imagine he'll take pride of place.

Meanwhile, as worlds collide, I wonder about any nominative determinism at play where the Duke of York is facing a New York court case. Appeals to my inner Jung ....

NiceShrubbery · 09/01/2022 15:52

I think instead of a public shaming, he's in line for a Jubilee medal invented by his mum. She's probably a bit disappointed Jeff won't be there to get his.

Be interesting to see how many people getting a Jubilee medal decide to return it as they don't want to keep company with Prince Andrew.
Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:01

Tone deaf indeed.

Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:04

The medal is for the armed forces as thanks for their service, given that some senior military were calling for PA to be stripped of his rank (or whatever it's called) I wouldn't be surprised if some medals were returned.

protecting Prince Andrew ? Not sure I would get a medal if I started defending Jimmy Savile.

NiceShrubbery · 09/01/2022 16:08

SerendipityJane. Would be wonderful to see the country growing a collective spine.

Malariahilaria · 09/01/2022 16:13

Slightly sickened today about all the 'look at amazing Kate at 40' articles. The Times has an article acres long about how wonderful, and steady, and calm and collected and 'real' she is, how she'll make an amazing queen, and how only she understands what it means to be royal on and on and on it goes.

To the point made up thread the media seems to keep throwing that version of monarchy at us when we can all see what is going on with Andrew, it's s bizarre. Almost at though they know that if Andrew does bring down the monarchy it will really damage their circulation figures.

Roussette · 09/01/2022 16:21

@Malariahilaria

I agree. The articles about Kate are sycophantic, sugary and ridiculous in their grovelling. I've nothing against the woman but when you have the photographer saying that Kate gives hope to the world, I lose the will to live, I really do. How does an attractive woman in a dress who's had her picture taken, give hope to the world? I wish someone would tell me.

This is force feeding a narrative which is what the RF does when things aren't going their way.
Roll on the decision on PA is what I say.

The media ?

The UK media maybe -after all, what wannabe press baron wouldn't like their souls to be bought for a shiny trinket and explosion in a scrabble factory.

Those of us with weirdo ideas about everyone being equal yadda yadda, and who want news, know to look below the fold and beyond the horizon.

For various reasons over the years I've often cited the US Declaration of Independence. It's a refreshing take on Monarchy.

It’s Kate’s 40th birthday today. She couldn’t change the day. Also, whatever PA has got up to, or not, is nothing to do with Kate. PA is her husband’s uncle. Are you in any way responsible for anything that your husband’s uncle does?
Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:25

Do the press think we're stupid (answer yes ) 'Ooh look peasants , a picture of a pretty lady , no don't look over there , look at the pretty lady'.

Roussette · 09/01/2022 16:28

Husband's uncle... a member of the royal family, of which Kate is a part. That's it really.
We look at the wholer family because we fund them.

Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:29

Although, in the presses defence , I guess there would still have been pictures of Kate regardless of PA and his shit show.

Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:30

I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear what the rest of the family are saying.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 09/01/2022 16:37

They're probably still busy speculating on the colour of Meghan Markle's next child.

They don't strike me as a particularly mentally agile bunch.

Loving the airbrushmongous pictures of Kate.

There's an old saying (possibly Eleanor Roosevelt ?) to the effect that you wouldn't worry what people thought about you if you knew how seldom they did.

By this token it's pretty clear the Royal Family don't give a toss what the plebs think. By their actions ye shall judge them. And, yes. By their actions (those we are allowed to know about) we do judge them.

It's a weird world when - as a republican - I find myself remembering royal stories much more than royalists claim to . Wasn't the Queen accused of being tone-deaf over the business of flag flying and Dianas death ? So anyone who is remotely puzzled by her ignoring her subjects (once again) over PA isn't really keeping up.

Sometimes destiny outwits us all. That this is happening in the Platinum Jubilee year could be interpreted as some sort of divine commentary. Which anyone lucky enough to run their own religion (looks pointedly at the Supreme Head of the Church of England) might ponder on.

Paquerette · 09/01/2022 16:46

PA is also MM’s husband’s uncle … a member of the royal family, of which MM is a part.

The “fund them” issue is a nasty comment. We also “fund” anyone who works for the NHS, police, armed forces etc, and also disabled people who are unable to work. That doesn’t give anyone the right to pick apart their behaviour or lifestyle. It’s comments like that that encourage the “I pay your wages” crap that gets regularly yelled at NHS workers.

merrymouse · 09/01/2022 16:48

This being the US, where civil cases are heard by jury, the first thing he should do is try everything he can to avoid a trial, as his lawyers are doing.

I understand that from a legal point of view, but I also think that from a moral point of view some of the tactics he is using preclude him from taking any further part in public life, and cast a shadow over the entire institution of Royalty.

Either you are the kind of person who could be covered by a deal made by Epstein or you are the kind of person that stands next to the head of state and represents the armed forces on Remembrance Sunday.

You can’t be both.

Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:49

I was going to mention Diana's death and the Queen not coming to London (although I did agree with her on this as her priority was shielding W and H ) but she quite clearly isn't in touch/ doesn't care about what her subjects think.

derxa · 09/01/2022 16:50

@Vapeyvapevape

I think it's more that you have contempt for British people and think they will accept propaganda from the press especially the Daily Mail. You of course are part of the enlightened elite who is not fooled. I read the Daily Mail online every day along with the Guardian and other sources. Comments from readers are very condemning of PA. Why wouldn't they be? He's a despicable individual guilty or not guilty of any trial outcomes.
Vapeyvapevape · 09/01/2022 16:51

But the police and NHS workers actually do a worthwhile job and I don't begrudge them a penny.
