@rubicscubicle

This aged well

As I had said above, it's a background brief. Either JK does not know his job that he takes what is given to him as background and feeds it to the media.

Who is instructing him to do this btw, he is still working for the palace.

Keep telling yourself that if it helps. Grin

It’s not remotely credible, though. As you yourself said upthread, the press briefings Meghan gave about her family were anodyne comments about how she’s not seen them for years (which is exactly what press briefing lines are). She gave the authors of Finding Freedom the real dirt that she obviously wanted to get out about them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 19:45

If it goes to trial - which is the point for ANL - both sides can bring more evidence

That's why nothing much more is likely to happen; the RF won't want yet more revelations, so the whole thing will probably be squashed a la Paul Burrell

And you're right, Cabingirl; it was stupid of me not to have realised that, if they were fakes, Meghan would simply have said so
It's true that Knauf now works for the palace and could have a motive to discredit her, but nobody forced her to mislead the court and destroy her own credibility

Harry, too, considering the content where he tells Knauf about the importance of not being seen to have had anything to do with it
Shame it didn't occur to them not to have done it at all ...

I don't think Meghan will accept this - she will want the chance to prove her point.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 19:55

Makes no difference, Preparation - if the RF want it stopped then stopped it will be

Which isn't to say they won't do another expose/interview/whatever to explain how principled and trustworthy they really are Hmm

cabingirl · 10/11/2021 19:58

They were foolish to bring the privacy part of the case in the first place - knowing that there were email trails showing they'd been happy to collaborate with the FF book.

ANL benefits whether they win or lose. The income generated from getting all this info out there and being able to write about it over and over again in their papers will be more than they will have to pay in court costs/compensation. It doesn't affect their reputation because they are tabloids - everyone already thinks they are dirt diggers etc.

Meghan and Harry have created a trap for themselves - and they've walked right into it. I guess their legal firm don't care - they are getting paid either way.

HAhelp · 10/11/2021 19:59

Am a bit shocked by this part in Meghan's email

"She [Samantha] had lost custody of all three of her children from three different fathers"

Clearly, Meghan and Samantha don't have a relationship, Meghan is rightly hacked off at Samantha trying to make money out of their tenuous (non) relationship.

Meghan can absolutely and justifiably rebut everything Samantha says - but why give this information? Why reference the different fathers - it just feels a bit Stan Collymore with his 4x4 reference...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 20:00

She gave the authors of Finding Freedom the real dirt that she obviously wanted to get out about them

According to the quote, she also said "please let me know if you need me to fill in any other blanks" ... so much for not having cooperated with the writing of the book

queenofarles · 10/11/2021 20:00

agree,
I must admit I’m genuinely embarrassed for them.

BonnesVacances · 10/11/2021 20:02

The thing I find hardest to believe is that Meghan would have referred to her family as the Markle's. If that's so, I'm more disappointed in her inability to use apostrophes than anything else. But I dunno. I'm still on the fence. That email didn't read like her voice. She's very verbose.

Yeah, that's just a bit vicious.
smilesy · 10/11/2021 20:09

You are right,BonnesVacances she is normally verbose, but given that she has apologised for misleading the court over the existence of the emails, they are surely genuine.

MauraandLaura · 10/11/2021 20:10

Well that summery of the emails are pretty damning. If you give some one enough rope eh?..

I think this is just solidifying that most people were right about them both

Absolutely. Most people from The Queen down to your average Joe (those that weren’t wearing rose tinted glasses) could see what they were about.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree with either of them.

Meghan’s statement on it says “In the light of the information and documents that Mr Knauf has provided, I accept that Mr Knauf did provide some information to the authors for the Book and that he did so with my knowledge, for a meeting that he planned for with the authors in his capacity as Communications Secretary” She goes on to explain why she forgot and that this specific meeting didn’t stand out to her, which is obviously a separate issue, but she seems to accept the email is genuine.
WarmWinterSun · 10/11/2021 20:23

@BonnesVacances

In the absence of a challenge to its authenticity, a document included in a court hearing bundle will be treated as authentic. Meghan also accepts that it is authentic. There is no doubt on this point.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 20:27

I think this is just solidifying that most people were right about them both

Well, I suppose it depends what about. There's so much we'll never know, and a lot of twaddle's been written, but the basic premise that they're deceitful and have a loose grasp on the truth seems indisputable now

Trouble is, if someone's found to have lied already it casts doubt on other things they've said - and they've said a hell of a lot

Anyway I'd love to be a fly on the wall at KP/Clarence House right now

cabingirl · 10/11/2021 20:32

They are clearly not good at taking advice - they were told not to send the letter and instead to just fly over and talk to Thomas Markle. Which would have been the most sensible way to deal with him.

I'm sure they were advised not to bring this court case in the first place - even if you win ALL this other stuff comes out. And is then there in public to be repeated over and over again.

Serenster · 10/11/2021 20:35

It’s also revealing - they were happy to launch court proceedings, aiming to give the Mail a bloody nose and seek substantial damages from them, when the whole basis of their case was untrue. Meghan had to sign statements of truth as part of that, will have been warned by her lawyers about the importance of accuracy and truthfulness in court papers, and still went ahead with it (trusting no doubt that this evidence would never come out).

Clearly they have very few scruples about saying what they think will benefit themselves, irrespective of whether it’s anywhere near the truth or not.

TaliaB1 · 10/11/2021 20:36

@Paquerette He wasn't in hospital and there is no evidence he ever had heart surgery. He was seen walking around a mall stuffing his face with a burger and chips at the time.

amusedtodeath1 · 10/11/2021 20:37

What I don't understand is why anyone would bring a court case knowing you will have to "forget" things to have any chance of winning?

They just keep on making it worse for themselves and I don't get what they hope to achieve.

cabingirl · 10/11/2021 20:41

I wonder if they forgot that any NDAs signed by the staff working for them at the time were probably part of a contract to the palace not to them personally, so the palace can waive NDAs from any of the staff if needed.

Maybe H&M assumed all their correspondence would be kept secret.

TaliaB1 · 10/11/2021 20:42

@Loveatortie

This will get you going ladies, i hope she gets absoutly trashed by this. The proven lies she told on the Oprah interview ( he didn't even flinch when she said them) against his family and the uk public were atrocious. I know all families aren't perfect, but you don't go on worldwide tv and trash them. They have both been proven liars.
@Loveatortie She didn't tell any 'proven lies'. Not one has been 'proven' to be a lie.

This is all more evidence how deeply racist the UK is and why she was right to flee.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/11/2021 20:51

Interesting point, Serenster
As we've seen, the palace play dirty, and will lean on/reveal/keep secret whatever suits at the time - but nobody forced Meghan to deceive the court, or Harry to support her in doing so

I believe the word is "hubris" - as in "a great or foolish amount of pride or confidence"

queenofarles · 10/11/2021 20:52

This is all more evidence how deeply racist the UK is please stop saying this , two people are admitting to have withheld important information from court , ofcourse others will start questioning their previous claims .

No I won't because the gleeful posts on this thread is proof positive that people were prejudiced about them since she dared defend herself in the Oprah interview and now see this as 'vindication' of their prejudice. It is more than clear to me where this comes from. A woman dared to speak up about her experience as a black woman and has been hated ever since. Read a few threads on Meghan on this site, the racism and prejudice here reflects the broader UK.
