Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

God knows what HM is making of all this. She must be absolutely mortified.

To be fair she's experienced a lot of embarrassing issues with her family, starting with Margaret since she's became queen.
Harry and Meghan are a pain but the main issue has been dealt with from now on they'll just be that annoying fly you keep swatting away.

The Andrew situation and what could emerge, on the other hand must be causing lots of sleepless nights both as a monarch and mother.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2020 11:32

Bloody hell - that was quick. Is there a klaxon at MN Towers.

Interesting that pictures of Bill Clinton at Epstein’s island have emerged over the last day. There’s a lot more to emerge I think.

HebeMumsnet · 19/08/2020 11:40

Just popping in to make clear that it's actually me on the delete button at the moment I'm afraid. But that's neither here nor there. We moderate according to guidelines, not our own personal whim.

We do say in those guidelines "our mods often make difficult decisions based on context, tone and circumstance - please respect their decisions and treat them civilly" and we felt that there were a few posts here that weren't made in that spirit.

We are trying to let this conversation flow but we will delete posts that break our guidelines, and we don't tolerate agressive or rude behaviour towards any of our moderators. If we have to make too many deletions then, yes, we're afraid we may eventually have to take the thread down or close it to new posts.

HebeMN - are you responding to reports or actively monitoring these threads?

HebeMumsnet · 19/08/2020 11:51

We have had reports, LittleBear, which is why I popped on. But now I'm here I will be hanging around for a bit, yes.

Yes, she certainly has a vast experience of embarrassing issues. I suspect in some regards H&M won’t be too bad because they are distracting the media away from Andrew at the moment.

I do wonder why the media hasn’t made more of the many other well known people linked to Epstein. Hopefully the real story about that will eventually come out. As bad as I think Andrew’s behaviour has been, I think there are many others out there who haven’t been named yet and whose behaviour is at least in the same category.

Yes one of them was from me about the moderation approach you are taking.

Could it be possible that the heavy handed approach you are taking caused some of the jokes above, which weren’t rude or aggressive.

HebeMumsnet · 19/08/2020 11:57

LittleBear We felt the posts in question did break guidelines. We've replied to your report to us explaining this in more detail.

I think what Harry has failed to realise that the most important thing for the Queen is the continuation of the monarchy. There is only so much she will take before Harry will find himself in a similar position to Andrew.

I suspect come the year review, H&M will be formally set free and Harry will find himself very much on the outside of his own family as doubt anyone feels they can trust his discretion any more.

We might disagree here but I don’t see Andrew as being anything other than retired (which he probably isn’t displeased about) whilst still living in Royal Lodge, has his HRH (which he might still use, as I haven’t heard anything to the contrary), is still Duke of York, has security etc. The only issue is the public view of him but I think he is so entitled/deluded he doesn’t really care about that. In many respects it seems he still has the benefits without having to bother with public duties. In a private capacity, HMQ seems to have shown her support by being seen at church or riding with him.

When Charles is king, I suspect he will have far less tolerance towards Andrew.

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 12:05

I think Andrew really valued being a working Royal because he liked the respect it gave him. I think he is probably furious and extremely disappointed about what has happened to him. I would also speculate he still doesn't see what he did wrong.

But you are right, he still gets to enjoy a pretty privileged life!

SunbathingDragon · 19/08/2020 12:08

Yes, you’re right about the respect but I can imagine him now being in a quite insular world at Royal Lodge where he is surrounded by servants who still give him that impression. If we hadn’t gone into lockdown, maybe he would have had a bit more of a reality wake up because anywhere he travelled would have shown he had lost that respect.

Yes. I’m struggling to understand why HaM have not spoken out more against FF given the huge amount of personal detail about themselves and other members of the Royal Family in it. Surely it’s either made up or based on huge invasions of their privacy? Their silence speaks for itself, especially as they’ve never embraced the never explain/complain mantra! How can anyone trust them going forward?
SunbathingDragon · 19/08/2020 12:22

Whilst the public might remain sceptical about whether Finding Freedom is based on what H&M have told the authors or not, there are enough bits in it for the other members of the RF to know without any doubt. After all, if it was just H/M and HMQ and the story published is true then I don’t believe HMQ was the one who blabbed!!

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2020 12:35

Can you imagine HM meeting Scobie under cover of darkness to pass him info Grin

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 12:37

True fact @SunbathingDragon!

I do hope it is all worth it for Harry.
