Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

It is because the event was going to be live-streamed by Amazon and the Netflix deal prohibits them from using another streaming site.

SunbathingDragon · 06/09/2020 10:52

I would have hoped that Harry would have had the integrity to honour his commitment to Invictus but this looks as if he has prioritised a celebrity lifestyle over it. Rather than when he went to the film premier to tout for business.

Oldbutstillgotit · 06/09/2020 11:05

Thanks for explaining @ Neverendingcourgettes.
Very disappointing.

EvilPea · 06/09/2020 11:09

If it’s as it appears that’s really disappointing of harry.
Hopefully it transpires there’s a deal with Netflix for the concert in the offing.

I really hope that this is the case. I am finding it hard to believe that H would let Invictus down so hopefully new arrangements will be announced soon. Only thing is, if there was a contract with Amazon, switching to Netflix might not be so easy.
EvilPea · 06/09/2020 11:22

They have to see how bad that looks. Especially after the film premier backlash.

RubyViolet · 06/09/2020 13:25

I think the content that Netflix wants is Harry talking about Diana. If they can squeeze a series out of it this it could be massive. Diana still has huge hero status in The States.
The so called “woke” content they create is merely the window dressing. Netflix will want the Diana story.

Oldbutstillgotit · 06/09/2020 13:33

I don’t think William or indeed any of the RF would be happy if H and M focus on Diana

Viviennemary · 06/09/2020 13:36

I wonder what will happen if HM says no. But I suppose the deal is done now. Surely somebody at the palace would have foreseen this happening.

I really think it will happen, it’s the one thing he has to sell. He has already been effectively paid to talk about her at the speaking engagements they undertook in the US.

Oldbutstillgotit · 06/09/2020 13:57

But part of the Sandringham Deal was that BP would scrutinise any proposals first !

Do they though? After all, after the private planes backlash Harry was just reported as being bemused that people didn’t understand that he needed to use them because of his status. I think he feels he is massively misunderstood but that’s because his whole upbringing and lifestyle isn’t comparable with most people.

Yes, yes, and yes. It's perfectly obvious that H comes before country to the RF (it is ever thus).
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 06/09/2020 14:40

Don't they ever think!
H&M could/should have let the Invictus Games event/celebration happen before the Netflix deal was wrapped up.
Surely Harry wouldn't be so clueless & selfish.
Unless they have done this & the media are just stirring.

Agreed they should have and hopefully it will turn out that way.
MissEliza · 06/09/2020 14:57

Surely they could have negotiated that they work with Amazon on the Invictus thing.
As for the possibility of a Diana documentary, H has every right to tell his DM's story if that's he wants. I doubt his brother will be happy about it.

It’s the Fail but has the same story. The fundraiser was going to be next summer.

LittleBearPad · 06/09/2020 15:11

Spring - sorry

Lockupyourbiscuits · 06/09/2020 15:14

I think the problem is Harry can’t remember what he’s said
The every click of the camera springs to mind
Followed by the privacy and not wanting the press to attack his family as happened to his mother

This is promptly followed by move to la - umpteen photo shoots - then signing with a platform showing a musical about his mother
The icing on the cake would be doing a programme on his mother to make a few million

I really don’t know how he squares all that off but I’m sure he will

RubyViolet · 06/09/2020 15:15

Totally agree with this above. H has every right to do this, and l think he will do it. It’s worth a serious fortune. It’s his story to tell. It’s just that l always thought the RF were above this tell all stuff, especially Harry who seemed to place such importance on privacy.
If he wants to sell his (his Mother’s) story he might as well make sure it’s the biggest payday he can get.

Oldbutstillgotit · 06/09/2020 15:45

I am no legal expert but I am wondering if the RF could block a film about Diana ?

SunbathingDragon · 06/09/2020 15:57

I think it will depend how she is portrayed. I can’t see a son who loved his mum promoting a film that shows his mum in a bad light yet to show her in a good light, it might be negative towards his father and grandmother (which I also can’t see). Otherwise, the story will be Diana in the public eye and that story is better known and probably not as valuable.

Harry was 12 when Diana died. I remember how much of her and her true feelings/views he knew and/or remembers.

If William strongly opposes the film, that could also be an issue.

Oldbutstillgotit · 06/09/2020 16:04

@ SunbathingDragon
The Diana story has been told and retold so the only way H and M can make money is to offer something new . I agree that it is very unlikely they will portray Diana in a bad light so the obvious alternative is to make other people look bad .

FromEden · 06/09/2020 17:29

Well they've already shown with the book that they have no qualms about doing this so I'm sure that's the route they will take. May as well burn a few more bridges!

But the immediate people are those H&M are currently reliant upon financially and will continue to be if they don’t make enough money to be financially independent. They are also reliant upon those same people for titles, status and rank (or link).
