I am really not sure about this. They "felt compelled" to share how the name came about and to announce their new venture but they're not releasing details because they want the focus to remain on the Covid crisis?

This is a mess. Full of contradiction. I finally admit that they have lost their way.

They just feel really irrelevant right now.

Also, crap name.

Luc1nda · 07/04/2020 09:01

I don't get it.

Just think of the life they could have had as minor royals, pursuing any philanthropic endeavour that struck their fancy, living in the most beautiful of estates, indulging any interest or sport, surrounded by family for their baby, holidaying anywhere they like and a bit of pomp and ceremony a couple of times a year.

I can't think why they would choose this.

Silly name, silly statement. Seem to be channelling the Duke of Windsor's descent more and more. Are they poncing digs from Cindy Crawford&Rande Gerber now and is it true they are having more 'time off'? From what?!
They would do better just to slide into obscurity and live the quiet life they asked for.

Yes. I find the whole thing baffling. I wonder what the rest of the family make of it all.

How are they pronouncing that name, I wonder?

Etcni · 07/04/2020 09:19

Surely they can't be planning to have more kids if they're effectively naming their org after the first... As a second child in that situation I'd definitely feel like an afterthought!

WickedlyPetite · 07/04/2020 09:20

I've no strong feeling either way for these two, but I've noticed they always seem to make an "announcement" on the back of another Royal engagement/event - this time the Queens speech.

How do you pronounce Archewell, I take it the e is silent.

Booboostwo · 07/04/2020 09:21

Awful name, even worse timing.

How will they pronounce it? The Greek Arche doesn't match up at all with well. If they pronounce Arche to match the English pronunciation of Archie then it sounds really chavy.

DesdemonaDryEyes · 07/04/2020 09:21

And they couldn’t have done all that under the Umbrella of the DofE scheme or Prince’s Trust?

Tonyaster · 07/04/2020 09:22

Oh dear. They really do need to go away now.

WotnoPasta · 07/04/2020 09:23

Yawn. Also it’s naff.

TheFaerieQueene · 07/04/2020 09:23

My kindest response to this is that they are very tone deaf.

mallachy · 07/04/2020 09:24

I agree that they could have had a much more well supported philanthropic lifestyle as minor royals.

I think as a royal though you are quite restricted to what you are able to say and do and they wanted to be free. I think they thought they would be able to say and do what they like but not sure it's going to be as simple as that.

Ultimately I think they want privacy when it suits them but to be adored and supported by everyone when they decide to share/announce anything.

A real shame as I think people really liked them when they first got married.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/04/2020 09:30

They are a pair of clowns.

Sarahandco · 07/04/2020 09:49

Terrible name and now is the time to stop popping up in the media every day.

Samcro · 07/04/2020 09:51

I really wish mn hq would put all these threads into one. keep all the over invested in one thread.

Luc1nda · 07/04/2020 10:02

@mallachy you make some really good points. I can see that being able to speak out would be important, and not possible as a minor royal. Unfortunately, I think you're right about the fandom. I don't think they realise that a lot of the cheering isn't about personalities so much as the institution. (I may be wrong though, I'm no royalist and not the type to turn out on such an occasion).

I also feel for Megan that she sees all of these other people with almost personality cults and must wonder, "why can't I have this?" without seeing the hard work that went behind the fame of the Obamas, Oprah, Gibsons etc.

@Samcro I agree :)

Only if you want to go down the political route. Other interesting topics are still open to them.

mallachy · 07/04/2020 10:47

All that watching of parades and standing on the balcony. I'd be bored to tears!

I think they had an opportunity to modernise minor royalty but then the press were so negative they couldn't see a way out. They always seemed to pitch it slightly wrong (Meghan and Harry I mean) and were then attacked by both press and public. I don't think Meghan was ready for that and Harry loves her too much to see her vilified. I think their decision to exit was rash.

They may however be very popular in the states and be able to start again (I have no idea if this is true or not!).

TimeLady · 07/04/2020 10:49

Could it be pronounced like archetype perhaps?

ginghamstarfish · 07/04/2020 10:49

Who cares.

Lindy2 · 07/04/2020 10:50

These 2 are truly losing the plot. As if anyone really cares now.

TheVanguardSix · 07/04/2020 10:52

They felt compelled to share. Hmm

7Penguins · 07/04/2020 10:53

They are fighting tooth and nail to not sink into irrelevance. It’s not working.
