I am really not sure about this. They "felt compelled" to share how the name came about and to announce their new venture but they're not releasing details because they want the focus to remain on the Covid crisis?

This is a mess. Full of contradiction. I finally admit that they have lost their way.

'compelled' is just weird

Did they mean that The Sun was once again considering running a story, and they needed to get their version in first?

Given the gravity of the outbreak both here and in US, it is a bizarrely timed statement, and it is hard to see what was responsible for 'compelling' them

7Penguins · 07/04/2020 10:58

They were compelled by their self-importance to use self-aggrandising language.

Happygirl79 · 07/04/2020 10:59

Addicted to fame?

DangerCat01 · 07/04/2020 11:05

Oh god, I so wanted them to do well, but that article. It’s just terrible. They keep saying despite covid19 they felt compelled to tell us about this new gimmick. Just why? Terrible timing.

EthelMayFergus · 07/04/2020 11:08

They're just so desperate to be relevant that it's become embarrassing.

AutumnLeavesSeptember · 07/04/2020 11:10

Grim name! Cringeworthy. As is the whole Archie day fundraising thing.

sorrelli · 07/04/2020 11:17

Bad timing is an understatement.

If they were to do something charitably relevant for the pandemic and really make a difference now that would be worthwhile.

mallachy · 07/04/2020 11:21

I believe they announced it because the name had been leaked and they wanted to get in there first with an explanation.

TeaMilkNoSugarThanks · 07/04/2020 11:25

Given how stressful Harry found it being forced into a spotlight he didn't choose for himself, it's a bit odd that they're making so much about this name also referencing their son, Archie.

Plexie · 07/04/2020 11:39

I misread it as Achewell (ache well). How is "arche" supposed to be pronounced?

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/04/2020 11:46

How are they, 'focusing on the Covid 19,' pandemic Hmm yet decide to launch yet another charitable brand?

Personally, I think they have grossly over estimated their own self importance.

lunar1 · 07/04/2020 11:55

For two people who wanted privacy they sure do scream look at me loudly and constantly. They are an embarrassment to the royal family and there behaviour is becoming more inappropriate every day that goes on.

tenlittlecygnets · 07/04/2020 11:56

In response to the Telegraph, the duke and duchess said they were focusing their efforts on the coronavirus pandemic but felt “compelled” to reveal details of the venture.

“Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global Covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” the couple said.

What are they actually DOING to tackle covid-19, then?

They are increasingly pointless and irrelevent. What qualifications or skills do they have that would be remotely useful in a pandemic???

Attention-seeking twats.

Also, Archewell is a crap name. How do you pronounce it? Arch-well or Arch-ee-well?

Christmastree43 · 07/04/2020 12:06

Compelled 🤣 definitely by their own self importance

DarkMutterings · 07/04/2020 12:06

Like a PP I kinda wanted them to do well. Realise they had strengths like supporting ex service people, mental health, links to Africa etc and put in the time to get really respected in those fields and from there be successful. But they just lurch from poorly timed actions to poorly timed communications. It's mind blowing how poorly judged they can be.

SureTry · 07/04/2020 12:09

If or when they have another child are they going to name a charity after that one too? They really are disappointing and I say that a someone who actually liked them.

Armi · 07/04/2020 12:09

Tacky as hell and shit timing.

It’s sad. They could have done so much good if they had stayed put.

astrogirl99 · 07/04/2020 12:15

@TeaMilkNoSugarThanks I agree. Also I saw briefly that they started (via their social media bots or whatever it is high profile people with paid pr do!) an Archie day hashtag, I think to coincide with this announcement.

Waaa? How is this protecting your kid? It is literally using your own child for branding.

I don’t get it, I really don’t. I suspect that this is - deep down - all about money. It was never about hiding from the media.

Meghan Markle started making secret plans for a US foundation eight days after announcing she was pregnant

Her long-time US business manager Andrew Meyer registered two websites – archefoundation.com and archefoundation.org – on October 23, 2018. Five days later, an Instagram account called @archefoundation was created.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7929693/Meghan-Markle-started-making-secret-plans-foundation-eight-days-announcing-pregnancy.html

We have a chicken and egg situation: what came first - the baby or the foundation?

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/04/2020 12:18

Thing is, they both seem to have nice people skills when chatting to the proles. Pointed in the right direction and shunted along by the royal machine they would have done fine: lovely sheltered life, lots of fun, bit of boring stuff, slipping into complete luxury idleness (like Princess Margaret) as the years went on and the Cambridge kids got older.

I think that would have suited Harry. Meghan is in it for the attention though. She wants a big profile.

BrieAndChilli · 07/04/2020 12:18

I’d be really interested to know how America views them?
If they want to sacks off being royals and live the quiet family life like they originally said then most people would be fine with that. But they said that as the excuse to leave the royal family and then went on to do everything they can to cultivate a famous, celebrity, media fuelled new life which just makes them hypocrites and obvious to everyone they just want fame and fortune without the restrictions of being royal.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 07/04/2020 12:20

And yeah, using your kid for branding is despicable.

AwrightDoreenTakeAFuckinDayOff · 07/04/2020 12:20

Archewell is pronounced ‘ka-ching’

Froq · 07/04/2020 12:22

Grin Or ‘’mer-ching’.
