I am really not sure about this. They "felt compelled" to share how the name came about and to announce their new venture but they're not releasing details because they want the focus to remain on the Covid crisis?

This is a mess. Full of contradiction. I finally admit that they have lost their way.

They made the unfortunate error of not registering archewellfoundation.com - someone's bought it and redirected it to a YouTube video. I'm afraid I hooted in a very unladylike manner.

Re the money I think that the idea is that you do non charity stuff like speaking, guest editor, producing tv documentaries , voice overs because you have profile. You have social media which generates income from ads and website etc which generates income from merch and other direct products. Your content for these builds the relationship with your subscribers and can come from the paid work or lifestyle but also from the charity work or glamorous charity functions.... and this means that the charity gains but also you get profile so you can do more speaking etc etc and round you go again. I don't know if the numbers add up in this case though or even if that's the actual plan...it's just what I think I do hope they are $$$uccessful because that's the best outcome for everyone.

MrsGrindah · 07/04/2020 19:27

I don’t begrudge them being happy etc. None of us really knows what it DP feels like to be in the Royal Family. Meghan has a lot of critics ( I am one) which must be hard. BUT...I cannot get my head around the “ we need space , UK limelight is too intrusive , I must protect my wife and son etc” and then set up a lifestyle that is all about exposure. If they wanted a quiet life in time they could have it...a farm in Minnesota etc.. who in the real world sets up their own brand and charitable foundation whilst craving privacy? It’s the hypocrisy that is so unpalatable.

HeddaGarbled · 07/04/2020 19:32

That reads like they came up with the name for a possible future foundation before they named their son. Or have I misunderstood?

ChicCroissant · 07/04/2020 19:35

I also think they are being funded from the bank of dad (Charles) and hope they do make some money so they can eventually pay for themselves!

Their ability to mess up everything they do, considering the amount of expertise they could call on before doing anything is a wonder to behold. They have their own PR people and all the ones at the Palace.

5LeafPenguin · 07/04/2020 19:43

Oh on my list of funding streams?, I forgot to mention that the profile means that your pictures at events have value, so you make sure that you hold copyright on the released pictures.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 07/04/2020 19:51

The Duchess of Sussex was a round on pointless earlier. And although a fairly recent episode it still felt a bit off and irrelevant somehow

CoolCarrie · 07/04/2020 21:25

That round on Pointless was interesting as the contestants got both answers wrong; the name of their son and something else, can’t remember what it was , but it showed the lack of interest in them, and the contestants were in their 20s and 60s so more than one generation.

FizzAfterSix · 07/04/2020 21:33

When this peculiar Archwell venture was launched on Twitter there were hundreds of people gushing all over it, they call themselves the Sussex Squad.
Can they be for real or do you think their PR agency has opened lots of accounts for this purpose?
Many of these users just gush about them and don’t tweet about anything else.

Notmyrealname855 · 07/04/2020 22:02

At best they’re more of the same... expensive royals; at worst they’re fairly dumb hypocrites (hello constant private jets).

I really really looked forward to what they’d do, loved Suits and loved their engagement video and the wedding. But slowly I got confused and fatigued by their PR - like PR blitzes, and then telling the public off for being interested. It’s only been two years!

Does anyone else think a lot of this drama is H fighting some secret battle with the press? Too many bizarre announcements, pre-announcement announcements, denouncements, IG posts of constantly the two of them, him being frankly an arse I’m SA to the press (that he’s known for ages). I could name you maybe three of their charities - Smartworks (only because I’ve heard of them before), Invictus and the S one. So much for boosting the profile of their charities. Did they do a visit to Cheshire and this latest to London? Any others in the UK? (Started so well with a radio station visit to Brixton, where they came off so well... what happened to those days)

I don’t know what’s going on but I’m bored of it. They’re boring and quit the only decent platform they had.

And FYI, where’s their skin in the game? Why would I pay money to their foundation without them showing any investment?

Notmyrealname855 · 07/04/2020 22:03

And what the hell is this stupid name? What’s the link to Ancient Greece?

haveanapple · 07/04/2020 22:16

'Arche' is an Ancient Greek work meaning 'source of action', in the piece I read H&M said that it played a part in their choice of name for Archie.

I think it's a roundabout way of them trying to say (whether true or not) that what they do they do for him, and not because of Megan.....

Luc1nda · 07/04/2020 22:16

Can you just set up a “multimedia education empire”? Don't these things start small and niche rather than big and general? Unless your Bill Gates I guess.

LaMarschallin · 07/04/2020 22:33

Its Rachel so yeah it kind of is. Probably just a coincidence though

No, it really isn't.
That's not how anagrams work.

LimescaleCowboy · 07/04/2020 22:44

Archewell is an anagram of "We, Rachel"

LimescaleCowboy · 07/04/2020 22:46

Or maybe "We Rachel L"

It's like an easter treasure hunt

bleepbleepbla · 07/04/2020 22:53

This thread is giving me many many laughs 😂

LawrenceMarlow · 07/04/2020 22:56

Rachel Lew

Or Lew Rachel

Or
Rachel.
Lew.

Yes Harry kept royal patronages.

ArchePenguin · 07/04/2020 23:07

Let’s hope that Archie isn’t a colicky baby otherwise it will be Archenotsowell.

The thing is, they have named their baby after a public foundation or they have named their public foundation after their baby. Either way, they have now brought Archie himself into the public focus so they cannot complain when people discuss their now very public baby.

VaukaPinvhin · 07/04/2020 23:16

I think Meghan, and to a lesser extent Harry, have been hounded by the press for being preachy, hypocritical, patronising (messages on bananas ) and downright crass (complaining that she was existing while stood in the grounds of a rehabilitation centre for people who had lost limbs in landmine explosions). This was topped off with a healthy dose of outrage on behalf of HRH at how they implemented their exit plan, the stopover in Canada en route to LA and the sanctimonious crap spouted on their Instagram site and now this ridiculous Archewell thing. They’re shameless, self absorbed knuckleheads and have rightly been given a hard time. They have done nothing to earn any respect yet expect to be treated as special in every way.

ALeapOfFaith · 07/04/2020 23:22

That re-direct of archewellfoundation.com has given me a much needed laugh this evening Grin

PicturesOfCats · 07/04/2020 23:40

I don’t understand what’s happened?
How have they announced it before the newspaper?
I thought their Sussex royal insta was defunct now, have they got a new one then?

JudyCoolibar · 07/04/2020 23:49

Just think of the life they could have had as minor royals, pursuing any philanthropic endeavour that struck their fancy, living in the most beautiful of estates, indulging any interest or sport, surrounded by family for their baby, holidaying anywhere they like and a bit of pomp and ceremony a couple of times a year

-- having long-distances lenses focussed on them all the time, having their private lives, their clothes, every look on their faces constantly dissected, dealing with all that covert and overt racism ...

nellythenarwhal · 07/04/2020 23:50

Just remembered that I used to live in Ewell (Surrey)
