I am really not sure about this. They "felt compelled" to share how the name came about and to announce their new venture but they're not releasing details because they want the focus to remain on the Covid crisis?

This is a mess. Full of contradiction. I finally admit that they have lost their way.

Exactly Winnie it's just odd.

Why give an interview direct to the Telegraph? Why follow it up with another statement making it clear that they had no choice but to act ( a narrative that I've noticed before) and then repeating the story again.

I thought that HaM had instigated it themselves through a contact at the paper. At least that would have made sense (even if it was bad timing).

But if the Telegraph are agressively pursuing the Sussexs for brand exclusives...why? It's not like we're short of other news and from what I know of their main demographic I can't believe they are that interested.

Lordfrontpaw · 07/04/2020 16:19

Is Archie well? That’s nice.

No, we shouldn’t do any of the things that you list. The only thing we should do is keep working out whether having them still works for us, the citizens. If they bring in more than they take out, then they are worth it. The Queen's speech was an example of bringing in. There were many comments praising 'your Queen' from citizens of other countries, who said that she spoke to and for them too. That's worth quite a lot to us that someone else, such as a President, probably wouldn't be able to deliver. I didn't watch the speech, don't watch their weddings, engagement interviews, or couldn't really care less about anything much to do with them - apart from whether they are worth it or not.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 07/04/2020 16:30

@Wolfgirrl - great post.

Agree that they have lost much of the initial hope and goodwill they had when they were engaged. She had supporters who weren't keen on the RF, but thought she was getting harassed due to her race. I don't know, but Camilla was fairly vilified also.

The thing is in Los Angeles, they just can't compete. Charles doesn't have bottomless pockets and the lifestyle they are pursuing is A list. Most of the property they have lived in since they were married was not at market rate, (Nottingham Cottage, Frogmore House) and while they may have paid for some staff, it wasn't ever out of their own funds.

mallachy · 07/04/2020 16:37

Diana wasn't always popular, she worked hard at winning them over. Kate had a hard time as 'weighty Katie' or some other ridiculousness. I was delighted when they got married and particularly pleased that she wasn't white as the uk is no longer a white country. To start to have that reflected within the royal family was about time. I wanted it to work for them but have little time for them these days. I feel they are always patronising us and telling us what to do.

Jillyhilly · 07/04/2020 16:41

It’s an awful name and the whole thing is so utterly pointless. What skills do they have to run a large charitable enterprise? Who in their right mind would want to buy Archewell merch?

And all this moving. It can’t be good for them or Archie. I guess he’s young enough to be carted around all over the place but it must be pretty disorienting.

nellythenarwhal · 07/04/2020 16:53

I was rooting for them but they are massively taking the piss. This is not the time and place for self promotion. If they are genuine in their desire to help the word they need to follow the lead of people like Melinda and Bill
Gates/Michelle and Barack Obama and just get on with things without photographing everything on a fancy Instagram account and "Look at me!" stunts.

Where's their concern for the royals who are sick right now? Where is their concern for people who are struggling ?

PerpetualCircle · 07/04/2020 16:54

This announcement just demonstrates how out of touch they really are. I bet HRH is so done with them.

TimeLady · 07/04/2020 16:57

I wonder if they have kept the same nanny ie. Is the one who started off in Frogmore the same as the one in Canada and now LA? Can you take employees with you from country to country like that? I would have thought there were visa restrictions if it’s a long term stay,

If not, that’s going to be very unsettling for any child.

Randomword6 · 07/04/2020 17:01

Racism drove them out of the country. Maybe stop vicious hounding now?

Lordfrontpaw · 07/04/2020 17:03

I think they just wanted to do their own thing.

FromEden · 07/04/2020 17:03

So they ran to the press to "leak" the name and then blame the same press for "compelling " them to make a self centered statement at a time when thousands of people are dying, including, quite possibly, the leader of the UK. Of course its all the fault of the evil British press Hmm and once again its on the back of another royal announcement unrelated to them. The world can see through them at this stage, I can only imagine how upset members of the royal family are behind the scenes.

TheDogsMother · 07/04/2020 17:06

I have nothing against them but I heard this on the news and thought, so what ! It all seems so irrelevant with everything else that's going on at the moment.

InTheSummerhouse · 07/04/2020 17:09

Barley - I agree. I am generally in favour of the Queen and a small family to act as Head of State - preferable to a President as I am happiest with the politicians looking, behaving and being treated as the current job-holders only - and no more.

Also someone has to do all the banquets and visits and look after all our palaces and pictures!

maddiemookins16mum · 07/04/2020 17:24

As Princess Anne would say.....Naff.

Wolfgirrl · 07/04/2020 17:45

@InTheSummerhouse

I am happiest with the politicians looking, behaving and being treated as the current job-holders only - and no more.

What else would an elected President be? Hmm

FromEden · 07/04/2020 18:06

Archewell is an anagram of Megan's actual first name. Is that what its about really and not archie (which I suppose in itself is also kind of an anagram of her name too)

Tonyaster · 07/04/2020 18:09

Is it?

FannyCann · 07/04/2020 19:00

Anyway, surely the whole point of a charitable foundation is that it is largely funded and endowed from the excess wealth of a very wealthy person. Yet they seem to think they will make money from theirs?
Who is going to want to donate to a "charitable foundation" that shells out money to keep its founders in extreme luxury? Or have I missed something? I think I must have as surely some creative accounting will be required to stay within the law. Confused Confused.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 07/04/2020 19:04

In a nutshell FannyCann! Where is the money coming from, and where/who will it go to?

LaMarschallin · 07/04/2020 19:07

Tonyaster

Is it?

It's really not, is it?

Although I could quite believe they thought it was.

Viviennemary · 07/04/2020 19:07

I've never liked Meghan Markle and am not surprised it has all turned out to be a disaster. However, it could easily have gone the other way if they had behaved properly. I don't think there is any coming back for them. We shall see.

derxa · 07/04/2020 19:07

I think they must have cabin fever to make so many daft decisions. They're entertaining though. I'll give them that.

FromEden · 07/04/2020 19:17

Is it?

Its Rachel so yeah it kind of is. Probably just a coincidence though

totallydevoidofideas · 07/04/2020 19:18

Honestly, they seem a million miles away now from anything relevant or important.
