I just keep wondering why no one is saying to them that they cannot bicker over rights granted by the goodwill of the British people while flaunting their privilege and disdain for ordinary folk.

Well said packing ! Couldn't agree more.
H has no idea how the other half live, but I would of thought M , might have some idea what real life is like!

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2020 15:48

That's a good point about celebrity vs royalty. There are a lot of people who fail to make that distinction - namely, all those who reckon Prince Charles should duck his "turn" at being monarch and pass the crown directly to William. As if it's X Factor, ffs!

BahMooQuack · 22/02/2020 15:49

Oh and yes i agree with packings's sentence also. That is the crux of it. Their privilege relies on our goodwill. It was goodwill that could not be independently monetised.

As a PP said, they have lost their single selling point.

PelicanPie · 22/02/2020 15:51

I wonder what it would take for funding to be withdrawn altogether. That would sort them out. It will never happen of course, as they well know.

Yahboosnubsme · 22/02/2020 15:52

As much as I liked M initially when she appeared on the scene as I thought she was a breath of fresh air (I didn't know anything about her before as I'd never watched Suits), the fact that she has SO many broken relationships behind her, should have been a huge red flag to H. I imagine the RF probably tried to point this out, but it was never going to dissuade him from continuing.

You could argue that the crazies on her dads side are just that, however she seems to have been given some huge opportunities by them (I understand she lived with her dad from 11 to attend prestigious private school, uncle got her high profile internship), then something drastically went wrong meaning they don't speak.

Then her mum appears to have been her only blood relative at her wedding, surely they could have squeezed in a cousin or two and an aunt and uncle?

Her ex husband has also hinted that she ditched him very abruptly, and never looked back.

As we have seen from his antics in the press over the years since his mum died, H is headstrong and extremely impulsive. Any suggestion that M would not be a good match, would likely propel him closer to her.

With every #SussexRoyal statement, it appears H (as a member of the RF) is becoming less and less useful to M's status. Unless there is another pregnancy within the next year (and I do think there will be, soon), in his fragile mental health, I think he is absolutely terrified of losing Archie and M, and will do anything to make sure that doesn't happen. It makes for an unbalanced relationship in which one person (M) holds all the cards.

OVienna · 22/02/2020 15:52

I agree that the storm to the Monarchary itself had passed. HM firmly on the front foot, thanks to H&M and their website etc as much as anything else. They have wedged themselves firmly between a rock and a hard place.

I dont think they'd come off well from an Oprah/Ellen tell all now, if they were seriously thinking of risking that.

OVienna · 22/02/2020 15:54

Monarchy...

7Worfs · 22/02/2020 15:55

As if it's X Factor

Imagine the ratings though -

I’m a Royal, get me out of here
Come Cut ribbons with me
Mustique island

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 15:56

This whole affair is a monumental disaster. And it keeps getting worse. The damage it is doing to the Monarchy is breathtaking

I think the breath taking audacity of these two has swung things round for the RF over the last few weeks. I've even read comments on Youtube to the effect of PA having been shady but 'can't fault his loyalty'Hmm Then Kate's popularity has never been higher. And Sophie is actively being commented on again after almost being forgotten completely.

And now the Queen has redeemed her image as an Iron Queen with her hands tightly on the helm and totally committed to the preservation of the Monarchy, even if she's being effectively told how to proceed by her staff.

FinTutuola · 22/02/2020 16:00

Grin Having a very rare toddler free today so have rubbish TV on while I do some jobs. The continuity announcer on Channel 4, advertising (I think) A Place In The Sun, began her bit with ‘have they thrived, or are they struggling to survive?’

Made me laugh and think of you all! Maybe she is on this thread, and if not I am glad the ridicule is going mainstream

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 16:02

And now the Queen has redeemed her image as an Iron Queen with her hands tightly on the helm and totally committed to the preservation of the Monarchy, even if she's being effectively told how to proceed by her staff.

And demonstrates exactly why H&M were fools to ignore advice from experienced royal staff and go with their own advisers who seemingly have less knowledge of how the royal family operates than most of the British public. I wonder what position they would be in now had they taken official Palace advice instead.

didofido · 22/02/2020 16:02

From friends of M. 'Meghan said she's done with the drama and has no room in her life for naysayers, and the same goes for Harry.'

Didn't H&M say Nay first? HMQ simply followed thru'.
And as for who is drama Queen.....

Yahboosnubsme · 22/02/2020 16:05

Even if their funding was withdrawn tomorrow, most people could eke out a pretty good living on his inherited (and hopefully invested well) £34m from 1997.

The only trouble with that is H&M seem to want to live like billionaires, however would only have access to millions under the above model.

Champagne lifestyle on lambrini budget springs to mind. I doubt they'd risk it.

Dozer · 22/02/2020 16:06

Would be interested in facts and figures on other royals’ private paid work/businesses? Or semi-private, eg Duchy products.

V interested to see what happens about the security bills. Can see a case for SOME publicly-funded security given his high profile from being a prominent member of the Royal Family. But not 100% public funding, given their choice to live abroad and (if they do) seek to remain celebrities as private citizens.

Also interested in how they earn money. Not ethical if they earn a personal fortune doing “charitable” work. Although maybe other royals/slebs have done that? Don’t know about these things, but am interested.

Their DC will presumably be resident in North America in the event of a break up.

Dozer · 22/02/2020 16:08

£34m+ sounds like a reasonable “champagne budget” to me!

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 16:09

FinTutuola Grin

I do reckon a lot of people have been following the threads and that is why they have been allowed thus far. Some of the stuff printed has echos of what's posted here.

On the darkly funny side, if I was a relative of the great Maya Angelou I'd be considering some sort of action for using a great quote out of context and bringing it into negative association that isn't likely to go away.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 16:09

That’s funny Fin

I agree I’d like to know what the foreign press are saying & their celeb friends are thinking.

Wauden · 22/02/2020 16:15

Royal-R-Us, with the 'R' back to front like Toys-R-Us.

Yahboosnubsme · 22/02/2020 16:15

Billionaires live on a completely different planet though Dozer e.g. I doubt H&M could indefinitely rent the Canadian house they are currently living in if they only had a finite amount of money to spend. If it really does cost £50k a week, the whole lot would be spent in about 13 years (not including any other life expenses!).

Andylion · 22/02/2020 16:16

I'm a little disappointed that the new thread isn't called "H&M 19: The Saddening", as it brings to mind Moira's movie, "The Crows Have Eyes 3. The Crowening". (Any Schitt's Creek fans here?)

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 16:16

Just found this interesting piece about what Beatrice and Eugenie's jobs are:
www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/money/a23723800/princess-beatrice-princess-eugenie-jobs/

They get extra money from Andrew, but at least they actually work, and also do some royal duties.

Dozer · 22/02/2020 16:18

Like the Markle and Spencer brand a lot!

yoikes · 22/02/2020 16:19

"The crowening"!!!!
Love it.
(Massive SC fan here)
Caw!!!!!

Dozer · 22/02/2020 16:20

That article is interesting.

“ In addition to her career, Princess Beatrice serves as a patron to many nonprofits”

Would that be paid or unpaid?

Wauden · 22/02/2020 16:24
