The Vladimir tiara kind of loses something with glasses, doesn’t it?

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 21:08

@CanIHaveATiaraPlease I think I must be getting old when I look at things from the parents' point of view!

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 21:08

According to The Express (I know) it was the Vladimir

Lunde you are spot on.

There is a hierarchy of "tiaras" which why Camilla has the Delhi and the Boucheron.

Aside from the Vladimir HMQ's most impressive tiara (and my favourite) is the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland. Possibly because most people think of it as a crime rather than tiara. See picture.

HMQ wears it a lot in favour of her Crown or Diadem on state occasions - which is why people "miss" it as a tiara.

Upshot - if M was after the Vladimir it was never going to happen. Even Camilla and Catherine wouldn't be given leave to wear it (or the "Girls").

Dandy I would very much enjoy being Chief Assistant to the Tiara Manager! These London jewellery explorations sound great.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 21:12

GrinGrin sorry for the (funny) typo.

I meant crown not crime but maybe a Freudian slip!!

lynsey91 · 22/02/2020 21:13

I don't think it necessarily is all going to go wrong. I like them both. In fact I prefer them to Kate and William. If were going to meet one couple I would choose M&H.

I hope their marriage works but who knows. Kate and William could get divorced. There are certainly quite a lot of divorced in the Royal Family.

As to security. Well they have to have security and I don't begrudge the 10p or whatever I am likely paying. I know all the still living ex Prime Ministers have security and I guess their wives and children do to. I would imagine that is paid for by the taxpayer. I would rather pay for the Royal Family than the likes of Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and David Cameron

The tiara Meghan wore went perfectly with her dress. It’s exquisite imo

lilmishap · 22/02/2020 21:13

The only one I've seen mentioned alongside this story is the Vladimir(?) one!

Cheeky toerag if true!

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 21:17

I agree. It was beautiful (as was she) and perfectly complimented the simplicity of her dress and elegance of her veil.

To be honest I think it was the right choice regardless of what she may or may not have wanted.

lilmishap · 22/02/2020 21:18

So Catherine and Di wore it....I can imagine Meghan wanting some of that!

The "girls" is my favourite, it's so princessy! I really dislike the Russian Fringe one worn by HMQ on her wedding day. Apparently it snapped in the middle on the morning of the wedding and required an emergency repair. You'd think you'd just pick another one wouldn't you?!

Re. HMS and D-I-V-O-R-C-E, I could see it happening after the initial wave of interest starts to fade away. What better way to stay relevant than to part ways, play the doe-eyed victim in the press and then find new love with someone with an even higher profile? And when it happens it will happen quickly, cut and run style.

DandyRaven · 22/02/2020 21:20

DeRig love the typo and ADORE that tiara. Yes I thought it was a crown.

FizzyLimes · 22/02/2020 21:21

Tiaras are worn only by one person in their lifetime. ( lifetime loan)
Camilla has some fantastic ones because they used to belong to the Queen Mother.
If Meghan wanted the Vladimir, then it either shows her ignorance or downright cheek.
For the Kolokshnik; which Eugenie wore. E probably got first dibs, because apparently she didn’t get her choice of a spring wedding as she had to wait for Harry.

FizzyLimes · 22/02/2020 21:22

@lilimishap.
Those are photoshopped.
No one but the Queen has worn the Vladimir

lilmishap · 22/02/2020 21:24

What really irks me about this is...The Queen of England says you can pick from these tiaras, yet she thinks 'No I want that one' and when she is told No....it didn't end there and then?

How much chuzpah do you need to continue asking when you've been told No?

lilmishap · 22/02/2020 21:26

Are they photoshopped? Crikey you lot really know your jewels!

yolofish · 22/02/2020 21:30

I am seriously loving this tiara talk - all the stuff I didnt know I didnt know!

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 21:30

Those are photoshopped.
No one but the Queen has worn the Vladimir

^^

This.....but just to add "since she became Queen" obviously it's been worn by other (very senior) Royals prior to that.

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 21:34

Generally one person wears the tiara for the lifetime loan

It avoids 'unflattering' comparisons between people

There is a rumour that Beatrice and Eugenie picked their potential wedding tiaras donkeys years ago. I can imagine that being a 'coming of age' thing that could be done with a Granny and her Granddaughters

I'd love to get a peek in the vaults - apparently there are jewels that haven't been seen for 100+ years

The Queen is, in comparison to some royal houses, quite stingy with loaning jewels. Meghan should have been smart and played the game

She ended up with one of the better tiaras - it's blingy and has interchangeable pieces. It also has no comparisons as it's not been seen for decades.

GracefulHippo · 22/02/2020 21:34

Love all these tiaras, so incredibly beautiful [beautiful] in their own way. . I would have been over the moon to have been lent any of them 😍 .... I cannot believe arguing about WHICH

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 21:39

so why do we think she made Kate allegedly cry? Argument over the children? Or If it happened at all. I’m not sure..

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 21:40

In the photoshopped pic of Diana in the Vladimir you can just about see the outline of the Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara that she's actually wearing in that photo

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 21:43

so why do we think she made Kate allegedly cry? Argument over the children? Or If it happened at all. I’m not sure..

That's the one thing I think it's guaranteed to have happened.

For sure I think Kate cried, but she had only just given birth so she could have cried over anything.

I'm not a teary person generally, but for the first week over giving birth I cry at the drop of a hat

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 21:43

**not guaranteed to have happened!
