Great idea about the jewellery thread mrsc Do you want to set it up? Bah? Happy to do it myself. Just not sure where to put it - style & beauty?

SpinneyHill · 22/02/2020 19:38

Bloody hell, I've been down the Tiara rabbit hole...It's the Crown!

As in when I think of the Queen in a Crown, That's the piece I'm thinking of, not that I think they've named it wrong!

The dress Meghan wore for the evening do was also sensational. She looked fabulous. And getting into that vintage Aston Martin.
This is all so sad. And so unnecessary.

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2020 19:40

I mean, we all had such high hopes for Harry and his missus.
What went wrong? Sad

DandyRaven · 22/02/2020 19:42

I think MM looked absolutely sensational on her wedding day. Naturally pretty. And I love the tiara she wore, of all the ones I’ve seen the royal women in, that’s my favourite.

There shouldn’t be separate courts/households, IG accounts etc. It is so divisive, leading to comparisons, rivalries and obsessed fan bases that match any football team. Everyone involved should just be working for the Queen.

Excellent point Staggering. I don’t agree with the other suggestions in your post but completely agree with this.

7salmonswimming · 22/02/2020 19:56

MM is doing to the British public and the RF what she did with her family, her ex-husband and friends who didn’t further her goals/got in the way: she’s leaving them behind. Far from helping her, they’re getting in her way.

This is not empowerment of women, or feminism, or trailblazing ambition. This is ruthless, blind narcissism.

Always look after people on your way up, lest you meet them on your way down.

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 20:10

I really liked the tiara she wore on her wedding day. It was very elegant. I also loved the flowing veil. The dress, taking into account the fact it was couture and horrifically expensive, was disappointing. It creased in the middle.

PelicanPie · 22/02/2020 20:11

staggering
There has never been any indication the York girls or Zara and Peter ever wanted to be working Royals. I should think they are profoundly grateful not to have that burden but to be able to pursue private lives and have jobs.

Alsohuman · 22/02/2020 20:16

For me she was faultless on her wedding day. Both dresses were simple, classic and elegant, she looked beautiful and so happy. It’s incredibly sad that it’s all gone to shit so quickly.

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 20:26

That rings a bell. I think it was. There definitely was something about it having an interchangeable feature - ie being able to swap out stones to replace with other stones.

If it was the Vladimir then it was a massively cheeky request as it's so often worn by the Queen.

The only other one I can think of with emeralds that can be added is the Dehli Durbar, but that's massive and worn by Camilla

The only other potential emerald one I can think of, that would be unseen for years and have potentially unknown emeralds, could be Queen Victoria's emerald one that Prince Albert designed, but I don't think that is in the main royal collection anymore.

Guacamole · 22/02/2020 20:34

Just read their statement. Who is advising them? It’s awful. They’re making things so much worse for themselves.

StaggeringOn · 22/02/2020 20:36

PelicanPie
Sorry, don’t know how to do bold.
Years ago I remember that Beatrix went to Prince William to ask him how she could help for one of the Jubilees. He very much shrugged her off.

I think she did expect to be part of the working family.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 20:39

Meghan looked incredibly beautiful at the wedding. Everything was amazing - dress, veil, and the tiara she actually more looked perfect. It is terribly sad - everyone looked so happy on the day.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 20:45

Queen Victoria's Emerald Tiara was given by QV to her daughter and is now owned by the fourth Duke of Fife as her heir.

The family also inherited the Fife Tiara but it was "sold" back to the people (Government) to keep in trust as part of the last Duke's (third) inheritance settlement.

Frankly they are two of the most beautiful Tiara's (aside from the Vladimir, Delhi Duhbur , Greville, Lovers Knot and Girls of Great Britain) but they are not part of the Royal collection (unlike the ones in brackets).

OMG those tiaras! 😍😍😍😍😍

queenofarles · 22/02/2020 20:51

mrsC I think no one , not even Kate would try and break the ice, can you imagine how Awkward? What could they possibly say to each other?

"What’s the weather like in Vancouver?"

Why are they that bothered with the royal thing? It contradicts their breaking away and starting a fresh. I find it really Cheeky."we find the the RF so toxic and restricting but yea we’d still be calling call ourselves Royals."

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 20:53

Sorry just to add, so QV's emerald tiara couldn't have been the one M wanted as it wasn't part of what HMQ's collection.

So if there was a "tiff" about an emerald tiara is can only have been the over the Greville Emerald (which E wore) or the Vladimir (a favourite of HMQ) which has never been worn by anyone other than HMQ since she was crowned.

Unless anyone is aware of another emerald royal tiara?

Pretty sure that's it though (not that HMQ has loads more - just not emeralds).

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 20:55

Did a PP mention a thread running in AIBU today? I wanted to catch up on it but can't find it.

DeRigueurMortis · 22/02/2020 20:55

I also believe both QV's emerald and the Fife tiara can be taken off their frames and worn as a necklace.

Lunde · 22/02/2020 20:56

According to this article the Vladimir tiara is one of the Queen's personal favourites to wear herself. So it was probably considered a really cheeky request if Meghan demanded one of HMQ's personal favourites. I think that Meghan failed to appreciate the "hierarchy" of tiaras where the largest, most valuable ones are worn by HMQ and Camilla.
It does have a rather dramatic past with the rather "James Bond" manner that the tiara and jewels were smuggled out of Russian during the Russian revolution.

I think the nicest moments of that day were PC walking M up the aisle and after the wedding, him chatting warmly to Doria. He looked so pleased to see his son getting married and he clearly liked Meghan. I wonder what he's thinking now.

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 20:58

I saw Queen Victoria's emerald tiara at KP. It was stunning.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 20:59

Was thinking the same Eliza

Justmuddlingalong · 22/02/2020 21:00

What are the "rules" on curtseying in the royal family. I've had a look online but can't make head nor tail of it. Imagine I'm a dumpling and explain it to me please.

Rainbows8117 · 22/02/2020 21:02

I can't believe I actually missed Tiara-gate at the time. I heard about PH saying 'what Meghan wants Meghan gets' but thought it was to household staff but no idea to what specifically. It just beggars belief doesn't it. I mean, talk about first world problems!
