Maybe Meghan and Harry went slowly crackers under the strain of never being able to wear comfy old tracksuit bottoms in their own home just in case HM popped round to unsettle them.

I bet the dogs are missing HM, though. She'd definitely have a biscuit or two in her handbag for them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/02/2020 19:07

if you are not squeamish, then I highly recommend going to estate acutions

Sssshhhhh!!! ... no need to drive the prices up by spreading the idea!! Wink

Critically she failed to understand the difference between celebrity and royalty. Only now is she coming to realise that the Queen is a head of state and the royal family has a constitutional position which is real and powerful.

One is built on a strong, solid foundation with centuries of tradition behind it and with formidable staying power; the other is perched precariously on a bed of shifting sand.

No contest.

Pppppickupapenguin · 22/02/2020 19:07

how the royal forces but particularly the marines viewed some of Harry’s actions

The thing is though, they would all lay down their lives to protect Harry and his son. Even after the big kick in the teeth they got.

On another note, I watched the wedding special of the Windsors today. Loved the subtle digs knowing what we now know. New series starts next week, I wonder if the gloves will come off?

lyralalala · 22/02/2020 19:09

The tiara thing is interesting as the rumour was that Kate was given the choice of three to pick from

Sophie Wessex was given her, rubbish in comparison to many, wedding tiara

Fergie was given a new tiara and Diana wore the Spencer tiara

How did M decide she wanted one that wasn’t on offer? Had she and Harry looked up about the collection and decided on one?

With the constant mentions of Russian tiara I can’t help wondering if Meghan wanted either Queen Mary’s Russian Fringe (the one the Queen wore) or the Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara, which can be worn with emeralds. Both of those would be recognisable and “senior” to the tiara Kate was loaned

I am in the south!

Jewellery is the only thing I truly adore. I think every piece and every stone has its own personality and I feel that I am only a guardian for this moment in time.

My deepest love is art deco pieces. (I shall stop banging on..) :)

Bah I was going to ask what mrscampbell did but I was feeling shy Grin I’m in London. Can I come with you and Mrs C? I appreciate London is the SE not SW so that may not work. But I’d love going with you as I’d have little idea on my own.

AGnu · 22/02/2020 19:16

I can't keep up with these threads. Has anyone suggested they call their new not-a-foundation the "Harry & Meghan Sussex" n-a-f? I can see a beautiful line of HMS products - perhaps "HMS Archie", the kids range... Wait, HMS stands for something else?! Who knew?!

OVienna · 22/02/2020 19:17

I'll go to jewellery things!

yolofish · 22/02/2020 19:18

I love old jewellery too. Am currently wearing DM's wedding ring, her engagement ring and a ring her father gave her, which we thought was lost. And also a topaz that my father gave her. None are spectactular, but they have meaning.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 19:19

Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara,

That rings a bell. I think it was. There definitely was something about it having an interchangeable feature - ie being able to swap out stones to replace with other stones.

OVienna · 22/02/2020 19:19

Yolo I am the same.

Winterlife · 22/02/2020 19:19

I thought MM wanted the tiara Eugenie wore at her wedding?

I think a ruby tiara would have suited MM’s complexion best.

FizzyLimes · 22/02/2020 19:20

That next big opportunity could be an upcoming wealthy political star, or another prominent self-aggrandising opportunity. Being Step dad to an heir to the British throne is a big plus if you want to get instant limelight and kudos and are career savvy. PH should be aware of this.

That is a very interesting point.
The thing about being 6th in line to the throne and having a Royal blood was not meant to highlight Harry; but Archie. (7th in line and also of royal blood)
There’s probably a few eggs still frozen in Toronto to make a Half sibling to a royal.

Meghan has been stating her demands hidden in plain sight.
The quoted $100m as the SussexRoyal brand value is supposedly Meghan’s payoff amount in the case of a divorce.

salmon
I agree with every word of your post at 17.15. That’s it in a nutshell.

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 22/02/2020 19:21

I will take a flight specially to attend the auctions!

My engagement ring was originally my husband’s great grandmother’s, it is tradition that the eldest son gets it.

DandyRaven · 22/02/2020 19:22

Yes the Vladimir rings a bell, I think it was that.

AGnu yes someone suggested Harry & Meghan Sussex on the last thread and I said they could be HMS for short. I bet they had the same thought process, thinking of that name until they got to the initials. Grin

Alsohuman · 22/02/2020 19:22

I wear my mum’s wedding ring too, I love having part of her always with me.

mrscampbellblackagain · 22/02/2020 19:26

Whatever I think of MM - she looked sensational in her Stella wedding evening dress with the fantastic Diana aquamarine ring. Sure I have mentioned before by my fab hairdresser often does her hair and reports she is extremely lovely. But as a friend pointed out, who wouldn't be nice to their hairdresser Wink

Maybe we should set up a separate thread for jewellery obsessives [winke]

yolofish · 22/02/2020 19:27

yes it's quite special. On my third finger on left hand I have my wedding ring, my diamond half eternity ring (bought to replace my engagement ring which I lost at a swimming pool - fuckwit!) and then mum's wedding ring. Then same finger on other hand, the ring grandpa gave to mum (gold) and then mum's engagement ring (rosegold/diamonds). That's enough though! It is like having someone with you in a way .

yolofish · 22/02/2020 19:31

I remember on the day thinking that M looked absolutely amazing, the sheer simplicity of the dress and the drama of the veil, and that she outdid Kate. But then looking back, now the drama is playing out, I actually think Kate (and Pippa!) were better dressed. IMO Kate's dress was absolutely appropriate for the occasion and her future role. M's was stunning, bloody hard to carry off something that plain.

The tiara can be 'plain', with emeralds or pearls. It's stunning, no wonder MM had her eye on it. I would too!

StaggeringOn · 22/02/2020 19:36

Love the threads.

Just a few thoughts. I’m **no fan of H and M. But I think there have been long-term planning mistakes within the royal family which haven’t helped the present situation.

There shouldn’t be separate courts/households, IG accounts etc. It is so divisive, leading to comparisons, rivalries and obsessed fan bases that match any football team. Everyone involved should just be working for the Queen.

Charles’ plan to shrink the active royal family has also backfired. If he had allowed the York girls, and even Anne’s children to take up duties, there may not have been such intense press coverage on the remaining few.

The concentration of wealth in the hands of the eldest son must also be a cause of jealousies and bad feeling. We have seen that with Andrew, and now with Harry and Meghan.
