Harry did have the SAME advisors as the RF, the RF tried to avoid this.

He and Meghan have approached people, plotted and spent money to make this happen....It's no coincidence that they are forcing the RF to react in this way by ignoring the advice until it becomes the queen stating that the advice given will be followed..like it or not.

I want to know what Meghan thought she had in the way of leverage, It's not Archie

There are rumors that she may have attempted to, ahem, bully the RF with threats of 'tell all' interviews.....Clearly the Queen has weighed it up and thought "It can't be as bad as anything my sons have done!"

yolofish · 22/02/2020 18:19

There is a batshit AIBU thread. I am not going there. They are a lovely couple and it's all absolute fiiiiine. I might read it though.

yolofish · 22/02/2020 18:19

Oh ffs, "absolutely". Need more Wine

StSaulOfSnacks · 22/02/2020 18:20

Surely they've OVERestimated their cachet...

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2020 18:20

Americans are usually very patriotic and aware of their national allegiance to their country. So, whilst Meghan has made her views on Trump very clear, she must surely understand how inappropriate and disrespectful her compatriots would have found her marching into The White House and staring her intent to modernise/make changes.
So why would she think that we Brits would appreciate her doing the equivalent here.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 18:22

The tell-all interview is one of those weapons though that damages the thrower as well as the target IYSWIM. And once it's been used, it's gone. Something you might want to keep in reserve.

Also, thinking about what BG said, maybe there's a counter threat in play that if a tell-all interview takes place, the Sussex title and HRH could be removed altogether.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 22/02/2020 18:22

Well I’ve just been to listening to Ian Payne on LBC - quite supportive of the pair of them which I found interesting...

Waterandlemonjuice · 22/02/2020 18:25

The DM headline is “THE QUEEN DOESN'T OWN ‘ROYAL’” 😂😂

I mean Fgs, what ARE H&M thinking?

mateysmum · 22/02/2020 18:26

ButteryMuffin

'I'm going to revolutionise the whole thing' to 'they're not listening to me! That's it, I'm done' and then got on with the badly-thought-out exit plan.

I suspect these 3 things followed rapidly upon one another. Sometime between the engagement and the row over the wedding tiara when apparently HMQ put her foot down for the first time with MM.

yolofish · 22/02/2020 18:30

oh fuck, I posted...

StSaulOfSnacks · 22/02/2020 18:31

What happened with the tiara? Not heard about that.

mateysmum · 22/02/2020 18:36

Allegedly.... MM wanted to wear a particular tiara and for whatever reason was refused. PH allegedly got cross and said "what Meghan wants, Meghan gets". HMQ was not impressed and basically said (imagine queenly voice here), "no, Meghan gets what I give her".

No idea if it really is true but it was widely reported and in the light of subsequent events sounds plausible.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/02/2020 18:36

Harry did have the SAME advisors as the RF, the RF tried to avoid this

Absolutely, but that's "did" as in past tense; I agree the RF probably tried to avoid this, but whoever's advising Harry now is clearly on a very different page and sadly he appears to be listening this time

We obviously can't know what angst-ridden pillow talk Harry's gone in for since meeting his wife or what family confidences he's shared, but I'm another who expects it all to be rehashed on Oprah when the initial interest starts to fade

BahMooQuack · 22/02/2020 18:37

what happened with all the baubles? Some of them were quite historically significant baubles. (I admit an interest... my Mastermind subject is in jewellery. I am lucky enough to have several historical pieces in my own collection).

MissEliza · 22/02/2020 18:41

I read that the tiara MM wanted had already been bagsied by Eugenie, who naturally has precedence.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 18:43

What baubles were actually given to Meghan, as opposed to being loaned for her to wear for specific occasions? I assume it's been mainly pieces from Diana's collection?

meercat23 · 22/02/2020 18:44

MissEliza I wondered if it was the same tiara that Eugenie wore. I read that it was an emerald tiara and Eugenie wore an emerald tiara. I don't necessarily think it would be precedence in that situation but maybe just because Eugenie had already chosen?

CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2020 18:44

Re: the tiara, I thought it was because it had a "history" and links to the Russian dynasty, which was thought best avoided for some reason?
Not 100% sure of facts there, but it was something like that.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 18:45

The said Tiara was refused because the providence of the Tiara was politically sensitive.

yoikes · 22/02/2020 18:47

Interesting bbc article.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51567105

I've read all the books mentioned in it. I'd recommend them to anyone interested in UK history.

Butterymuffin · 22/02/2020 18:47

@MissEliza yes, that's what I remember. And since Eugenie had had to delay her own wedding to let them get in first - if I recall that correctly - it would be harsh to also swipe her chosen tiara.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 22/02/2020 18:48

Yes CallMeAngela that was it!

Apparently there are jewels within the Royal collection that have somewhat unfortunate associations and dodgy 'rights of ownership'
