A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

I am not diplomatic by nature. So I appreciate you noticing my life long efforts at self improvement, lol!

Roussette · 26/01/2020 14:36

The first post you saw? Yet you fail to mention that is also the only post you saw and it's nothing that hasn't been said here apart from the use of the word "scolds" which has stopped at the request of those offended by it. Report that one post if you're so offended by it. Might I point out too that you also have a separate thread running in chat where you're moaning about and criticising what's happened here and on the other threads. Shall I link for all to see?

When a poster says to another one that they are making it up and no one is talking about those that disagree, I am going to hop in, look and what do I see....
The term Scolds was stopped by MNHQ in a post I thought.. but no.

Feel free to link the other thread if you wish, maybe we might convert a few people!

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 14:36

I'm only going to answer this then will take advice and scroll on by!
I think your tone is often one of the most disrespectful on here, so your opening sentence seems hollow.

Seeing as I have only posted sporadically in the past 10 years , and only a handful of times on two threads in 2 days . Were is your prove of this?

Your pedantic posting and policing have driven
Posters away , talk about disrespectful!

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 14:36

Ha, thank you Wendy Grin

I will stay. There’s been some interesting posts this afternoon amongst scolds-gate. I shan’t emigrate to Canada just yet.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 14:37

@Butterymuffin

Meghan deserves her own agency, we don't know the full facts

By 'her own agency', do you mean 'the ability to share her own version of events'? And if/when she does that, will you regard that as 'the full facts', or as her version of events which will be just as partial and subjective as those from anyone else?

Sharing her own version wasn't what I had in mind, but I do think she should have that ability. I don't regard anyone's version as the full facts. My first degree was History, that's a good background for analysing sources. There have been so many 'close sources' with very shady provenance. If she does an interview, I would try to be open-minded.

I meant that a lot of people were criticising and attributing motivations to her actions in a way that seemed controlling.

  • How dare she refuse an offer to carry on acting? How dare she marry him knowing it was going to be tough? How dare she decide that was too much racism or abuse? How dare she quit so soon?

They were all legitimate decisions she deserves her own agency to make, without it being assumed it was for nefarious purposes. Same as it can't be assumed she is 100% angelic! I do try and see the best in people, until there is something a bit more concrete to show otherwise.

Encyclo · 26/01/2020 14:37

Then they get told she hates it here, the RF were unwelcoming, we're all racist etc etc - that's a bit of a slap in the face really.

She didn't actually say that though. Meghan has actually said very little!

Exactly Blue. The amount of words that have been put in MMs mouth is stunning

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 14:38

Blatantly lying is even more so.
Offensive and personal!

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 14:39

Do your own links if you think it would be helpful to your cause. I'm just happy for people to know it exists because for all the outrage that's been expressed we'd never have known that you were doing exactly the same as you're complaining about; much more of it and for far longer.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 14:42

@ilovejeffgoldblum

I gave you an example of childishness!

You don't fancy addressing the fact you blantantly lied then? No. Probably best to keep on scrolling. I will try to keep any communication as civil as possible.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 14:43

@DandyAndFine please stay! 👍
Normally everyone gets on famously!

Butterymuffin · 26/01/2020 14:43

a lot of people were criticising and attributing motivations to her actions in a way that seemed controlling.

None of that denies Meghan her own agency, her power to act and manage her own affairs and make her down decisions. Rather, it's people interpreting her actions and decisions in a particular way. Do you want to deny those people their agency in having and sharing those opinions? Also, how is that 'controlling' on their part?

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 14:51

There is a 'nice thread' but its not just rehashing the arguments from on here, and its not trying to coordinate anything. Nor is it the same posters on both threads like here.

There is only one post on the threadthat mentions scolds. But there are at least 2 conversations about posters on these threads, from p4 and p7 I think, that are exactly as I described in my previous post.

I brought it up, as the posters on here started making the same 'holier than thou' arguments they've been having over there. In the interests of avoiding a bunfight, would it not be better just to keep all that over there?

In terms of 'reporting' posts, the moderation hasn't given me much faith on these 14 threads. I would have thought the sneaky policing, and TAT aspects would be against the guidelines but the comments they been allowed on here about MM and other posters have surprised me. Even when posts are deleted, people skew the warnings or start pm'ing them to each other.

So, I will stick to the thread. Post as objectively as I can, and challenge in the spirit of debate when I disagree!

It seems controlling as they are denying her agency if they are saying she didn't have a right to make those decisions her way, which some but not all are. They think they know better whether she should have put up with the abuse and how long for. Or they think she was wrong to have turned down any (potential) offer to keep acting.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 15:01

Do we know yet what pc will call himself if and when he becomes king? Find it interesting that they change names 🤔

MrsDoubtTried · 26/01/2020 15:03

I think your tone is often one of the most disrespectful on here, so your opening sentence seems hollow.

Have never even noticed the poster you are attacking, before.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 15:04

There was talk about him calling himself George; prior to the birth of Prince George.
I think King Charles III is fine

Froq · 26/01/2020 15:04

It’s getting difficult to scroll over these “discussions”.

Meg and her friend have been putting plans in place to leave since a few days after her pregnancy announcement, eg Registering trademarks and companies.

I wonder how much Harry was aware of.

7Worfs · 26/01/2020 15:04

Probably not Edward Crown Smile
I’d quite like it if he remains Charles

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 15:14

ok, I'm not really sure what people want.

I think some want to preserve the bubble you have built over 14 threads. Whereas there has been a sense of community I'm sure, there has also been some who've formed a very exclusionary group.

I have been expressing my views. On topic. As politely as I can. I've tried to recognise posters points I agree with more, while still discussing in the way I know how. Which will involve challenging points I disagree with.

I will continue to do this, I don't think I shouldn't be allowed to participate because I don't agree with the majority. I would love it if you could keep your accusations and insults about me, on the other thread but I'll do my best to ignore them here too. My posts will stick out as my perspective is in the minority here. But I don't think other perspectives should be silenced. And I don't think its a minority view in RL outside these threads.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 15:15

Yes I'd quite like another Charles monarch. The first two were very colourful. I'd like another.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 15:15

RF are giving H&M the option to return to the U.K. without doing any more engagements if the media scrutiny in Canada gets to be too much and they change their minds.
(I’m interpreting this as Harry changing his mind)
They would definitely be more protected at Windsor than living on Vancouver Island.

They are definitely trying to learn from the mistakes made by Diana and her lack of protection prior to her death.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 15:16

Wouldn't it be fun, if just for a change he went for Ralph or bob ? 😀

7Worfs · 26/01/2020 15:19

Wendy thanks for the prompt, I’ll read up on the Charles’ later.

Curly that’s really nice, would be great for them to return, but after that big steaming exit they’d probably see it as admitting defeat.
