A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

Mrs DoubtTried, I'm glad you picked up on that, it did make be smile.

Roussette · 26/01/2020 14:17

Like Rocking I popped on there too and one of the first posts I saw...

"The Scolds are so annoying. There is no criticism; just balanced commentary.
Honestly they have nothing better to do but fuck up threads, so that you lose the flow.
Shame that you can’t hide posts by individuals.

Where’s those Trump threads. I might spam them with Cat pictures and recipes"

So please don't insinuate Rocking is making it up.

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:18

It doesn't look like that going into seclusion and writing a novel is the plan.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/01/2020 14:19

I might need to pop over to the other thread. They're spot on

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:19

There is often comment on mn about a hide button.

I'd quite like a like button.

mrscampbellblackagain · 26/01/2020 14:21

I think security is fine if they stayed in the UK. But the costs for overseas security are very very expensive. The tony Blair model of funding sounds fair to me.

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:21

I do think the key concept that causes scepticism is the trading off royal connections.

LydiaLangwish · 26/01/2020 14:21

Just popping in to post a snippet from this week's Private Eye which is a bumper issue. 😂

Not the expectation of some security provision.

LydiaLangwish · 26/01/2020 14:22

Are you OK Tom?
Anyone would think they'd been lurking on Mumsnet!

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:23

Yes mrscampbell,

That is unfair on UK based personnel.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 14:24

@ilovejeffgoldblum

I just went back to check because you seemed so sure! But yep, p4 onwards, especially p7 I think.

Finishing posts with "sad!" etc is childish to me. Blatantly lying is even more so.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 14:25

The first post you saw? Yet you fail to mention that is also the only post you saw and it's nothing that hasn't been said here apart from the use of the word "scolds" which has stopped at the request of those offended by it. Report that one post if you're so offended by it. Might I point out too that you also have a separate thread running in chat where you're moaning about and criticising what's happened here and on the other threads. Shall I link for all to see?

The double standards, exaggerations and hypocrisy beggars belief.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 14:25

God these threads!
If you’re not either overtly criticising or defending MM, you’re ignored. Or at least I seem to be. And that’s ok, but I’m not enjoying reading all the pointed arguing and snippy comments.

So I’ll leave you to it.

Bluerussian · 26/01/2020 14:26

Then they get told she hates it here, the RF were unwelcoming, we're all racist etc etc - that's a bit of a slap in the face really.

She didn't actually say that though. Meghan has actually said very little!

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:28

Dandy this is why I'd like a like button.

I've likely read your posts and nodded!

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 14:28

With respect Roussette , you have taken one post from the first page , poster was ignored and if you had scrolled through you would see that was it!
Kate please do discussing cheese dishes at the mo!
Might be boring!

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 14:29

I think a "like" button would really improve this forum tbh.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/01/2020 14:29

Indeed!

katiegoestoaldi · 26/01/2020 14:29

Oops!

The double standards, exaggerations and hypocrisy beggars belief.

Indeed!

Butterymuffin · 26/01/2020 14:30

I wouldn't wish to see them without security as they are genuine targets for extremists / disturbed people. At the moment there is no real alternative to that continued to be funded by the UK government /Royals. However there's a lot of complex maths to be done about the future funding of security costs if/when they start to bring in money from their work as private individuals. While their status as targets comes largely from their history as members of the RF so they shouldn't have to bear the entire financial burden of that, I wouldn't be comfortable either with them making millions from speeches, 'collaborations' etc, for that all then to go towards supporting their lifestyle in Canada/the USA, while the Duchy of Cornwall is still subsiding the security costs. But it's going to be a challenge to work out what's fair and reasonable.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 14:30

Thanks Juliet

A very charming and diplomatic answer. You should be the spokesperson for all the Royals, be they in the UK or Canada. Wink

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 26/01/2020 14:31

Oh do stay DandyAndFine. I'll be looking out for you now 👀 Grin

JulietJanuary · 26/01/2020 14:31

Dandy , yes just scrolled back and I was nodding vigorously.

Butterymuffin · 26/01/2020 14:33

Dandy stick around and bulk up the middle ground!
