A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

Wendy - x1000 agree with you.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 11:39

There was concern expressed for Diana earlier in the thread, and previous threads, based on the photo of her seeming to cry back in the '80s on a royal tour. I'm still not convinced about the photo itself, but I do think she really suffered, partly due to her role in the RF, and press scrutiny. It's great people care about this. But then it does make the constant "are you ok?" posts over the course of these threads, cruel and hollow.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 11:40

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling very incitefull and your logic is flawless , it does ring true doesn't it.

"He's worked for this 'firm' his whole life.'
No. He hasn't...as I explained in a previous post.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 11:41

I'm so so sorry , I forgot to ask if everyone was ok 👍
Mental health is very important!

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 11:44

I'm so not okay today. I'm surviving but not thriving. Thank you for asking ilovejeffgoldblum because not many do.

simpers off.

katiegoestoaldi · 26/01/2020 11:45

Totally agree with you Wendy

OVienna · 26/01/2020 11:45

Is there another poster that has combined mine and Katie's user names? Looking at an @ by perditio.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 11:46

Your very welcome not , I ask because I really care!

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 11:48

Just in case you think otherwise rockingchaircandle I did not see your last post before I responded to ilovejeff.

BertsFriend · 26/01/2020 11:55

I called in to see my mum yesterday; she's a huge royal fan. She was very supportive of H & M and even had friends round to watch the wedding, and made a bit of an occasion of it with snacks and drinks. I asked her yesterday what she thought and she said none of them (her friends) at the bridge club could believe what Harry's done and how easily he 'had the wool pulled over his eyes'. These are women of about 70, the type that organise church fetes and WI meetings. They are upbeat, cheerful, don't look for negativity and my mum has never read The Daily Mail. I think a lot of people like my mum feel let down by Harry.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 11:56

@ilovejeffgoldblum

"How you can say this! His life has been one of privilege and splender ."

None of my points disagree with the fact he has lived a life of privilege. I agree! But, that doesn't negate my points, you haven't addressed them.

@JulietJanuary

"People get lots of transferable skills in the armed forces. Also did H not get hugely specialised training to fly helicopters? Lucky lad."

Agreed, I wouldn't mind a pilot's licence! You're right, yes, people get transferable skills in the army but I think it's more that his training as a royal will make getting and doing civilian jobs difficult. Being a royal can be a very hollow privilege, I'm very glad not to have been born into the house of Windsor.

Perhaps a divorce settlement would be a better analogy. But a forced marriage, for most of his life.

It seems a pretty cruel institution if you do want to break away. People are getting less inclined to want to foot the bill for royals (I'm one of them in general!) and it will probably get worse once the Queen dies. I really hope they're thinking of a better plan for the next generation.

OVienna · 26/01/2020 12:05

Maybe she doesn't feel like addressing them though.

You're just another poster on this thread Rocking. People can't be compelled to reply to your points and questions. I have given advice on occasions with sometimes personal examples and been completely ignored by the OP. That is their right and my decision to post.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 12:05

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling

I see your point here, it's a very measured account of the alternative perspective to mine. I think we differ, like you say because we don't see this bit in the same way

"the dramatic way it's been done and the reasons given - 'racism', 'press intrusion', 'uk people didn't support me' is manipulation on a massive scale."

I think there was racism and press intrusion (not really sure about UK support) and therefore don't see it as manipulation, and don't agree with the rest of your perspective. But it's helpful to see the other perspective.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 12:10

"Maybe she doesn't feel like addressing them though."

I agree, no compulsion from me! She was replying to me with a point that didn't refute mine. That's why I said she hadn't addressed my points, to show that I didn't believe her point was relevant to my argument.

It really really wasn't anything more than that, and it's something I would and have done in a discussion with anyone including face to face, with friends etc.

I think it does come down to different discussion styles as discussed earlier. I'm happy with mine though.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 26/01/2020 12:11

Maybe Harry could take a leaf out of William's book and work for an air ambulance service. William gave his salary to charity but Harry could, in his current circumstances, hold onto his.

Might have to downsize from the Vancouver island villa though ...

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 12:12

Thank you o
Rocking I didn't address your points because
1 this is an informal chat forum , I'm not giving a dissertation!
2 I disagree with them 💩
3 my opinion is as valid as everyone else's.

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 12:14

Also I didn't tag you or address you I simply took umbrage at some of your post!

BobLobLawLLB · 26/01/2020 12:15

Why can't H&M stay at Highgrove whilst in the UK? It is already set up with adequate security measures. Meghan will probably never stay (if at all) for longer that a few days.

It would be a nice family setting for Archie, as Harry grew up at Highgrove and Frogmore could be returned to reduce the ongoing negative press.

Encyclo · 26/01/2020 12:18

To be fair, even Camilla doesn't live at Highgrove 😂. Charles very much runs that place specific to his needs. I think Charles might resist the invasion of the Sussex's

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 12:19

Sounds like a good point about H&M staying at Highgrove. I wonder what they would then use Frogmore Cottage for? Beatrice and her family when they marry?

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 12:20

Does Camilla live full time at her 'bolt hole' - the home she lived in before marrying Charles?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 12:22

Yes good point about Highgrove!

Wendy agree with your post 100 %

ilovejeffgoldblum · 26/01/2020 12:23

Highgrove does sound ideal , pc can't object to his son staying surely ?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 12:24

How many of us would keep a whole huge house empty nearly all year , apart from when Harry might decide to stay there for a few days every few months. (If that)
It will need to be kept heated and cleaned even though it's empty.
