So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

I really don’t think Meghan will be at any future Royal events.

Parker231 · 14/01/2020 10:51

It was time to reduce the size of the RF. Sweden has done the same recently.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 14/01/2020 10:53

@GlitchStitch

Yes, I know it's Littlejohn and the DM but this article really made me laugh.
It made me laugh too. Fab that HMQ read the news on her iPad and not TV.

Whatever people say about the DM, they are correct most of the time and......lots on MN slag off the DM yet quite often quote it. (I'm not referring to you here, @GlitchStitch, just commenting in general).

Parker231 · 14/01/2020 10:55

@SunsetBoulevard3 - why do you think William has lost his brother and nephew? The statement yesterday said the Sussex would be spending part of their time in the UK.

We live in London, my family in Belgium and DH’s in the US and Canada. My DT’s have never lived in the same country as their grandparents and cousins but see each other regularly and have an excellent relationship.

Moomin8 · 14/01/2020 10:56

@Gemm83 - the Queen always looks miserable like that. It’s just a coincidence that Meghan is in her line of view Grin

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 10:56

I don't think Meghan will be back in the UK anytime soon, and I don't think Archie will be allowed either.

TheMustressMhor · 14/01/2020 10:57

She really has nothing to say beyond ‘woke’ posturing

Nope.

And she seems to change her religion as often as she changes the continent in which she lives.

MurrayTheMonk · 14/01/2020 10:58

£500,000 a speech?
I can't get my head round that.

I think they'll do well in Cananda and America and be well loved in the celebrity sense of the word actually.

I lived in Canada for a bit and was practically treated like royalty just by way of being British. They love us over there. They are obsessed with our soaps for example-they do a big soap convention thing every year and have all the Corrie and EastEnders people over and they get mobbed-it's mad! I can only imagine how wild they will go for a bona fide Prince-wether he's out of favour over here or not!

SouthWestmom · 14/01/2020 10:59

@diddl

It is, I'm just wondering if it's an in joke (don't read the mail or many print papers except i) or what

MissKittyBeaudelais · 14/01/2020 11:00

I totally object to paying anything toward their security when the don’t even live here. They want to be financially independent? Well, it starts here, loves! 😡
FFS, we’ve people living (and dying) on the streets; children lying on coats on the floor in hospital. My mum at 79 had to go on a ward with MRSA and Norovirus because it was the only bed available...she caught the infection and died after 2 weeks, having gone in for tests and rehab.

They’re wingers. They need a crash course in “life without handouts”.

DeeZastris · 14/01/2020 11:01

Tbh the celebrity friends have probably been horrified that they were willing to dish the dirt on the RF. how could they let H & M into their inner circle as they might dish the diet on them?

Wheresthebeach · 14/01/2020 11:01

I read somewhere that Charles paid out of his, admittedly hefty pockets, for some of Frogmore, and the wedding. So he's bent over backwards to make sure 'loads of money' was spent on them both and that they got an amazing lifestyle.

I get that the Queen must be hurt, but if Charles really has been doing all this extra support its a real kick in the teeth to him as well. My impression was that he was delighted to walk Meighan down the aisle.

They've behaved shockingly, as long as we don't foot the bill, then my attitude is 'good riddance'. Sadly for sure, but they need to be gone now.

Speeches don't need to dish the dirt. Some amusing stories of what life is really like in the royal family will do it. Stories that don't dish any dirt but make people feel they have been given an insider view.

I don’t think the Queen will be happy with «amusing anecdotes» about the RF being sold for £500k. They’ll be moving into Paul Burrell territory.

If it can be bought; it loses its appeal.

Harry will always be a Prince and he has his family to come back to. The Queen has made it very clear.

Meghan will have no justification to come back. «Oh I’ve changed my mind; you’re not all racists and the press aren’t vile after all» ( please can I have my freebies back)

I don’t think she has thought through how the undignified, disrespectful and grabby manner of their departure is already devaluing their appeal.

I wouldn’t be surprised; if Harry decides to spend his time between the UK & Africa once this disaster all pans out.
Archie could still board.
All of the Spencer cousins; Chelsy Davy etc grew up in Africa but boarded in British public schools.

Oh come on a very rich father paying for part of the cost of his son's wedding and giving them some money to help with furnishing and renovation of their new home, is not bending over backwards. It is what I would expect any loving parent with this kind of income to do.

karencantobe · 14/01/2020 11:06

@CurlyWurlyTwirly Maybe you are right. The Queen would not be happy with amusing anecdotes but is fine with her son being an alleged sex offender.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 14/01/2020 11:06

According to one paper, we should have spotted that the couple were intending to do a Captain Oates when they took both their dogs to Canada for their six-week Christmas holiday

"Do a Captain Oates"

Grin
NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 14/01/2020 11:07

I would be very surprised if Meghan attends Princess Beatrice's wedding. Not sure if Harry will but, if he does, I think he'll be on his own. Incidentally that is another thing their selfishness has prevented - the announcement of the wedding date was supposed to be have been made around last week.

It seems H&M have a knack of spoiling others' special occasions with their news. (Announcing pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding, announcing leaving full time royals work day before Kate's birthday and delaying the announcement of Beatrice's wedding date and details). It's just uncanny.

SophiaLarsen · 14/01/2020 11:07

I think that the wording of HM's statement was that the proposed 2 centre arrangement would be transitional which implies to me that H&M's aim is to live full time in North America. I imagine then the plan would be to see what if any role on behalf of the RF one or both of them could undertake. And perhaps also see how they comport themselves during the transition...

Perhaps HM is hoping she'll have shuffled off before they fully commit to being overseas.

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 11:09

Is Serena's husband sniping at Meghan then? I thought they were friends.

Butterymuffin · 14/01/2020 11:11

£500,000 a speech?I can't get my head round that.
The crucial bit, which I overlooked myself earlier, is, 'UP TO £500,000'. Not quite the same.
On that basis, I'm paid up to £500,000 a year...

Re Charles forking out lots to subsidise them - there is the point that what else does he have to spend it on? Not like he has a mortgage or credit card bills. It's whether the public get annoyed that Duchy of Cornwall money is being given to fund a celebrity lifestyle. But it seems to have become accepted that that money is Charles's to use.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 14/01/2020 11:12

There’s no way Meghan will want Archie at a boarding school in England. She obviously despises the Uk and probably despises the class system too. Although happy enough to profit from it when it suited her.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 14/01/2020 11:12

They’ll give him a made up role in Canada. Like Governor or some such. That way, they can justify the British tax payer forking out for security. I wish they’d just leave. Full stop. Get on with going it alone.

Dozer · 14/01/2020 11:12

If Harry’s DC become resident in the US, which seems probable, the DC won’t be returning to the UK other than for brief trips. If he’s a decent father he’ll stay there for much of his time too, even in the event of divorce.

It’d be the same the other way round if the DC was/were resident here and Meghan ideally wished to move abroad in the event of divorce.

Butterymuffin · 14/01/2020 11:14

Yes, I don't like Little John but he's nailed it with 'do a Captain Oates'. That's the skill of popular journalism.
