So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

"@karencantobe"

Oh come on a very rich father paying for part of the cost of his son's wedding and giving them some money to help with furnishing and renovation of their new home, is not bending over backwards. It is what I would expect any loving parent with this kind of income to do.
Yes, it is fairly normal for a parent to do these things if they have the money to do so but it does sound as if Charles has gone above and beyond. It is reported that he hasn't just provided £2.6m from the Duchy of Cornwall but has spent "millions" on their lavish lifestyle out of love. No wonder PC is hurt. He's tried to accommodate them and still they sod off abroad. He's been truly mugged off.

TheMustressMhor · 14/01/2020 11:14

I was really surprised when I watched Newsnight yesterday, and Dickie Arbiter said that Harry only had one engagement to carry out until May.

I thought Harry was (until this blew up) a working royal?

One engagement in six months doesn't sound like much work to me.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 14/01/2020 11:15

And what if the Frogmore “cottage”? I suppose because they’ll have some time here/some time there, they get to keep their free home on the estate. Hardly “financial independence” is it?

I’m bitter. Didn’t used to be. But the UK is in real dire straits now and this is just bullshit.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 14/01/2020 11:16

@Parker231
They are already estranged. I don’t believe Harry will be over here much from now on. If he is over I doubt he’ll be heading over for a chat with his brother, and Archie will stay in the US. Can’t see the Cambridge’s going to stay with they either. The cousins will probably barely know each other.

CarpeSocolatum · 14/01/2020 11:17

Well, I still hope to see Meghan play herself in The Crown. I can dream Wink
They seriously cannot win whatever they do. If she returned to acting or voiceovers to pay the security bill then she's bringing the royal name down. If they do keynote speeches then she's cashing in. If they do charity work then they are also slated. If she flogs stuff she's Fergie mark II.
What the hell do you expect her to do? I really feel for her. She's in a no-win situation and always has been.

Fraggot · 14/01/2020 11:18

I wouldn't go to the foot of my stairs to listen to anything these two might have to say

karencantobe · 14/01/2020 11:19

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite So because a father pays for things that means his adult kids are not allowed to make decisions about their own life? That he has bought them and they have to do what he wants?

CarpeSocolatum · 14/01/2020 11:19

As for estrangement some of you should visit the Stately Homes threads. In Harry's case this is not You used to take us to Stately Homes, rather I was brought up in a Stately Home.
But seriously, some of you have no bloody idea.

karencantobe · 14/01/2020 11:23

The truth is the whole RF is dysfunctional.

hopeishere · 14/01/2020 11:24

It sounds like his diary was deliberately kept free.

The other thing is that their desire have actually increased scrutiny on W&K. Never seen photos of them doing the school run and now I've seen them two days in a row

fallen121 · 14/01/2020 11:25

They’ll give him a made up role in Canada. Like Governor or some such. That way, they can justify the British tax payer forking out for security.

Governor of Canada pays £233k per annum. That wouldn't even keep Meghan in court shoes. And the post doesn't fall vacant until 2022. Can't see Meghan as wife of Governor. Not glamorous enough.

As Governor of Canada Harry would be precluded from touting himself for cash because of conflict of interest/political considerations. I suppose Meghan could launch her "Wife of a Governor" perfume. Bit tacky though.

AuntieStella · 14/01/2020 11:26

What I've been taking from my forays into these threads is that MM has not been treated worse by the press than the others who have married in to the senior ranks of the Royal Family since the 1980s, plus some born into it.

But Prince Harry is different. He's not going to put up and shut up. He thinks it's dreadful, and he's right.

The public agreed, in the aftermath of his mother's death (the press did not run her off the road, but the actions of the vehicles following her that night was noted as a factor in her death in the Coroner's verdict) and for a while intrusion ebbed. It's back, he's seen it, he still thinks it's wrong and wants to move away from it. Good on him.

Canada might suit him well.

He was wrong, I think, in the way he tried to force the Palace's hand in timing. But right to be clear that this was non-negotiable in the bigger picture. I hope the further work needed (on immigration status, nationality, funding, taxes and security) can proceed smoothly and without much delay. So that in a year or two we'll have forgotten what all the fuss was about.

I hope they do have another child, Harry was always clear about his desire to be a father. I expect Canada wouid be a fabulous place to bring up children (with a long Scottish holiday every year, and alternate Christmases at Sandringham)

TheBrokenPagoda · 14/01/2020 11:26

They model themselves on the Obamas. This says it all. The Obamas have done the graft. They have worked as lawyers. Then they worked in their community, at grassroots level as complete unknowns. They read books, they wrote books - they lectured in universities. It was only after all that graft that Barrack entered politics - where he continued to slowly work his way up. They went on the campaign trail. He then held the highest office in the world for eight years. She supported him every step of the way. It was AFTER all that they launched their Foundation and got the book deals.

The sheer arrogance to think they can achieve the same recognition. It beggars belief.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 14/01/2020 11:26

@CarpeSocolatum
Well, she could use some of their existing wealth to retrain! Become a yoga teacher, a social worker a human rights lawyer? The possibilities are endless. Do something genuinely decent with her life.

Dozer · 14/01/2020 11:26

Hard to justify publicly funded positions, especially given Andrew’s trade positions over the years.

TheMustressMhor · 14/01/2020 11:26

She's in a no-win situation and always has been

Not true. Most of the Great British Public were on her side until she made it clear that she couldn't be bothered to carry out the royal duties expected of her.

Her name is Mud now. I cannot see her coming back from this debacle.

People do not appreciate seeing their Queen being so disrespected.

Meghan woefully misjudged her audience this time.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 14/01/2020 11:27

@TheBrokenPagoda
Exactly. That sums it all up. Amal is also a woman doing genuine work.

kirinm · 14/01/2020 11:29

I love how you lot think you know everything about him, her and the family when everything you claim to know is from the papers. And now someone suggesting she needs a "kick in the pants". Lovely.

bohemia14 · 14/01/2020 11:29

I just don't understand why they've done this. They had everything at their feet and as the new generation of the Royal family were a golden couple. I've just looked again at the video of their highlights of last year and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces and their joy and their family members joy at welcoming a new baby. They wanted for nothing. They really want more money? It makes no sense.

EcocabbyRickShaw · 14/01/2020 11:30

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite

"t seems H&M have a knack of spoiling others' special occasions with their news. (Announcing pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding, announcing leaving full time royals work day before Kate's birthday and delaying the announcement of Beatrice's wedding date and details). It's just uncanny."

Totally agree. It's almost like they do it on purpose Angry

Weirdwonders · 14/01/2020 11:31

Why is she in a ‘no-win’ situation, Carpe? She married into the BRF, the whole ethos of which is intended to be public service, not celebrity or a money making opportunity. She could just have got on with doing what the role of the Duchess of Sussex actually entails.

MissKittyBeaudelais · 14/01/2020 11:31

They will not be “allowed” to get “jobs” or trade on royal connections. Too tacky. Look what happened with Sarah, Duchess or York and Edward’s wife Sophie (?) flogging the Firm for their own benefit. The Governor role gives them a property and him, an official role. Edward VIII was given Governor of the Bahamas.

So, Harry will still belong to The Firm and we’ll still get to support them.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 14/01/2020 11:32

@karencantobe

The Queen would not be happy with amusing anecdotes but is fine with her son being an alleged sex offender.
I'm pretty sure HMQ would not be happy if her son were proven to be a sex offender. Don't disrespect her for believing her son, who she must think she knows well. How many mothers first instinct would be to believe their sons? The thought of him being guilty may be too awful for her to contemplate. She is probably putting on a brave face over the PA allegations but she is probably devastated. She doesn't deserve criticism for it.

My view on that is that I think PA did have had sex with 17 year old Virginia Roberts-Guiffre (and remembers but is denying it). I believe he thinks she willingly had sex with him and may have no knowledge that she was paid or coerced to do so by his paedophile friend. He has a big head and, as another poster said, he is probably conceited enough to think she fancied him.

The Queen doesn't deserve most of the crap she has put up with from her family. She has done a great job.

crispysausagerolls · 14/01/2020 11:34

Someone has trademarked “Sussex Royal” in America so that they can’t 😂😂😂

Supersimkin2 · 14/01/2020 11:35

They model themselves on the Obamas.

The shame of it.
