Harry and Meghan resigning Act 4: the Price of Freedom.....?

So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

I wonder if he was snippy because he wasn't feeling particularly relaxed either.

katiegoestoaldi · 14/01/2020 15:28

If Harry knows the monarchy and their popularity can fall at any moment that makes his recent behaviour even more awful

katiegoestoaldi · 14/01/2020 15:28

That was aimed at guacamole

blinkingowl · 14/01/2020 15:30

I went off Harry when I saw the appalling way he treated his polo ponies,

Alsohuman · 14/01/2020 15:32

He hasn't had a job has he? (Only the military)

Yup, only the military. Two tours in Afghanistan, beasted through Sandhurst where no allowances would have been made. Nothing really. Ffs.

Guacamole · 14/01/2020 15:44

@katiegoestoaldi I don’t disagree. Harry has behaved appallingly.

MissEliza · 14/01/2020 15:44

I just read the Littlejohn article. It gave me a good laugh after a crap start to the week. I particularly liked the line about keeping details of their new dog secret in case it was 'hounded by the puparazzi'. GrinGrinGrin

@notmoresheep

Thanks for the endearing sausage moniker / made me chuckle 😁

Really enjoying these threads

Butterymuffin · 14/01/2020 15:47

Dismissing his military service is not on. And I'm not sure Invictus is 'just part of his job'. I'm not aware of Andrew doing anything similar despite having served in combat himself.

Regarding "Bumpgate" the comparisons between Kate and Meghan aren't exactly fair.

Kate is shown days before she is due to go into labour, literally at the beached whale stage where basically your hands are incapable of hanging down without touching your bump at some point.

Meghan is shown at a much earlier stage in her pregnancy where it probably wouldn't even be that obvious she was pregnant with the right clothes. Yet the hands are constantly being used to draw attention to the bump.

Don't compare apples with oranges.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 14/01/2020 15:47

What's with the polo horse thing?

astralweaks · 14/01/2020 15:57

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook

Calls for it to be moved are just a not subtle way of trying to end the conversation. Very controlling really.

Yes, I thought that might be the case. Hmm.
Easy access to a popular forum is important.

I felt for her on the balcony too. But I don't buy into this whole Harry is so amazing thing either.

I agree on both counts. She must have felt awful to be reprimanded by the little pipsqueak in such a rude and humourless way. It did show the other side of him.

He could have smiled - I would have felt like crying if I was her too.

Of course he could have done that in a much nicer way. To treat anyone as he did is horrible.

Rumboogie · 14/01/2020 16:04

@NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite

I've just seen this comparison of the treatment of Kate and Meghan by the press. The hypocrisy is blatant.

NONE of those are in any way comparable.
Manufacturing an issue where none exists

I've just looked and some, but not all, (I only counted 8 there anyway) are definitely comparable.

I don't think they are at all.

Bump
-as you said.

Avocado:
Kate - one was gifted by a little boy for her HG
Meghan a habitual Avo-on-toast consumer, apparently.

Christmas:
W and K spending it with Kate's family, prearranged and agreed with HMQ.
H and M spending it alone in Canada, apparently without consultation or even notification of HMQ till shortly before (HMQ had to actually ask them if they were planning to attend, reportedly).

Trademarks/Companies:
W and K set up companies to protect their intellectual property rights. These are dormant. Any future branding down the line will benefit their charities.
M and H have applied to trademark specific goods for their Sussex Royal 'product empire' estimated that it will be a multi million pound revenue business. Seen as a pre-planned prelude to exit.

Stiff upper lip:
William was speaking about mental health more generally, and the benefits of talking.
M and H were again focusing on themselves, and unfortunately against the backdrop of extreme poverty and disease in Africa. Their timing was very poor and made their apparent privilege very stark.

Candles vs Air fresheners:
Kate had scented candles at her wedding in Westminster Abbey.
Meghan wanted staff to go around spritzing St George's Chapel with air freshener. This was felt to be excessive and require too much staff time and therefore refused.

Flowers:
Both Kate and Meghan had lily-of the-valley in their bouquets.
Only Meghan had L-o-V in flower girls' hair.
L-o-V is poisonous and some of the girls were very young, but I agree they were hardly likely to eat it.

Christenings:
Prince Louis - HMQ unable to attend this due to D Trump visit, RAF. Timing was discussed and agreed with W and K some time prior.
Archie. HMQ unable to attend. Difference was - no discussion. Arranged during HMQs Holyrood week. PC also couldn't attend! Rearranged to accommodate PC, but HMQ had another commitment so still couldn't attend. Lack of liaison.

Coats--Hats?:
Don't get this. If Meghan was asked to wear a hat and didn't, what has that to do with Kate?

Presentation vs Editing Vogue:
Again, two unrelated things - comparing a Royal personage's general presentation with guest editing a high fashion magazine.

timetest · 14/01/2020 16:09

As to the bump. During my pregnancies I constantly touched and stroked the bumps. I was totally unaware of it until my sisters pointed it out. Maybe Meghan was the same.

What did a Harry do to the polo ponies?

Fraggot · 14/01/2020 16:11

Is it the same thing he did to buffalo?

Harry and the Polo Pony

Harry is alleged to been cruel to a Polo Pony in 2010 but it's relatively unproven, i.e. not enough evidence to say one way or the other.

He is alleged to have used his spurs on a Polo Pony during a match which left it which left it bleeding. But possible that someone could have bumped into him - it's a rough game. apparently as soon as it was realised, they stopped the game, treated the Pony and then the match went on again with the Pony apparently ok.

A witness says Harry carried on playing for ages after the blood was noticed but possible he didn't realise.

Lots of people very anti spurs but approx 50% of players wear them and some think it's more cruel to not wear them and kick the Pony.

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 16:16

William is back on duty today, issuing medals. He was also using sign language to one MBE recipient. You've got to hand it to the Cambridges, they know how to create great PR.

Tbh, I think MM wouldn't have got as much stick for this is she wasn't so vocal about CC. It's incredibly difficult once you open your mouth on controversial CC issues, like when she and H said, shortly after Archie was born, which was shortly after Louis was born, that they would never have a 3rd child as it was bad for the planet. They aren't wrong and if they didn't have a brand new nephew who was the third child, I'd have said go for it, but I thought this was one of their comments which they didn't need to say. Limit the number of children you plan to have, by all means, like many of us do, but I would never announce it publicly like they did. More of a general comment if you like, but in hindsight it comes across as a little pointed tbh.

Also, because she follows an ethical, almost vegan diet, I think it's not wrong to point out that avocados are not always the ethical choice. Obviously, the DM aren't the ones to be doing so though and frankly, I wish they'd all fuck the fuck off, but they don't seem to listen to me on that score...so 🤷‍♀️.

I do remember the stick KM got too when she was seeing W. "Weighty, wait Katy", because her weight was always changing quite a lot and she was waiting for a ring apparently. Horrible.

I thought the criticisms about showing off her bump were unfair until I saw this video She interrupts her own clapping to make sure the bump is in view. She’s so used to pulling her coat back it’s become a tic

LauraAurora79 · 14/01/2020 16:23

I do feel a bit sorry for Archie and any siblings he might have. And sorry that I'm too old to be alive when he's about 30-35 to see where this leads him. What if he wants to 'step back up' and be Prince Archie, eh? Can one do that? If one can step down, can one step up?!

But that's another thread.

ChangeInTime · 14/01/2020 16:27

It certainly is because this is the wrong one.

IrmaFayLear · 14/01/2020 16:31

I didn't realise that Harry had dumped the Royal Marines in order to hobnob with more exciting people at the Lion King:

In addition to the conduct of Harry and Meghan at the Premier, it was the same day as the annual Royal Marines on the Green memorial concert in Kent. Despite being the Captain-General of the Royal Marines Harry declined this invitation in order to attend the Disney Premier with Meghan.

Very poor behaviour, and more evidence that the pair of them do not do "boring".
