Harry and Meghan resigning Act 4: the Price of Freedom.....?

So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

I don't hate her, but I hate what they are doing (together, one assumes). For someone - Harry - to have been brought up with an absolute understanding of manners and societal expectation to behave like this seems quite unnatural, especially when you think they could have done it much more gently.

I do think that Meghan didnt understand what she was getting into - don't think celeb life is neccessarily a good preparation for a life of duty, gladhanding people you've never met before, will never meet again, in a dreary rainy city somewhere you've never heard of.

But that IS the job, such as it is - along with the glitzy bits of course.

feelingverylazytoday · 14/01/2020 13:11

I don't hate anyone either. I do recognise a pisstake when I see one though, and I see one here.
The British press are horrible, but they're horrible to a lot of people. Surely people learn to ignore it and allow their reps to handle the press.

Mominatrix · 14/01/2020 13:12

@joyfullittlehippo, Duchy food line is not a for-profit making enterprise 9www.princeofwales.gov.uk/what-duchy-originals-it-anything-do-duchy-cornwall).

Butterymuffin · 14/01/2020 13:12

She obviously despises the UK and probably despises the class system too.

Anyone who truly despised the class system would never have agreed to marry into the RF as she did. It would be hypocritical. She'd have said she could only be with Harry as private citizens supporting themselves. Didn't happen.

notmoresheep · 14/01/2020 13:13

kirinm where is the hate? A healthy dollop of skepticism definitely. Do you not know the difference? (look it up, also ‘idiom’ and ‘figurative’)

They have got everything in place before chucking a grenade at the RF, while so much more important stuff is going on in the country they’re supposedly proud to represent, in order to shill designer fashion or some such bollocks.

TheBrokenPagoda · 14/01/2020 13:14

They seem to be the epitome of the millennial Instagram generation. Anyone with a camera is a photographer. Anyone with a video camera is a documentary maker. Anyone with a blog is a journalist. Anyone with an opinion is an activist. Had a selfie taken with an impoverished child in Africa - congratulations you are now a humanitarian.

So depressing- these fools want to get paid for this. Or should we say they want to 'monetize' it.

JulietJanuary · 14/01/2020 13:14

Recognising a pisstake is a succinct way of putting it!

JulietJanuary · 14/01/2020 13:18

And the Queen reads their statement on her iPad, allegedly..

If that isn't true it ought to be.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/01/2020 13:18

I don't think I have ever been to a wedding where the bride/groom has had one solitary member of their family there. No aunts, uncles

Meghan has an Uncle Joffrey (Doria's brother). Probably best he didn't attend a royal wedding. Grin Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 14/01/2020 13:20

@JulietJanuary - I have visions of her reading it very very slowly on a tiny fitbit screen

Rumboogie · 14/01/2020 13:21

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom

I've just seen this comparison of the treatment of Kate and Meghan by the press. The hypocrisy is blatant.

Absolutely NONE of those are in any way comparable.

Manufacturing an issue where none exists

Wheresthebeach · 14/01/2020 13:21

feelingverylazytoday - nice summary.

If they're upset over the UK press, just wait til they're fair game for the National Enquirer!

Dozer · 14/01/2020 13:24

The buzzfeed article is interesting, and the selected press articles ARE comparable.

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 13:25

They already are with the National Enquirer, there's been some awful headlines about them. Makes the DM look like a fan page in comparison.

Thanks! Now I'm just off to catch up with the beardclub twitter Brew Grin

I’ve just had a quick Google of the Obama Foundation, Clinton Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
None appear to have an online shop, to buy those bandanas, socks and pens we are all so desperate to buy.

Joking apart. Why don’t they just call it the Harry & Meghan Sussex Foundation?
That way they are not implicating the Royal Family or trading on their titles; just using the Sussex as a surname.. They can sell whatever they like then.

MissDew · 14/01/2020 13:27

Well she’s got PH over a barrel hasn’t she? Archie is her pawn

This^

Also: yep.

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 13:29

In fact so many of the awful articles in the US tabloids were published prior to her interview in Africa it just makes her claims about the nasty UK media vs the US not having tabloids even more disingenous. IMO of course.

fallen121 · 14/01/2020 13:29

I've just been on Youtube watching Harry vs Meghan when it comes to speech making.

Meghan comes across as very natural and is able to speak for about 7 minutes without notes.

Prince Harry, on the other hand, is incapable is speaking for 7 seconds without notes. It's embarrassing, actually. As a public speaker he's basically unemployable.

My conclusion is that Meghan might be able to make a reasonable living for a bit on the public speaking circuit, but as a previous poster pointed out, she lacks the education and life experience that the likes of the Obamas have, so I am at a loss to know what she might speak about. Plus she is going to have to up her game a bit as people paying serious money for a ticket will expect her to speak for a lot longer than 7 minutes.

user1471590586 · 14/01/2020 13:30

I bet Prince Charles is also sad at not seeing Archie. I can't see Meghan ever coming back to the UK now, I don't think she dare be in the same room as the rest of the RF.
All this has also made me think about the York sisters. They have had a lot of negative press over the years but have shown a lot more respect and loyalty to the queen than M and H. Maybe they will be asked to take on some of the duties that M and H drop.

SerenDippitty · 14/01/2020 13:31

The reason she thought there were no nasty tabloids in the US is that prior to meeting Harry she was simply not a big enough name to interest them.

Rumboogie · 14/01/2020 13:33

@Moomin8

the Queen always looks miserable like that. It’s just a coincidence that Meghan is in her line of view grin

I'm not so sure. HM's grim face at the wedding really struck me at the time - she didn't lighten up once.

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 13:36

Some of their headlines though- Meghan's secret drug problem, Harry's secret love child, Meghan the Monster, Harry's real Dad. But avocados and bump rubbing was the real hate? Pissed me off that has!

Alsohuman · 14/01/2020 13:36

The reason she thought there were no nasty tabloids in the US is that prior to meeting Harry she was simply not a big enough name to interest them

That’s an excellent point. There’s certainly a possibility of Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice taking on more royal duties, sounds like a good idea to me.
