......... and try to break into the film industry.

It'll be an unlikely success as they'll have to stay awake for long periods while filming goes on.

Well. Unless they decide to make Carry On Sleeping.

My old girl Isis playing with catnip this morning. She's 16.
Her cat friend is asleep.

Getting a little worried about Tobias. I was pleased when he had a check up a couple of months back when he'd lost 300g because he was distinctly on the chubby side. But part of the reason for Annie & Nephew no. 4 coming round at the weekend was to see what they thought having not seen him for a bit whereas I see him every day, and they thought he may well have lost a bit more.

He's not skinny, though his bum does feel bony for him, but a further loss of weight while he's eating just as much of the same food as normal, and considering his various health issues, means I'll be keeping an even stricter eye on him than before with a possible unscheduled vet visit if it carries on 😟

Breadcat24 · 29/04/2026 11:18

@Allergictoironing Good luck to Tobias hopefully it is just him getting more active now the weather has improved

coastergirl · 29/04/2026 12:10

@Pixiedust1234 Walter hisses at Benny for a couple of days after vet visits. Obviously he must be a different cat because he smells funny. He's good after that though. They play fight a lot, especially now Benny's feeling better and has extra energy because he's not allowed out.

Hope Tobias is OK @Allergictoironing

Allergictoironing · 29/04/2026 12:11

He's the lightest he's been since he came home 3 years ago. Yes I'm paranoid about it, but I think with good reason considering his health problems and the fact I lost an otherwise perfectly healthy boy to CKD when he was only 7 and the first signs of that were weight loss.

Pixiedust1234 · 29/04/2026 12:36

coastergirl
playfighting?? 😱 Well, that just proves somebody is on the mend, whoohoo!

Allergictoironing
I'm not surprised you are worried. I don't know much about it but, obviously only after talking to a vet, could you put Tobias on a renal diet to see if he responds? Although I've heard renal diets aren't particularly tasty as far as cats are concerned so maybe not.

Gettingbysomehow
16? She looks beautiful. Can you ask her where she gets her energy from though, or is that energy only when catnip is about? I don't think I could sniff that just so I could hoover the house.

You might do better with a trail of bubble gum

I read she was hunting them down on amazon. But it was a very "contentious" thread.

CKD isn't Tobias's problem (that was Boycat, my soul panther). He was a stray for around 2 years, chucked out on the streets when he got to be about 6 months as far as we can tell. Obviously not chipped or neutered, so he has FIV.

He also has a thickening of the wall of his lower bowel which we don't know what the root cause is but the FIV won't be helping it. It seems to be progressing slowly so unlikely to be cancer, but it IS thickening more over time. Further diagnosis would require surgery which is highly contra-indicated for FIV cats due to their immunodeficiency. The standard treatment for generic things like this is steroids which are also contra-indicated for FIV.

He looks perfectly healthy, bounces around the house like a kitten some days, with the only signs of there being anything wrong is that his poo is near enough liquid - think cow pat on spring grass. He goes at least 4-5 times a day small amounts and is very windy when he goes. Diet makes no difference.

So it's a case of wait and watch, monitor him & be prepared to say goodbye when his quality of life gets past that point. But I know he's having his best life with me - warm, safe, fed properly, sufficient treats and fuss, and the love of his life (Girlcat) to boss him around.

CatsonPollock · 29/04/2026 19:16

Tobias is definitely living his best life with you (and Girlcat) ❤️ 🐈‍⬛ ❤️

It's impossible not to worry though.💐

Pixiedust1234 · 29/04/2026 19:56

Ack, I knew I would probably get it wrong but still posted. You'd think I would learn not to at my age.

So it's digestive rather than renal and now I remember you being on that hairball thread. Sorry Allergictoironing Flowers

Oh no, she hasn't been put on the naughty step again? Is this due to the "my cat had kittens cause I'm a selfish idiot" thread?

RumNotRun · 29/04/2026 21:30

Frank has been hanging out in the lounge this evening so I picked him up to see if he'd sit on my lap. Not only did he sit there, he ended up lying down and falling asleep for over 20 minutes! First time ever! Eventually he woke up and got down, glaring at me like I'd done something horrible but after a couple of hours, he got himself up onto my lap and has now been lying on me for nearly an hour. My legs are aching and I really need the toilet, but I can't disturb Frankenstein!

Pixiedust1234 · 29/04/2026 21:38

Wow Rum, that's amazing! You'll never get rid of him now he's realised it's a lovely warm napping spot 😂

CatsonPollock · 29/04/2026 22:17

Excellent work Frankie! 😁

Breadcat24 · 30/04/2026 11:37

@RumNotRun well done Frankie, so jealous I love a cat sitting on me

RumNotRun · 30/04/2026 12:01

Today he has come downstairs and is now curled up on my new chair like he owns it! All the other cats are on cushions around the chair, but not Frankenstein. It's his now.

I haven't received any notifications on the batcatphone yet 😹

My best wishes to Benny and Tobias (and any other off colour cats or humans on the thread).

It's lovely weather here today - Basil has just walked in from outside and flopped dramatically on the floor. He's very hot.

Hello from my beautiful girl (at the back, hiding in the flowers) and her son, Boss-Cat the Kitten, who is a gorgeous & cheeky and loves snuggles at night time. I’ve only had them three months but they are now in charge of everything.

EmpressaurusKitty · 30/04/2026 16:02

What a beautiful pair!

Are all those flowers safe for cats, @MrsToddsShortcut? I know lilies are poisonous but I’m not sure about most others.
