......... and try to break into the film industry.

It'll be an unlikely success as they'll have to stay awake for long periods while filming goes on.

Well. Unless they decide to make Carry On Sleeping.

Cats had a very good day indeed yesterday. Annie and nephew no.4 came round to abuse my access to Disney Plus, which usually means extra treats for cats.

So yesterday both cats decided that in return they would demand extra strokes and scritches as payment for the use of the streaming services - until now they had both been very shy of anyone other than me (except Tobias when Annie had chicken for him).

So win win situation for all. Cats get extra fusses on demand, Annie & nephew No. 4 get to stroke cats. Nephew no. 4 even got asked to stroke Girlcat's belly! Bonus for me is that now both of them know what Tobias's body feels like to stroke, so can do the "sanity check" if I feel like he's lost more weight.

Is that a whistle hanging there? If so, who blows it? Please say Kitty!

I’m not sure where I picked the whistle up (might have been a Christmas cracker). Kitty likes swiping it but hasn’t worked out how to blow it…. Yet!

RumNotRun · 27/04/2026 08:51

That's what you think @EmpressaurusKitty - when you're out, she turns into a 90s raver with that whistle!

Not sure I’d put it past her…

Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh

Why do people who breed their cats & then post kitten pics on MN think everyone’s going to just say “How cute” & not ask the important questions?

You can tell who’s at the coalface on that thread & it’s not the ‘Oooh kittens!’ lot.

Micia is looking very relaxed, has she properly settled in now, or still taking it one step at a time?
And: she is gorgeous, of course!

I was volunteering at the kids’ school a few weeks back and a little girl was talking to me about her pets and told me about her cat who was missing. I said “Oh dear, how sad, you must be worried”. She said “No, he often goes missing when he is looking for a mate. He will be back later.”

Obviously I wasn’t going to start lecturing a 7 year old on why her parents were irresponsible pet owners but I did have to bite my tongue.

Breadcat24 · 28/04/2026 18:21

@Pudmyboy sorry for the late reply I have just been to the most boring conference ever!
To answer your question we are a bit forward and back on the progress with Micia.
on the plus-
She likes to be stroked - but only when she is lying in a specific place. She likes to play with toys. She is still quite nocturnal. She has started hanging around in the sitting room a bit with us at night. Is preferring to toilet in a tray outside. Is going out on her balcony. Sits and watches you if you have pizza

on the minus-
still runs away as if we are going to skin her and make her into a hat. Still cries at night sometimes. Has started to get a bit bored with some types of food. Is still hiding the catnip mice- we are going through them like no tomorrow.
We have decided she is younger than they guessed at the rescue. She is very kittenish when she plays
I think I just need to spend more time with her.
Which I should be able to do as Newsflash! I have resigned!

FFS. I’m glad your two are safe from all that.

Pudmyboy · 28/04/2026 18:26

Wow @Breadcat24 ! I was reading your message, nodding, smiling then: kaboom! You have resigned!!
Was it the boring conference or has this been brewing for a good while?
I wish you a smooth exit and great success in whatever comes next!!🎆🎊🎉

Breadcat24 · 28/04/2026 18:40

@Pudmyboy Thanks for asking. I got called into a meeting in Jan where they said they wanted to completely change my job description. Instead of scientific industry engagement I was supposed to try to engage philanthropists. Would not have applied for such a role. Tried it hated it - hence resigned.
To be honest I am in a ratty mood as waiting for my knees to be replaced so that does not help. No does it make it easier to crawl around looking for Micia under furniture!!
Back to being retired for me!

Evening all! Sorry for going awol again for so long. I forget to check in for a few days, it becomes overwhelming to catch up (thanks adhd) so I put it off and the problem spirals.

Just to let you all know, Benny is really good. It was a major rollercoaster for quite a long time. I can't remember what I've posted, but after the emergency surgery for the ruptured diaphragm, he came home a few days later but it was so hard getting him to eat or go to the loo. He developed a chest infection and was back hospitalised at the vets for a few days having antibiotics etc. Came home for over a week and was doing so well, then suddenly became poorly again. What they think happened was that the nerves in the end of his spinal cord started to recover and he was getting a funny sensation in the base of his tail, like pins and needles, and he basically gave himself a cat bite injury causing a massive infection and abcess. Another few days hospitalised plus many follow up appointments, he was eventually discharged a couple of weeks ago and is going from strength to strength. His tail is recovering very slowly though, he can hold it about an inch or two above the ground but no other movements, so it's possible it still may be to be amputated. In general though he's great.

Hope all thread members and their felines are well!

Pics: snuggled up tonight, the fur finally starting to grow back on his belly, nosing the camera when I was trying to take a nice photo.

Walter is really good too!

Oh Benny boy! I love the pic of him nosing the camera!
What a rollercoaster @coastergirl , the stress you must have gone through doesn't bear thinking about. I am so glad Benny is finally properly on the mend though it's a bit sad about the potential loss of his tail. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to that!
Thank you for the update, it's great he is recovering so well!😻
Edited to add: glad Walter is well too!

coastergirl · 29/04/2026 00:50

Ah @Pudmyboy thank you. It's been such a stressful time. Thank goodness for pet insurance. He was pushing £8K in vets bills by the end. We're now trying to figure out building a catio on a tight budget to keep them safe. I'll find a recent photo of Walter.

@coastergirl good news about Benny. What a horrible time you have been through

KeziaOAP · 29/04/2026 09:02

coastergirl what a stressful time Benny and you have been going through, pleased he's on the mend. Fingers crossed his tail improves.

CatsonPollock · 29/04/2026 09:27

Thanks for updating us about Benny. I had been thinking about him (and you!)

Hoping that it's all good progress from now on.

Pixiedust1234 · 29/04/2026 09:34

Oh my goodness coastergirl , what a stressful time! So pleased Benny is slowly recovering ❤ Walter looks like a very good boy in those photos and I trust he's being a very good brother to Benny.
