Lenny however needs a rest before he starts searching.

I'm going to take a stab at his previous people not understanding his messages and either going too far when he's got over stimulated, or playing a bit roughly with him, or not seeing when he's warned them he doesn't appreciate something.

I think that makes total sense, @Allergictoironing.

I love the happy gobbly noises, @Kirova, Kitty makes them too sometimes.

Breadcat24 · 16/02/2026 21:21

Micia eats anything and it vanishes so quick I do not think she has time to make a noise
Wish we knew more about her life as a stray.
Thank goodness she is roaming about a bit more as if she was just eating and sitting on the windowsill we would be in trouble for making her porky
Husband says she came in our bedroon last night to peer at us while I was asleep.
She can go three floors freely now- some doors shut as she is black and difficult to find. Likes the top landing and her safe room so far.
Hopefully catio will be finished tomorrow so that wil be an option too.

Kirova · 16/02/2026 21:33

There are a lot of feral cats around here and in the gardens at the end of our block there's a kind of feral cat food bank and shelter.

The only problem is that all the non-feral cats have sussed it out and go there for snacks. I'm sure it's benefit fraud.

Anyway - none of the cats in the neighbourhood are looking skinny.

Yes, there are plenty of MNetters who would cheerfully report them.

Esgaroth · 17/02/2026 13:27

Kettle saw another cat and is fummin 😡

As you can tell by his impressively fluffed up tail.

It was the pretty little tortoiseshell and I shut the window before he could leap out and have a go at her so he is reduced to glaring.

I can imagine the AIBU.

@Esgaroth Kettle has a most impressive tail.

In news from foster-land: the finger biter still hasn't bitten. He loves his toys and has certainly gnawed away on some of those, but he hasn't shown any inclination towards finger biting... Yet. However, he did take the huff with me because I dared to move his Amazon box slightly (so that it would be slightly less of a trip hazard) and turned his back on me very pointedly for 20 mins.

I'm also visiting FC1 next door this evening! She's already perfected the art of escaping from the basement flat and dashing all the way up to the top of the (fairly tall) building, which was also a favourite trick at hours. So she's clearly feeling at home.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 17/02/2026 16:27

I am a feral cat and I visit a wonderful food bank, set up for me and my mates. We enjoy several pouches of Felix every day.

Recently a collection of cats who live with humans (and are therefore not in need) have started coming to the Cat Food Bank.

They eat everything in sight. Even pouches which I know they refuse when their owners buy them. They laugh about this. ("Ha ha she bought 96 Felix Cod AGAIL and I refuse to eat them at home. It really upsets her lol")

AIBU to report these cats to the authorities? They shouldn't be eating our food, the bastards.

Breadcat24 · 17/02/2026 17:37

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne we need the laugh emoji back

Kirova · 17/02/2026 18:15

One of our neighbours' cats actually got captured and taken to the vet after incessantly using the food bank under false pretences. The vet didn't even need to scan her: she was like, "oh, that's a Very Well Looked-After Cat from (our street name)". Very Well Looked-After Cat had to be collected by her humans, who were cringing with embarrassment.

Very Well Looked-After Cat also sits at our window, crying and tapping the window with her paw. She has a range of properties she visits in order to devour human foods and pee in people's showers. However, we are currently out of favour for having Another Cat in residence.

YABU How dare you judge, you don't know these cats' personal circumstances. They may have requested dinner and been told "it's not your dinner time yet", they may have been served something unacceptable. You are only seeing a snapshot out of their day. Try not to be so narrow minded.

Breadcat24 · 17/02/2026 22:20

You have just reminded me to give Micicia second dinner- hope she runs around tonight.
New strategy tomorrow moving the dinner out towards the door what do you think?
She now has a catio with a balcony in the garden if she ever goes down stairs and out

Pianoaholic · 17/02/2026 22:41

Herbie would probably be a repeat offender at a cat food bank.
Readers of this thread may remember when he used to go next door to eat the dog's food!

Pianoaholic · 17/02/2026 22:44

Oh, and this morning I went down to make tea and stepped on some pastry on the floor (as you do).
We hadn't sorted out leftovers from dinner (chicken and bacon pie from Sainsbury's) and Herbie took his chance for a midnight feast. He obviously wasn't so keen on the pastry.

Kirova · 17/02/2026 23:05

I mean, I don't want to libel TC-Gizmo but I suspect he'd be a regular at the cat food bank too...

Kind of best of both worlds with the FC visit. She curled up on my lap and spent the whole time I was there cuddling with me and purring gratifyingly, but she is also obviously very happy in her new home and seems to have settled in incredibly fast!

(Meanwhile, DD has declared that she thinks I am going to marry FC's new dad...)

Esgaroth · 17/02/2026 23:23

Well that would be one way to get the cat back I suppose.

And they may also recall the time when my neighbour gave Gizmo shelter from a storm and fed him on dog food, sardines and a bowl of milk.

Being Gizmo, he ate the lot.

I've never understood why the neighbour didn't just send Gizmo home. We live at number 8 and he lives at number 10, so it wasn't exactly far.

Why am I reminded of a ship's parrot squawking "Any port in a storm"?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 18/02/2026 00:14

Oh definitely.
He pops in to see as many of my neighbours as will let him in, and I expect they give him various tidbits.

That's presumably why he goes to the school playground, too. Although even Gizmo doesn't eat sweets.

At least, I don't think he does.

Allergictoironing · 18/02/2026 08:03

Final results in from Tobias's vet visit last week. Bloods look fine, including his B12 being in the "perfect" range so I'll just keep on with the Cobalaplex twice a week. Weight (I think I mentioned before) down 300g which he could have done with losing, though I'll keep an eye on it. Nothing new showing up on most of his tests.

But being Tobias, he had to come up with something new didn't he! Mild asthma is the latest, but as a) it isn't bad and b) treatment is steroids (contra indicated with FIV) we'll just monitor it. At least that means no more vet trips until his next 6-8 monthly check up.

RumNotRun · 18/02/2026 08:42

That's good news @Allergictoironing

Lex nested on the sofa last night, more than usual. So far, he is showing no signs of planning to move at all today. I told him I'd put his breakfast out, he lifted his head, looked at me, and decided he was too snuggly so he's staying put. I am jealous.

LostCats2 · 18/02/2026 11:07

Rum, Lex has absolutely the right idea there. Especially in this weather!

Kirova, FC2 sounds so lovely! Is the gorgeous happy food noises maybe because he wasn't sure where his next meal was coming from? Bless his heart.

Boone slowly declining. Am hating it. I worry every day if I'm keeping him alive for me. The vet hasn't said anything at all about it and DH thinks I'm mad. And Boone is still so happy wandering about, massively enjoying that 'he can no longer get outside easily so he can wee and poo where he desires' which does my head in. I know I'm being silly and he's actually given us 3 wonderful extra years with him, but I guess I've worried the exact same as this for 3 years.
Eko on the other hand is getting larger and larger due to hibernating from the rain and cold. Summer needs to come soon so he can lose some weight!! He must be 8kg by now and we're going to have to get a microchip feeder for Boone so the weight stops adding on to Eko who eats everything he sees.
He would absolutely be down the cat food shelter minesweeping everything!

Esgaroth · 18/02/2026 11:35

Kettle showing off his missing fang.

Breadcat24 · 18/02/2026 18:19

@LostCats2 sorry about Boone
He is getting well looked after though!
I wonder if people look at me and think I am declining (2 new knees planned this year) hopefully they do not concern themselves with my poo

Micia is very easy to lose as she is black- found her under our bed earlier

Gizmo says, he didn't eat sweets till he moved to Scotland and discovered those lovely Irn Bru chew bars.

Breadcat24 · 19/02/2026 16:22

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne as long as he does not eat your bubblegum

Pianoaholic · 19/02/2026 17:59

DS has a babybel 'habit', and Herbie is very interested in them! He even has a sniff at the red wax.
