Flying back to the UK today - our cat sitter has told us that Basil is very bored and clearly missing us.

We collected our 2 from their foster home once we'd been approved and arranged a date so unfortunately I don't know how shelters normally work.

I don't think I've ever taken any of mine straight home. They have usually been kittens so needed more time before being allowed to leave. The few teenage cats I've adopted were also delivered though.

@Breadcat24 How exciting! Are you able to tell us anything about your potential new cat?

My two came from Cats Protection. I had to reserve them and then wait while they did some checks (basically looking on Google Maps and phoning me to ask some questions). I think they probably want to rule out anyone adopting a cat on impulse, so it gives people a few days to think about it before they commit. I would be surprised if any decent rescue let you leave with a cat you've just met.

It is really hard to get a rescue cat!

It seems so strange that there are so many cats needing homes, but so many people struggling to adopt. I was lucky when I got Boris and Matilda, as Cats Protection didn't have any kittens left up for adoption when I went in. I was with my friend who worked there and they whispered to my friend that we could have a look round and come back when the other people looking had gone and I could see the "special kittens". These turned out to be Boris and Matilda who weren't up for adoption as Boris was recovering from pneumonia.

I did enquire about another pair of kittens a couple of years ago and got an email back saying that they had been reserved, but if I wanted to complete the form available on the website they would see if they had any other suitable cats and would get in touch. So they seemed fairly organised, but I guess it depends by location.

Some of my fosters got taken home after the first visit, but by that time the people had filled in the application form, had a video call home check, agreed with the rescue which cat they wanted & then a conversation by text with me (or the relevant fosterer) before they actually visited.

All that took at least a week, usually more.

Linney decided to sit next to the Rogues' Gallery of Dead Cats this evening.

Kitty’s looked up at the row of foster cat photos in the past & it’s made me wonder whether cats can recognise pictures of other cats.

Linney is probably saying "look, I'm sooo much lovelier than those previous cats"

Or possibly wondering which picture of him I'll put in a frame when he joins them.

I've realised today that I haven't had any Anglo Bubblies for ages.

I’m doing Norwegian on Duolingo & it just came up with ‘Katten spiller piano’ which means ‘The cat is playing the piano.’

It made me think of Stripey.

I have a friend who was wondering where various small things kept vanishing to & finally found her cat’s substantial hoard under a bush.

I suspect you subconsciously no longer need to do "angry chewing" or "agressive bubble popping". I wonder why 🤔
