Yeah, right.

Linney is more suitable.

At least he's actually a Scottish cat.

Gizmo is an English interloper, who only came to Scotland in order to get behind my bathroom cupboard.

🤣🤣 It will keep for a while in the fridge if you fancy living off soup for a few days.

Well, I'm not wasting it. 🤣
I'd been keeping quite a lot of tomatoes to one side, with the intention of making the soup when the infamous Soup Maker arrived.

I just didn't bargain on there being quite so much of it.

I shall make lentil next time. Do I need to soak them for a while first, does anyone know?

Can you fridge it & ask friends to lunch tomorrow?

Kitty was very interested in something on the ceiling this morning. At one point I thought she was going to try walking along the curtain rail.

There's something on our ceiling as well. Something invisible to human eyes but very interesting clearly.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne Be very wary lentil soup expands and seems to get bigger and never go away.
Spicy butternut squash?

Benny hasn't eaten his tea and is even refusing a chicken lollipop. When should I worry? He just wants to sleep.

Remind me how old Benny is?
And is he drinking, poohing and peeing?
Don't hesitate to ring your vet for advice if you're worried.

Seconding Broon above. Make sure his tray is clean & you know what level is in his water bowl; if he's not drunk or used the tray & still not eating in the morning then call the vet.

He may well just be a little off colour, but also (if he lets you) run your hands over everywhere to check whether he's had a bite or other injury. Cat bites can easily hide until they become an abscess, but if you find anything then again vet call in the morning.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 25/10/2025 07:45

How is Benny this morning @coastergirl ?

learieonthewildmoor · 25/10/2025 07:58

coastergirl: sending good wishes for Benny.

I am teaching Cat Fourandhertail how to access food in the treat tree. She has advanced from waiting for Cat One to dislodge some for her, to using direct access. Her mother is extremely smart -ferociously smart- but Cat Four seems more Lydia Bennet than Lizzy.
She waited expectantly for Cat Three to deliver the goods a few times, then realised he was waiting for her. Treat tree is a complete mystery to him.

Love to Benny, @coastergirl.

I think Kitty could work out how to use a treat tree but her idea of one is sitting by the treat drawer & giving hard stares. Which usually works.

She was inspecting the bedroom ceiling last night. All I can think of is that she’s either trying to get upstairs to my neighbour, who she likes, or that it’s something to do with the Underground Felineroad northwards. Especially now they all know that @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne likes gingers.

In typical Benny fashion, shortly after I posted, he started eating 😂

Very pleased to hear it. He was probably just processing a slightly indigestible mouse. 🤣
Thumbs up to Benny 👍

I think that's highly likely tbh.

@coastergirl excellent bounce back from Benny. Well done that cat.

Yes, that's exactly what they do.
I'm sure they've got a mental list of the vet's charges, and know to a nicety when it's going to cost you a fortune.

They also know that in these situations, they always recover on the way to the surgery, so the vet is puzzled and has to do myriad tests, X-Rays and scans, just to announce:

"nothing wrong with this cat, and here's a bill for £700"

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 25/10/2025 13:00

Well I'm glad that Mr. Benny is okay, and that you avoided the dreaded vet bill this time @coastergirl

How's your DS getting on?

I was on my way over to my neighbour's house this morning, to reconnect her telly to the internet, and came across both my boys, in slightly different places.

Gizmo was messing around on a bench and Linney was asleep under last year's Christmas tree.

And Linney. The tree was planted there, in the middle of the sheltered housing complex, two years ago.

I think Gizmo was making his usual rounds of everyone's houses, to see what foodstuffs might be on offer.

I’ve been combining Kitty’s cat trees & im now waiting for her to wake up & tell me what she thinks. I’m also trying to decide what to get her for Christmas.

It’s only just occurred to me after reading a post by Allergic on another thread, but all the staring northwards fits quite well on a thread titled Scottish Tourism.

I want to ask: does Kitty access the holey hideaway from underneath only, or can she do a bendy banana shape from the top shelf and slide elegantly into the hideaway?

Almost always from underneath. On the rare occasions when she sits on the top she usually comes all the way down after.

One reason for the extension is that she can find it quite tricky to get down - she puts one paw in the hole & has to be almost vertical to get to the round platform, so I’m hoping that having more surfaces around will make it easier.

There’s a thread by someone with too many sausages. I don’t know where she lives but I’m sure some of the Excellent Cats could help.
