Calling all cats! Come and get some chicken.

Yes, it could have been revenge for having his peace disturbed by the earlier vacuum/saxophone duet.
Herbie was banished in the end...DH opened the living room window and 'encouraged' him through it. Then he disappeared into the night!

Your comments about Saxophones and musical cats reminded me of something...

Not cat related - but VJ day yesterday. My dad was a Japanese POW and I know that at least one other denizen of the Litter tray also had family severely affected by the war in Japan.
Makes me reflect on how lucky I am not to lived through the hardships my parents did.

Allergictoironing · 16/08/2025 09:39

Yep, my mother too, and her mother. Her father died in his. Stanley Camp, Hong Kong.

JoanOgden · 16/08/2025 10:02

I'm sorry to hear that, Grumpy and Allergic. My grandfather (a great cat lover) fought in the British army in the Far East at the end of WW2 and I think saw some terrible things.

Pianoaholic · 16/08/2025 10:49

We went for a walk in Lacock (village not far north of us) and there were VJ day flags up. We overhead a family puzzling over what VJ day was about. They eventually figured out that it was something to do with the end of the war, but couldn't work out what the J stood for!

DrDisrespect · 16/08/2025 10:50

Katja is in the queue for chicken (although looking at this picture she may need to lay off the treats...)

My father was a field paramedic in the Army in north Africa in WW2.

He and my mother got married in 1941 and barely saw one another till he was demobbed at the end of the war.

I'm so pleased that for the first time I can think of, they are actually making a thing about VJ Day. Over the years you always heard about VE Day, and VJ Day was ignored by the news etc. Celebrations in May on the "big" anniversaries, all forgotten about by June let alone August.

Yes, I agree.
VJ day is often forgotten.
It should never be.

Ooh, that little shit Gizmo stayed out all night.
He went out at 9pm and returned at 8am.

Perhaps he was trying to get to Rum's house, to get the freezer for us.

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne My grandfather on my Dad's side was based in North Africa too. Apparently he had a great time and never seemed to adapt back to civilian/family life. There are rumours that there may be relatives over where he had been based (which, knowing my paternal family, would not surprise me). Dad has a copy of a poem written by one of Grandfather's colleagues when they were stationed in Egypt. I think the language used would get me banned if I copied it here!

I can neither confirm or deny Gizmo visiting Wales but I'm sure there are a few sheep missing now from some farms. Maybe he got hungry on his way.

Thank you for the new thread @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne 😻 I've NC (was PollyC) Kloppy's and Rosie's mum.

Poor cats have been struggling this week in what is hopefully the last heatwave of the summer (38c). When I say struggling, I mean Kloppy has parked himself under the A/C unit and Rosie has positioned herself in front of the big fan yet somehow managed to sidle up for cuddles....not great for me when the hot flushes kick in 🥵

We are on holiday in Greece and were met at the villa by an exceptionally charming NMC who looks like what would happen if you poured our own cats into one body.

I love that your holiday NMC is a Stripey/ Snowcat combination. It looks like it's wearing very dramatic eyeliner as well.

Very attractive NMHC 😻

Is she more like Stripey or Snowcat in personality, or a mix there too?

stormsandsunshine · 16/08/2025 21:33

More like Snowcat as she is a pretty confident little thing. She looks too thin to be an owned cat, but is very friendly and not at all skittish or fearful. She looks like a half grown kitten (no idea if she is really a girl of course). She was waiting at the villa when we arrived and greeted the children with great enthusiasm and watched them swim. Then she went off to do her own thing, and came back later to check on us.

She also seems to like being photographed.

@stormsandsunshine she is beautiful 😍

The tribe are feeling a bit discombobulated cause my ex (tbh more friend than ex) came round tonight. Some of them remember him, some are a bit wary, Fred just hides! They couldn't decide if they wanted to curl up and sleep, have fusses from the strange man, or stare at him.

Was your ex discombobulated too from the reactions?

RumNotRun · 17/08/2025 08:05

No, he's used to it now. He takes any affection he can get from them as a win. When he used to come round regularly, he was the favourite. Lex in particular adored him and hated me. Now Lex just mildly dislikes both of us 😁

EmpressaurusKitty · 17/08/2025 09:37

Kitty’s original foster mum is coming to visit on Thursday, the one who had her during pregnancy & until her kittens were rehomed.

It’s been over a year so neither of us is sure whether Kitty will remember her.
