Nice coat @EmpressaurusKitty - Mondrian cat?

For the last three nights Basil has decided that my pillow is his overnight sleeping spot. He normally sleeps at the foot of the bed.
This isn't ideal for me. Too hot, too noisy with the regular purring, bitey if I put hand near him, and bloody uncomfortable. Why on earth do I put up with this sort of behaviour?

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/07/2025 07:52

Thanks Grumpy. I’ve just googled Mondrian and yes, looks like it!

Shouldn’t you be grateful that Basil’s let you have the pillow for this long?

KittyKat2824 · 22/07/2025 14:14

Only bites me because he senses that I would actually die for him. Pretends to be a big scary cat but this morning was scared of a feather.

Maybe it was a very scary feather.

I’m really excited, I’m cat sitting two of my ex-fosters for a few days starting tomorrow afternoon, a lovely pair of tuxedo sisters. I haven’t seen them for nearly 2 years so no idea if they’ll remember me.

Will Kitty be okay?
Or will she be anxious, do you think?

They’re not coming here - they live about 15 mins walk away so I’ll be going over twice a day. I think she’ll be intrigued by the smells.

Ah, I see.

I'm home! Gizmo is enjoying his new Molly's Mouse.

Kitty’s loving hers too. How was the journey back?

Well, it was long, but really good all the same.

We’ve just got back from the vets. Kitty complained quite a lot, I think she was mainly livid at my heartless betrayal. Lured into the box by a lick-e-lix and suddenly locked in and whisked off to be prodded and poked and pricked.

On getting home just now she disappeared straight under the sofa.

On the bright side, she’s a healthy girl and we hopefully won’t have to go back for another year.

How lovely to get to visit them. I wonder if they'll remember you.

Esgaroth · 23/07/2025 12:48

Yes, I wonder how long a cat's memory is? Will be interesting if you get any friendly acknowledgement from them, @EmpressaurusKitty.

I am sad to report that my daughter is quite effectively stealing my cat by getting up early to give him his breakfast. He's started spending more and more evenings with her instead of me and sleeping in her room! Who can I complain to? 😄

Esgaroth · 23/07/2025 12:53

Traitor who only cares about breakfast.

Lindos isn't disappointing. We have seen approximately 30 NMCs (my boys were counting but the little one is very unreliable), multiple NMGs scrambling up the hillside right by the hotel pool, and several NMLs (lizards) darting around.

This is a most excellent cast indeed.

I mean, they all are, but still

Are the NMLs the deluxe kind who can detach their tails in order to escape?

Kitty’s cousin Nera in Tuscany loves chasing them & my aunt’s garden is usually littered with tails.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 23/07/2025 14:35

Linney is punishing me for going away, by sleeping on the outside bin.

He wouldn't come in last night and after he finally did, at 2am Pa Broon let him out again by accident which caused a bit of marital strife

I think I’m forgiven for this morning’s terrible experience, I was allowed to stroke her.

Off to see the MFCs (My Foster Cats) shortly & I’ll report back after.

Boris has been causing me stress the last couple of days, I never thought I would be so eagerly waiting for a cat to pee. He seemed a bit listless on Monday and kept licking his bits, but I thought maybe he was just a bit sore still and the antibiotics were disagreeing with him. Yesterday he seemed to be taking ages in the litter tray, so I got him an appointment at the local branch of the vets. We ended up seeing the vet that loves Boris. She thought his bladder felt quite full and gave him a diazepam and tried to get him to wee in some cat litter. We went home with instructions that if he hadn't peed by 8 to take him to the vet hospital.

I got Boris set up in the spare room with the special cat litter for urine samples. Still no wee so I took him to the vet hospital where the nurse took him away to feel his bladder. She came back 5 minutes later with him, as she'd managed to get him to empty his bladder. Never thought to ask if she'd kept the urine for a sample, so had to shut him in the spare room with me all day while I worked. It took the furry bastard until 7pm to actually have a pee, I've never been so relieved to see urine in my life.

It also turns out that one diazepam is a bit too strong for Boris. He almost tripped over his own feet going down stairs and got himself in a right muddle trying to get into the bed on the cat tree.

My old boy Rafa was a bugger for bringing in NMLs with detachable tails - my mum screamed the first time she saw this happen 🙀 He also used to crunch them (grimacing all the while) then projectile vomit ten minutes later. Cleaning up lizardy cat vom was a particular low point in my life, especially when it contained eggs 🤮🤮🤮

stormsandsunshine · 23/07/2025 21:27

Last year we stayed in a villa in Greece and were graced by the presence of a magnificent NMC every day. In the evening she entertained herself by catching NMLs effortlessly.

Esgaroth · 23/07/2025 21:28

We were visited by a particularly good looking NMC this evening. (Luckily not spotted by Kettle who was fast asleep).
