The cats were having a relaxing day until I decided that Matilda needed a brush. She's got a bit of fur on her back that she doesn't seem to be able to reach when she's cleaning herself and was starting to rival the lovely Lenny for scruffiest cat on the thread. I've got one of those grooming gloves, which she seemed to quite enjoy in the past, but in true cat fashion she has decided that she now hates it. It ended up with Matilda miaowing at me in protest and trying to attack the glove and Boris shouting at me that he wanted to be brushed RIGHT NOW HUMAN!

A belated Happy Birthday! @Pianoaholic

I can't imagine living that rurally @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne I never knew click and collect van deliveries to out of the way locations was a thing. I live less than 10 minutes drive from my local Morrisons. Unfortunately it always looks a bit shabby and grubby, so I try and avoid it, but luckily their are loads of alternatives near by.

Not only that, but I pretended on the Tesco website that I lived in the next village, to get "home deliveries" which I collected from the car park next to the public loos.

That was also problematic because we never knew exactly when the van was going to come.
🤣

So honestly, it was a red letter day when Tesco's decided to come to our village.

Sorry, I could bore for Scotland on the subject of supermarket delivery slots.

How far is the drive to your nearest supermarket @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne ? I have the other extreme of being on a road off one of the major routes into the city centre, with buses every few minutes. The downside is it's a bit noisy and we seem to have had more than our share of random road closures for bricks falling off houses, police chases, cycle lanes being built, knife fights culminating in hit and runs and most recently Severn Trent digging up the road. Which makes it sound like a very dodgy area, but it really isn't, we just seem to have more than our fair share of random weirdness.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/07/2025 20:28

I’m in a West London suburb with the nearest big supermarket 10 mins walk away, but my estate is conveniently tucked away behind the high street so road traffic is minimal.

Planes, on the other hand….

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 06/07/2025 20:29

Our nearest Tesco's is 60 miles away in Oban, along an awful, bendy road

The nearest Morrisons is 78 miles away in Helensburgh, in the other direction, and the roads to get there are even worse.

We lived in London till eight years ago. I was born and brought up there.

I much prefer Argyll.

I’m sure TC2 will as well.

60 miles to the nearest supermarket! @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne You must have to be super organised with your shopping, I'm far to used to nipping into the Tesco express because I forget the milk. London to Argyll must be a major lifestyle change, glad that you're enjoying it. Must be great for cats as well, I assume there isn't much traffic.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 06/07/2025 21:18

No, there's very little traffic.
There is a Co-Op though, which is handy.

Ooh and we have the butcher from Paisley who comes once a week.
There are two fish delivery services. They're daily, though.

I'll tell you what's great about this village - the medical care. When we ring the surgery, they answer immediately and they give an appointment within two days. No queuing on the phone as we had to do in London. We have two doctors here, and several nurses and lots of other medical staff.

The vet's fifteen miles away though.

You mention Oban @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne , that was my Scottish nana's favourite place. She was born in Airdre and ended up in Swansea but always wanted to be back in Scotland.
My mum ended up in England and pined for Wales as that's where she was born and lived until she was 21.

Kitty being a sophisticated London cat with her own balcony really suits her glamorous pictures. We are East Midlands. I love how the Excellent cats come from such different areas.

I was very lucky this morning when I woke up at 4.30. A little tiny Frankenstein came snuggling round asking for a cuddle.

We live in Cardiff in an ok area, Lidl, Co-op and Aldi are all in walking distance. In fact Morrisons and Tesco probably are too but I wouldn't want to walk back with too much shopping. Online shopping is too convenient to give up, especially for people like me who commit the cardinal MN sin of not driving 😲

My friend has adopted two puppies. She claims that it's a trial week to see which puppy fits in with her existing dog the best, but she's clearly going to keep both. May I present two NMDs, Rock and Roll.

EmpressaurusKitty · 07/07/2025 07:27

Me too. And Kitty’s very pleased to be described as a glamorous sophisticat - though I think it’s pretty glamorous of Matilda to have a wall scratcher box to sit in that matches her lovely colouring.

Allergictoironing · 07/07/2025 07:41

Cute little terrier doggies - she can't possibly separate them, clearly bonded 😉

Shopping for me is quite an issue. Carrying even a small top up from the car into the house is bloody uncomfortable let alone a full shop. Even with deliveries I just hoick them into the hall and put away any frozen. Then it's a 10 minute sit down to rest the back before I start on the chilled. Luckily I have Tesco, Sainsbury, Morrisons, Asda and Ocado all available for delivery; usually use Asda or Amazon Morrisons, with the occasional Ocado.

Today I need to pick up painkillers from the pharmacy in Asda, so I'll grab a bag of groceries but that's my max these days!

EmpressaurusKitty · 07/07/2025 07:46

I need to walk round to Asda now but it’s pouring, so it might feel more like a swim.

Happy Birthday to @TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne and @Pianoaholic!

We were away for the weekend touristing around near where we live and Kettle was at home with his robot cat biscuit dispenser. I think he missed us because he's been extra cuddly. It's making breakfast more challenging but very sweet.

They only thought of supermarket deliveries here in 2020 😄
I don't know anyone who gets them.
