Bizarre yet impressive things your cat has done

We have a maine coon and he is always 'into things'. He cannot be trusted around meats (runs away with said meat in his mouth) or small boppable objects (that he can also run away with in his mouth).

I left my washing up gloves to dry last night and I woke up this morning to find the 'end' (the sleeve bit) of one glove in the hallway. Went into the kitchen and glove was hanging up with the end of it missing. Just why?

He never fails to surprise me and he tickles me. What was going on in that furry brain of his?

What odd things has your cat done that tickles you?

PS I could kind of get if he was interested in the fingers bits but I had hung them over a closed cupboard door and the finger bits were inside the cupboard, so out of view!

Perhaps not bizarre but one Christmas I came downstairs to find a fuzzy red wing on my stair, I knew it belonged to the fabric robin tree bauble. No sign of the robin. The following year I found the one winged robin under the sofa. I believe she intentionally hid the body.

I still put the robin on the tree, visible to her but inaccessible, much to her displeasure. She kept the wing as a trophy.

My new cat likes playing the guitar. For real. My guitar is hanging on the wall above the cat tree. It's always been there and my other cats have never paid it any attention. New boy caught it accidentally while fighting himself to the death on top of the tree. It made a noise. He froze then hit the strings. It made more noise. Now when he's on the cat tree he randomly and deliberately hits the strings because he's fascinated with the noise it makes. Weirdo!

Went missing for 18 weeks, totally fended for himself, and then was 'found' by one of those animal tracing companies and came home as if nothing had happened. We honestly thought he was dead and had even been to Majorca - saved on cattery fees!

My cat chews anything rubber. Every pair of crocs in the house has teeth marks in, and he has devoured countless ear phones (the added taste of ear wax seems to enhance the sensation for him...) He will also lick your ears, given the chance, which is not a pleasant sensation!

Santaiswashinghissleigh · 21/11/2023 12:00

As a dc my dcat brought a dead seagull in via the cat flap! The noise and mess weren't pleasant..

SabrinaThwaite · 21/11/2023 12:04

Mine steals things and hides them under the corner of a rug - emery boards, hair bobbles, bits of paper.

Old cat could spot a postman a mile away - she had a pathological hatred of them. I had to keep her indoors at delivery times.

HeyNando · 21/11/2023 12:07

Mine completely inexplicably climbed our ten foot palm tree last night at pace and hid in the leaves for quite some time 🤷🏻‍♀️

artyarty · 21/11/2023 12:11

Mine can open cupboards to the point I've had to put a child lock on the one his food is kept in! I regularly come down in the mornings to find nearly all the cupboard doors open!

CMOTDibbler · 21/11/2023 12:15

7 squirrels and a sparrowhawk are lifetime highlights for one of my dcats.

Donkii · 21/11/2023 12:16

Ours chews elastic. We have to shut anything with elastic cord away in a cupboard.

When she was younger, we weren't so clued up about this, so when a long piece of elastic went missing we weren't sure where it had gone. Until ElastiCat started wandering around with half of it hanging out of her arse. She had eaten it. I was the one with the joyous task of gently pulling on the elastic until eventually it pinged out of her arse. It was long, impressive and very smelly. ElastiCat was fortunately unharmed, though a bit annoyed at the indignity.

When my cat was a kitten it jumped through the kitchen window carrying a jumbo battered sausage. It was still hot so I can only imagine the cat nabbed it straight out of the fish and chip newspaper.

My ginger boy, for the first 3 years, stole socks, and gardening gloves from every neighbours garden he could manage. My kitchen would have at least 2 new items each morning. Then he just sort of grew out of it. Now he carries around 3 toy mice, one at a time around the house, crying loudly as he does it to let us know how clever he is. My other cats just roll their eyes and call him a tit.

CMOTDibbler · 21/11/2023 14:03

@Wazzzzzuuuuuuup when we lived in a back to back terrace (the sort where you had a yard, then there was a narrow passage way, then the neighbours yard) our car of the time loved to walk along the whole road on one back wall then the other. This made nipping into peoples kitchens very easy for him as he could run along the dividing wall, jump into the kitchen and be back out in a second. He brought us all sorts of things - sausages, gammon steaks, and on one occasion a ham sandwich

Elisheva · 21/11/2023 14:10

My Dcat jumps in the (empty) bath, and then shouts until someone comes to see that he is in the bath and tell him how amazing he is.
He also climbs up the drain pipe and comes in the bedroom window. If the window is shut he head butts it until someone opens it, which is terrifying at 3am.

Loobyloo68 · 21/11/2023 14:22

My cat leaves dead mice etc at the door for me, nothing unusual there, but when I shovel them up and throw them in the wood she chases me and bites my ankles, obviously I'm ungrateful for the corpse😏

Pip1402 · 21/11/2023 14:25

I once woke up to a largish bird flying around my bedroom. God only knows how the little devil managed to get it through the two cat flaps and up the two flights of stairs necessary to achieve this.

caringcarer · 21/11/2023 14:36

I used to have a cat that jumped into the house through the window, took my son's hotdog sausage out of the finger roll and jumped back out the window. My son was in the toilet whilst it happened and he wouldn't believe the cat did it. He blamed his brother. I saw it happen otherwise I'd probably have thought it was his brother too.

mathanxiety · 21/11/2023 15:00

Gears up for a jump in a doorway, ears back, looking up, lots of bum wiggles, and then jumps straight up, turning over in midair and landing back where she started.

When she was a kitten she would jump at any hand that touched a door jamb, amd regularly attempted to jump up standard lamps and a tall fan I have.

She's a Siberian. I'm guessing there's a long heritage of living in trees somewhere deep inside that little walnut brain.

She also casually tips over waste paper baskets.

DM and I had a boy and girl when I was growing up. Girl cat was not the smartest (saying something!) but boy cat was quite intelligent. He used to bring us frogs from our own pond... Then we moved house and didn't have a pond, but he still liked fishing.

One day he bought us a koi carp. A really, really big one. It hung out of his mouth, flapping away. Still no idea how he got it, carried it, brought it through the cat flap... and no idea where it came from! Our neighbour had a fish pond so we gave it to him and it lived for years in there. They can be really expensive and DM was so embarrassed when he turned up with it!

They died in 2020/2021 and I miss them terribly. We're due to get a cat soon and I'm excited for and dreading the mischief!

AttillaThePlum · 21/11/2023 17:16

One of our old cats used to play Kerplunk - we discovered this when we left a half-finished game in the sitting room and came back in to find her pulling out the plastic straws with her teeth.

Alsonification · 21/11/2023 17:23

Mine uses a babies potty instead of a litter tray Grin

She has her bed in the utility room where I also had a potty for the children I was minding. She also had a litter tray in there. However she stopped using the litter tray & just started using the potty randomly one day. After a few months of this I got rid of the litter tray.

Obviously I got a new potty for the babies from day one.

BookWorm45 · 21/11/2023 17:37

Brought in a large piece of gammon, including crackling, through the cat flap. Left it on the floor for husband to fall over next morning...

Most impressive thng was how he got it over the fence and through the cat flap
We assume he dug it out of neighbours' bins.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 21/11/2023 17:42

Mine knocks on a door with one of her back legs when she wants one of her slaves to open it for her. I keep trying to video her doing it but she never does it when I’m watching. It really does sound like someone knocking on a door.
