Bizarre yet impressive things your cat has done

We have a maine coon and he is always 'into things'. He cannot be trusted around meats (runs away with said meat in his mouth) or small boppable objects (that he can also run away with in his mouth).

I left my washing up gloves to dry last night and I woke up this morning to find the 'end' (the sleeve bit) of one glove in the hallway. Went into the kitchen and glove was hanging up with the end of it missing. Just why?

He never fails to surprise me and he tickles me. What was going on in that furry brain of his?

What odd things has your cat done that tickles you?

Brought me a Christmas ham.

It was not mine

Oh, this has just reminded me that my childhood cat once ate about 1/3 of our Christmas cake - icing, marzipan and all. My Mum was mortified!

My cat used to suck her own nipples. With great enthusiasm. Blush

One of our cats had to kept indoors for a few days after surgery. He didn’t like using a litter tray and never weed in it. Eventually, we caught him squatting over the plug hole in the bath, weeing down it. We weren’t annoyed; we were impressed!

Many years ago, we had an overweight cat who would gobble up any food left over by the others. My mum would sometimes push a left over dish of cat biscuits under the sofa (where it fit snugly), until the slim, easily-intimidated cat who’d started it, came back to finish it.

After a while, our fat cat caught on and pulled any such dishes out from under the sofa. He’d eat the biscuits and then, carefully push the empty dish back under the sofa.

As a child we had a cat who would get onto the worktop, scoop eggs out of the bowl and watch them roll off the edge and smash on the floor. The dog would then eat them. Between the pair of them they could easily get through a dozen eggs in a few minutes.

When DS was little we rehomed a pair of Maine coon cross kittens. One of them in particular really bonded with DS. They were best of friends. As he got older she would walk him to school every day, even using the zebra crossing. When it was home time, she’d go and fetch him. It was really sweet.

Last Christmas had a few gifts under tree before the actual day and awoke one morning to a bee shape cat toy in the hallway, seriously could not work it out (was from my mum) until I went in the lounge to a pile of christmas wrapping paper. She had unwrapped it and rather approved of her early present (think it was the catnip!) 😂

She has learnt how to knock down one of the kick boards with her paw in the kitchen so quite likes going for a roam under there (usually retrieving a cat ball toy or similar!) I awake to it down every. single. morning.

My postie hating cat also used to enjoy the school run - she’d walk so far with us and then wait under a bush for me to come back home.

She did call a truce with one postie - she’d allow him into the close, escort him round and then see him off the premises.

She also terrorised the neighbour’s Westie by sitting on the patio giving him evils through the patio doors.

You won’t be surprised if I say she was a tortoiseshell.

I'm weak 🤣

Ours brought home a small wooden Viking.

None of the neighbours acknowledged it as theirs.

Weird

witchypaws · 21/11/2023 22:43

When I was little, we had a tiny kitten that had to be hand-reared by my DM, using my sister’s baby bottle. Cat insisted thereafter on always being cuddled on its back and rocked like a baby.

He also started sleeping on my DM’s head every night, with nose buried in her hair/fur as he thought she was his mother.

That was cute, but he was still doing it as a huge adult cat!

I have fond memories of my DM sitting watching TV with a 14 lb tabby on her head, absently brushing his tail out of her eyes so she could see the screen. She got funny looks whenever we had visitors, but it was everyday normal for us🤣

It was, he gave me a right scare. I thought I'd lost him. He thought it was hilarious.

That'd be right!

Firefly2009 · 21/11/2023 22:54

My DCat4 also liked to be held like a baby, with his tummy stroked. Also liked to be held above my head and lowered down for kisses, just like you do when playing with an older baby. He basically thought he WAS my baby. He used to sleep on my daughter's pillow, wrapped around her head. The other cat slept on her feet.

Twilight7777 · 21/11/2023 22:54

A cat I had a decade ago, (the only one I ever had) She used to behave like a dog, would come for cuddles and if I didn’t greet her quick enough when I came in she’d howl like a cat possessed and follow me until I stopped and let her sit on my knee and cuddled her!

bombastix · 21/11/2023 23:03

@Twilight7777 - you got a "cog" a cat that has the essence of a dog. I have a cog. He's great.

Caswallonthefox · 21/11/2023 23:06

Many moons ago, when I was a child, we had a cat that caught a house Martin in flight. Another cat used to go nuts for polo's and vicks before it became as potent as it is now.
My current cat knocks anything off any surface. I can't have plants or flowers. I can't leave a bottle without its top. She also will only drink out of a receptacle in my bedroom. It started off as a glass tumbler, then I used a jug, which was stuck down with blutac, now I have a large, square, see-through bowl, still blutacced down. She knocks a jug off the side,to let me know when she's low on water.

Tortoiseshell are the naughtiest of the lot. Further up thread my Tortoiseshell was the one that stole laundry from washing lines and bacon frying in the pan. Bless her 😍

I'd only just moved into my house, next door came round to tell me my cat had opened their front door gone upstairs and made herself comfy on one of their beds!

sixteenfurryfeet · 21/11/2023 23:22

We were wondering where our cat was one day, and heard a scream from next door. NDN had gone to her airing cupboard, reached up to get something off a high shelf and plunged her hand into a pile of warm fur...

QuestionableMouse · 21/11/2023 23:23

My older girl is wonderful, peaceful and quiet.

My not even a year old boy is a agent of chaos. His highlights to date include opening and emptying the bottom drawer in my chest of drawers. He also managed to shut himself inside and screamed until I found him and could let him out. I also can't run a bath without him screaming to be allowed in the bathroom so he can play with the bubbles.

As a dc my dcat brought a dead seagull in via the cat flap! The noise and mess weren't pleasant..

Snap...mine brought in a pigeon through the cat flap. It was massive, I can't work out how they carried it or got it through

We have a brother and sister pair of 6 month olds, the sister is very smart, she already plays fetch and will bring her toy and drop it at your hand and paw you nicely to ask you to throw it.
She has also learnt how to open the door to the stair by standing on one step up and then pressing her front paws against the door.
Her brother is not similarly minded at all but is very sweet and docile.

Circumferences · 21/11/2023 23:56

Boy cat not so long ago, deliberately bit into the vegetable oil bottle on the kitchen counter top causing it to leak out everywhere.
I caught him happily lapping up about half a pint of oil.

(Vet said he might get diarrhea but should be ok, and he was perfectly ok thankfully! Very silky fur afterwards.....)

Girl cat eats porridge. Totally raw porridge oats. And raw flour. We can't leave any bags of grain or flour out.
She thinks she's a mouse.
