Bizarre yet impressive things your cat has done

We have a maine coon and he is always 'into things'. He cannot be trusted around meats (runs away with said meat in his mouth) or small boppable objects (that he can also run away with in his mouth).

I left my washing up gloves to dry last night and I woke up this morning to find the 'end' (the sleeve bit) of one glove in the hallway. Went into the kitchen and glove was hanging up with the end of it missing. Just why?

He never fails to surprise me and he tickles me. What was going on in that furry brain of his?

What odd things has your cat done that tickles you?

@LeslieKnopescat it's a horizontal roll.
There is no point that I can figure out to the leaping in doorways. Just general joie de vivre.

Just as I was applying a slice of ham to my buttered bread for my lunchtime sandwich, my cat launched himself from across the room and in one swift move, at the speed of lightning, he swiped that slice of ham clean from my fingers and had already disappeared out the cat flap with it before I'd even had chance to register why my sandwich was still ham-less!

It was an almost Matrix-like move. In one moment I had ham, and a millisecond later it had just gone, with the cat flap swinging rapidly in the background.

The little bleeder then sat in front of the kitchen window looking at me with a satisfied smugness while eating my bloody ham. He was so proud of himself. Prick.

He also used to steal whole eggs from somewhere and bring them home. Totally intact. No idea how he managed to get his chops around an egg, and climb trees and clamber through bushes and over walls to deliver them to the back porch in perfect condition.

He was a sod. A needy clingy bugger who only had eyes for me and hated anyone else. But he's passed away now, about 6 yrs ago. I still miss that sod. He was gorgeous.

Hahaha brilliant.

Have you considered you didn’t feed him enough according to him?! 😉

Sorry for the loss of your boy. He sounds v special.

My cat once managed to bury himself in snow. I only found him because his black tail was sticking out of the snow 😆
His little sister stole a rasher of bacon from the frying pan whilst it was cooking. She managed to singe the whiskers off one side of her face 🙄. They did grow back though.

Omg. 😂 This reminds me of when we got ours. He arrived to us with whiskers only a few mm long. He had let his sibling chew them off… 🤔 They grew back sort of crimped.

@ThreeCowCats same with ours with the tap. He refuses to move at times from on or near the kitchen sink and is completely on the way. But he cares none.

Our oldest DCat who is 15 does little forward rolls over and over. She must have done it once when little and enjoyed the he feeling so would do it over and over again. All very precise, she posts one front leg underneath her tummy then tucks her head down and rolls over, she sometimes does in six or seven times in a row.

Many years ago a had a wonderful, characterful cat who was funny, intelligent, loved being played with and dressed up by the children.
One time I locked myself out of the house and, not a word of a lie, he opened the kitchen window for me so I could climb in.
Loved that cat 🥰

The clever little female 'told' me that I had significant ovarian cysts. She is a rescue that is terrified of her own shadow and NEVER sleeps with us. I felt unwell last year and she actually came into my bedroom and wouldn't leave my side all night and through the next day, regularly sniffing and pawing at a particular spot on my lower abdomen.

I couldn't admit to my doctor that my cat sent me! But a scan showed several large cysts, one of which was close to bursting and was big enough to threaten a twisted ovary.

Good kitty got extra treats.

The big (usually quite stupid) male manages to open and escape every type of cat door on the In-Only setting.

LittleBowSheep · 22/11/2023 13:47

We don't have a cat but our neighbour's cat visits us daily. As such we don't have a cat-flap so when she wants to leave she chooses which door or window she wants to use and just sits there waiting for someone to open it. The problem is she doesn't like the rain so if we open the door and it's raining she gives us a look of disgust, as if somehow it's our fault. She will then go to another door or window and wait for us to open that. Same thing, it's raining there too and she's not happy. It's almost as though she thinks that if she tried all of them eventually she will find one where it won't be raining outside.

My bloody cat has just accidentally submitted a word for me in an online Scrabble match.

Yesterday she jumped on my desk and typed a string of nonsense into a shared online document. Good thing ctrl-Z exists, really.

hoobanoobie · 22/11/2023 14:38

I came downstairs one day and could smell cat poo. Took me about twenty minutes to figure it out. My open handbag was on the floor. Filled with diarrhoea. Not a single drop on the floor. Everything inside was coated.
I still haven't forgiven him for that one.

haggisaggis · 22/11/2023 14:52

When I had my first cat I lived on a street where there were so many cats there were not that many birds. So dcat would bring me earthworms instead! One night I'd been busy doing something and when I looked up there were 6 earthworms all crawling down the hall.

cloudglazer · 22/11/2023 15:01

One of mine:

Appears on the upstairs window sill after scaling the roof, miaowing until she is let in
Collects her lost collars and returns them to us (and her brother's);
Pulls hair out of the plug in the bath.

Legend of a cat.

Has also been known to bring the post from the letterbox...

A guitar playing cat. Now I have heard it all!!

He's not very good at it. The only tune we get is a sort of backwards and forwards audience participation thing.

Cat: pling, pling
Me: Mittens, leave it!
Cat: pling
Me: Oi, if that falls off the wall I'm turning you into a pair of slippers.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 22/11/2023 15:30

Wanda likes to chew: the wooden stick part of her cat toys, woolly jumpers, thick socks, my DDs soft toys which are apparently much better than the dozen or so we gave to her...

She also steals anything edible that's not locked up but that's not really bizarre, just greedy!

She has learned that the oven timer means food and comes running...

She also is blissfully unaware when DD puts things on her if she's currently in pursuit of food as per attached pic...

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 22/11/2023 15:31

Second attempt at pic

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 22/11/2023 15:31

I give up!

In pic she is wearing a rubber ring and looking into fridge

FloweryPumpkin1 · 22/11/2023 15:33

Our cat has a thing about bread and once stole an enormous floured bap from next door's barbecue. He managed to get it over the fence and through the cat flap- both halves- which impressed me.

Our old cat could knock at the door. If he wanted feeding and we weren't doing it fast enough, he'd exit the cat flap, come round to the front and operate the door knocker to get our attention.

My cat used to suck her own nipples. With great enthusiasm. Blush

One of mine does that
The noise is disturbing
Much slurping 😆

QOD · 22/11/2023 16:05

My cat had a magnetic cat flap for a while and came in all the time with random nails and safety pins stuck to his collar. Once he came in with a HUGE table spoon 😂

he’s 15 now and going a tad blind but still brings me mice and rats allllll the time

@Elisheva have you considered a small knighting ceremony for him re bath-gate? A no fuss affair of course but it’s what he deserves.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but there is an Order of the Bath en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_Bath Clearly the cat of @Elisheva is taking the knighthood literally

He’s literally just done it. Maybe he’s on Mumsnet 🤔

We have a posh bread bin with a bun drawer. One morning I found the bagels soaking up liquid inside the bun drawer. Our Alfie had managed to piss in the bun drawer without spilling any outside of the bread bin - not a drop! He's not done it since but we puzzled over how he did it for awhile afterwards. He has also dragged back a whole medium sized pepperoni pizza having navigated several fences and a gate but have no idea where he got it from.

Lilibert456 · 22/11/2023 17:30

My Siamese was a cat burglar. He stole Fat Ginger's donut bed. He pulled it through an open window and dragged it up the Lane and dumped it in the kitchen. We received random pieces of washing complete with pegs. One hot summer day he brought home a freshly cooked partially eaten steak. Can only assume someone left their plate unattended for a minute at a BBQ. He once came home with a small grass snake that he pinned to the floor with one paw while he had a drink and then ran off with it back into the garden. Loved him to bits and miss him everyday even though he has been gone for seven years now.
