Cat missing for 12 days

I am so upset. Our beautiful DGirlcat has been missing for 12 long days.

She likes an adventure but the longest she has been gone is 36 hours. She is so friendly and sweet.

She is neutered and chipped.

I've posted flyers in mailboxes and on lamp posts, at local parks, she is on social media, I've contacted local vets, I've asked everyone I've seen. There were two potential sightings a week ago but nothing since. I'm going to post flyers further afield this weekend.

I go out later in the evening every evening to walk with Dreamies and call for her but she has never responded. I call for her in the morning when its quiet.

I cannot bear the thought that she is stuck or hurt or worse. I just dont know what to do anymore.

Oh dear, your doing all the right things. Sometimes they just come back when you’ve given up hope like nothings happened.

@Fluffycloudland77 - I really hope so!

It will be 6 weeks this Tuesday since she has been missing and I'm a mess. I've paid Animal Search UK and I have gone out to each sighting but nothing.

I dont understand it. She was so bonded to me that she would pine if I was away overnight.

Is there any chance I'll see her again?

I am so sorry to hear about your lovely cat missing. I can't offer any useful advice as you do seem to have done everything you can. It must be so worrying for you :( Some cats do turn up after a long period away so maybe don't give up hope. I am sending hugs to you xx

Cailleach1 · 31/07/2022 22:35

Op, I know exactly how it is. You have this little critter in your care, and you just hope they are somewhere where they are ok.

My girl cat went missing a few years ago. We did what you did insofar as putting posters everywhere; called to all houses on a number of surrounding roads; vets; animal rescues.

Every time we saw a cat on walks, we held our breath(s) in the hope it was her. As time passed, we had become resigned to the fact we would never see her again, and we would never know what happened to her. We just hoped she was somewhere she was being treated well.

Around 11 weeks later, a cat came in the cat flap. I thought it was her brother (who was with us all the while), but the tail was fluffy and long haired. It was our long lost girl cat, and a flipping miracle is all I can say. She was as skinny as anything, but seemed to be unharmed. We will never know where she was or what happened to her.

It isn't really about bonding. She could have taken a walk and got stuck somewhere. Wishing you all the best and hope she returns soon.

Thank you both so much. I really hope she turns up x

I'm so sorry. Sounds like you are doing everything you can. It's just one story but it might make you feel better: my friend's cat was missing for months when they suddenly got a call from a vet a good distance away. The cat had been taken in by someone and after a time they decided to check if the car was chipped.

Oh @RubyRoss - how wonderful!

My boy vanished on the 23rd July, the day we left for holiday, and he hasn't been seen since. Like your girl, the longest he has been gone for before was 72hrs and that was when I was away, my husband and daughter were still here. He just strolled back home. It's now 10 days and I am beginning to lose hope, I wish we'd never gone away to be honest. I've done everything you have, I've made myself ill with the stress, worry and anxiousness I feel. I love him so much x

GonzoGonzo · 06/08/2022 14:41

I feel your pain NN, i hope he returns soon. My cat is also missing & its day 10 for us. I was being positive but not having the best day today after a few false sighting. Life just isn't very fair sometimes.

NNSingers · 07/08/2022 10:20

@GonzoGonzo I am having a very bad day today. It's no two weeks since my fur baby went missing and I am broken. I don't know what else I can do to try and find him. I can't eat or sleep, it's awful and I'm just so desperate to cuddle him. Really hope we both get our fur baby's back xxxx

CheshireCat1 · 07/08/2022 10:30

I totally understand how you feel, our cat went missing an we went out for hours every day looking for him. We walked that much that I dislocated a joint in my foot and ended up with surgery on crutches for 8 weeks.
We got him back after 3 months and now it’s like he’s never been away and tends to stay close to home.
When out with the Dreamies don’t shout for her when walking away from your house, only call for her when walking towards it.
Inform the chip company that he’s missing and also all the local vets and rescue centres.
A tip for everyone else, please don’t feed other peoples cats, if you see a cat that looks hungry or lost contact a local centre or charity and they will come out and scan them.
Good luck and keep up hope.

GonzoGonzo · 07/08/2022 14:05

Wow 3 months, Did you ever find out where he Went? Or just on a hunting holiday?

We have been out & about like yourself, following up every possible sighting but no luck yet. It will be 2 weeks soon and its holiday season so she might be locked in somewhere. Hopefully she will survive & return but not feeling positive. This heatwave doesn't help.

user1471538283 · 08/08/2022 18:21

She still isnt back. I've gone to each potential sighting and it's not her (I think they've been too far away). I look for her all the time.

I'm just devastated.

You haven’t found a body either which is reassuring.

MissMaple82 · 08/08/2022 20:00

Have you checked under hedges amd bushes? My cat was lost for 2 weeks and was found under a Bush very nearby actually, he'd been hit by a car and I can only guess disoriented. Sadly had to be put down, but I tell everybody to check under bushes now

user1471538283 · 10/08/2022 10:13

@Fluffycloudland77 - Yes hopefully that means that I will see her again.

@MissMaple82 - I've checked high and low, in neighbors gardens, Animal Search UK did a full sweep including our local park with infra red equipment, they went into garages and sheds.

It is like she has disappeared.

@user1471538283 any sign of your darling girl cat?

No sign of our Georgie :( xx

EmmaC78 · 17/08/2022 16:36

I just came to give some hope. My house cat escaped nearly 2 weeks ago and I have been frantic. I'd searched the local area, put on FB, all the usual things and was really beginning to think I'd never see her again. Then the neighbour phoned me this morning to say she had appeared in her garden and was perfectly fine. I know how desperate you feel but she may still return.

user1471538283 · 17/08/2022 22:30

@NNSingers - no sign at all of her. I'm so upset. I keep thinking I can hear her little squeak but it's never her (or any other cat). I'm so sorry about Georgie.

@EmmaC78 - that is wonderful news!

NNSingers · 17/08/2022 22:34

@user1471538283 I'm the same, I keep thinking I can hear him coming through the cat flap but it's not. It's his second birthday tomorrow and I just feel so sad that he's not with us,

What's happened to our babies? I'm sorry you're going through this too xx

NNSingers · 20/08/2022 22:20

I don't think he's coming back, I feel so bereft which I know is silly, but I adored my Georgie. It's like he vanished and I can't help thinking how i couldn't protect him and keep him safe. I think about him all the time and just feel so sad :( xx

Cailleach1 · 21/08/2022 08:59

I've posted about how our girl cat came back after c. 11 weeks. I have to balance that by also saying we have been on the other end of a lost cat.

When we lived in the countryside (and during a freezing, snowy winter), a tabby arrived at our door. He barged came inside. We tried to get him to go back outside, but he wouldn't set a paw out. When he eventually did, we put a paper collar with our number on it. No takers, and he arrived back every day. At the vets, we discovered he was not chipped, but had been neutered. We ended up moving country with him. We had no choice as we couldn't leave him homeless. We think maybe an elderly person had gone into a home or something, and he was overlooked. We had only around 4 years with him as he developed cancer and we had to put him to sleep. He was well loved, and we were with him to the very end.

Another cat which ended up with us short term. Her family had gone on holiday and their neighbours were feeding her. She followed my husband home. She was about a month with us, until we saw a notice about her in a shop.

Two dogs arrived at our door (separately and at different times). I put the notices up on telegraph poles, not the owners. One was re-united with the owner. The other ended up being adopted via a rescue. He was with us for months, and I'm glad he found a good home.

Just to illustrate that although bad things can happen, it is not inevitable.

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 21/08/2022 09:06

I'm sorry your puss has gone missing. I hope you are re-united soon. x

mountainsunsets · 21/08/2022 09:22

A cat in our area was recently reunited with its' owners after eighteen months!

It had roamed quite a way and was living as a barn cat. The barn owners realised it wasn't feral got it to the vets to be scanned and it was missing from well over 20 miles from home.

Don't give up 😊
