Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.

Out for a walk yesterday and came across a cat in very poor condition. Skinny and dirty. I spoke to a neighbour who said he is fed twice a day. And has always looked scruffy.

Posted on my local cat's Facebook page, and got inundated with people telling me to basically cat nap him.

A rescue fit in touch with me who are willing to help. Went back for another look, there is a note on the bib saying that he's fed and watered and although the looks uncared for he isn't and is an actor. The person who was feeding him has died and the house sold. But he's still being cared for.
I feel that I should leave it. Its not ideal, but the note on the bin suggests other people are concerned and they are aware of it.
But now the rescue want to scan him and possibly take to a vet. Help what do I do now!!

Ah, I thought you were local(ish) to me in Kent, what with the Canterbury connections.

BlanketsBanned · 04/05/2022 10:05

He is on their fb page, they have called him Len. What a poppet.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2022 10:30

My sister thinks he should be called Vincent!

Poor old boy. Fingers crossed he pulls through but at least he's got food, shelter and some TLC. Good work Toddler!
Can I stick up for CP here? Obviously, the staff shouldn't be rude but I volunteer at a CP adoption centre and the crap the staff have to deal with is ridiculous. There is a huge waiting list of cats waiting to come in. They do have lists in order of priority but until other cats have been homed, there is no space! People just assume you can drop your cat off if you no longer want them. No.
Currently, there are two cats where the microchips are registered to owners but they aren't responding. They have even knocked on the door of one (neighbours say person is still there). The other, they have had contact from the owner who clearly doesn't want the cat but won't sign them over so cat has to be held as if a stray which delays the rehoming process. The public really don't make it easy and that's without all the keyboard warriors!
Rant over. More fosterers would help rescues have more capacity to take cats in. Actually, more responsible humans would help.

I honestly didn’t realise all that. Apologies and thank you so much for volunteering.

Fingers and everything else crossed for Len, and well done OP for rescuing him. Just caught up on the FB page and seen him snuggling up with a toy, and bless his heart, he is gorgeous and looks content. I will be following his story now, this is quite local to me. The cat rescue looks awesome too.

Want2beme · 04/05/2022 21:38

Had a look at Len on Facebook. He looks much more content now, even though he's very poorly. Mansfield cat rescue seems amazing. I'll make a donation towards Len's care, bless him.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2022 22:10

He looks much happier and has the most gorgeous green eyes. I'm going to set up a standing order to them. Won't be much but it might help.

The note said ‘processed’ food (presumably cat food?) makes him ill. I wonder if the person who thought that, had been feeding him e,g tins of tuna instead, which of course contain salt. I think an excess of salt can cause the stomach to become distended.
Thank goodness he’s been rescued, in any event!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 05/05/2022 06:07

Love the pic of him all snuggled up with his new toy. He looks so content and such a difference from that first photo. I'm also going to send a donation towards his vets bills.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2022 09:15

I think it was normal cat food from what was dried out in his bowl.

Though from how hungry he was I don't know when he'd last been fed.

@Toddlerteaplease well done and thank you for helping this poor old boy, I’ve seen him on their FB page - oh my….those stunning emerald eyes ❤️

Also made a donation for him (or as they see fit to use obvs)

Toddlerteaplease · 05/05/2022 20:08

He's going to the vets Tomorrow. Paws crossed for him but not particularly optimistic that he's not got something nasty going on in his tummy.

OP posts:
GingerFigs · 05/05/2022 20:11

Keep us updated, been following and crossing fingers that he's ok.

Snooks1971 · 05/05/2022 20:29

Whatever the outcome tomorrow - and praying whatever is wrong that it’s treatable, you’ve saved him and he’s experiencing love, warmth, care and a full tummy right now. He’s beautiful ❤️

MissMaple82 · 05/05/2022 20:30

Fuck me the poor thing looks in a shocking state. He's clearly straying, he probably ly is getting fed but he will 100% need medical treatment. Let the rescue deal with him

Cleanmean · 05/05/2022 20:54

Thank you for helping him. I've donated to the rescue. Really hoping he pulls through and find his forever home soon.

Want2beme · 05/05/2022 21:16

Yesterday I could see the rescue's bank details, but I can't see them today😕. I hope he's doing well.

Snooks1971 · 05/05/2022 21:32

@Want2beme this a screenshot, couldn’t do a link to the page sorry. The rescue’s bank details are accompanying this photo of Len, not the most recent one

They also have a PayPal link on that page. I used that to donate. Took a bit of searching on PayPal to find them but they are there.
V anxious for news of how the vets go today for him.
