Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.

Out for a walk yesterday and came across a cat in very poor condition. Skinny and dirty. I spoke to a neighbour who said he is fed twice a day. And has always looked scruffy.

Posted on my local cat's Facebook page, and got inundated with people telling me to basically cat nap him.

A rescue fit in touch with me who are willing to help. Went back for another look, there is a note on the bib saying that he's fed and watered and although the looks uncared for he isn't and is an actor. The person who was feeding him has died and the house sold. But he's still being cared for.
I feel that I should leave it. Its not ideal, but the note on the bin suggests other people are concerned and they are aware of it.
But now the rescue want to scan him and possibly take to a vet. Help what do I do now!!

So glad he's being cared for now, Toddler. We all need to look out for them. Bless you and his foster home. Really hope he'll pull through and enjoy a lovely retirement😺

CarrieCookie · 02/05/2022 14:52

Oh god I hope he’s ok and just needs a bit of tlc Sad

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 02/05/2022 14:53

Currently at a foster placement and having the run of the conservatory. Having lots of fuss and enjoying it apparently.

Oh bless you for following this up and taking care of him.

Got a bit of grit in my eye now...

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2022 15:47

Poor thing was ravenous, and more than him being a 'fine actor' as stated on the note on the bin.

I want to leave a note to say that he's gone to a vet. But the rescue lay said don't bother as he's so obviously neglected.

No, don't, as they may try to reclaim him.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2022 17:05

That's exactly what the rescue lady said. He seems a lovely friendly boy.

She scanned him and he's not chipped.

That’s a lovely thing you did Toddler, hopefully things will improve for the stray cat.
I did similar a few years back - an old cat along my road was not being looked after (the elderly owner was put in a carehome and the adult son who lived at home wouldn’t let the cat in the house, didn’t feed it properly etc). Our local CPL took the cat in themselves and the cat had a lovely 18 months of pampering, warm home and a full belly before she died.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2022 18:18

Apparently he's a lovely boy and very friendly. Had got terrible teeth though.

Hope he can be put on the path to purrfection. He looks a lovely soul.
What utter pigs to write such a note...

Toddlerteaplease · 02/05/2022 18:30

I didn't seem him standing last time. If I had, I'd have taken him immediately. His tummy is huge. But he's a bag of bones.

Poor lad. Imagine how relieved he feels now.

I'm so angry with the people allegedly feeding him. It's so obvious that he needs help. 😡😡

I really don't think this is uncommon, sadly.

AWOL66 · 02/05/2022 23:30

I know so many people make me sick. They've prevented others helping him for no reason! However you've literally been a hero in going out of your way to rescue him when others may have shyed away reading the note.💖He looks just like my cat who is a rescue and was also homeless 💔Don't tell the writers of the note - he needs to be free of them They're a hindrance not a help. He needs people who truly love and care for him and there's a lot of true cat lovers out there who will! I hope he pulls through it all😻

FairyLightPups · 02/05/2022 23:33

Well done for doing the right thing OP. Hopefully all goes well at the vets tomorrow!

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 04:00

The rescue lady has sent me a picture of him curled up asleep at the foster carers. He looks very cosy and chilled out. Apparently all he's done since he got there! Probably feels warm and safe. His 'den' was very exposed.

He was literally sat awaiting a saviour.
Glad he found you op.
And I truly hope he is healthy enough for a new life.

catwomando · 03/05/2022 08:19

This is you OP. Well done. Poor little cat. I hope he's happy and snuggly for the rest of his days

Not sure how much to intervene with this cat.
nettie434 · 03/05/2022 09:33

You have clearly done the right thing Toddlerteaplease. It's good news that he has settled at the foster carer's. I hope he finds a new home soon. As for his teeth, assuming he can get them checked and treated, there are at least two Lords of the Litter Tray who are dentally challenged but seem to do just fine.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/05/2022 10:51

It's more his tummy that will be the problem. He looks like he's eaten a beach ball. Something bad is going on.

Would an extremely high worm burden cause the tummy to be so distended?

Imherenowandthen · 03/05/2022 11:06

Aww bless him. Please keep us updated. I really hope he’ll be ok. Hopefully it’s just worms and they can sort it out, but if not at least he‘ll have a few days of warmth and food and love. 🤞
